This is quite interesting, Elaine. I have never cooked the beans myself, but there is a brand of canned pintos at my health food store----Eden Organic---and they are cooked with water and Kombu seaweed, and I like them very much. I tried another brand once, without the seaweed, and I found them rather blah. I'm so glad you explained about these uses for seaweeds. Perhaps it will give me courage to try some of these new-to-me things!
