I developed an intolerance to soy, especially to tofu, and also to tempeh, soy milk, etc. as well. The most obvious symptom was a chronically stuffed up nose that bothered me for years until a doctor rather easily found that the cause was soy. As soon as I stopped using soy products, the problem went away.

I think soy tends to be a problem for many people. Nut milks and rice milk are better tasting, in my opinion, than soy milk and they are easy to make. For rice milk, just toss a glob of cooked brown rice into the blender with some hot water and afterwards strain the liquid off through cheesecloth.
