I don't think it's the similarities that do us in. B's can safely consume dairy because of its similarities to our own antigen. All blood types can safely recieve type O blood because we all have the O antigen on our cells. AB's can recieve blood from any type because they have all the antigens on their cells. All these examples of compatiblilty are based on similarity. It's when you take in things that your body reads as different that you start running into trouble: O's receiving transfusions of A or B blood, O's and A's chugging cow's milk, or the Hollywood scenario of a bunch of (probably) O "savages" (= indigenous people) chowing down on a (quite possibly) A missionary. BTW, pigs are very A-like.
Historical trivia: When the Vikings landed on "Vinland" (believed to = Newfoundland), they gave the (probably O) natives milk to drink. A few hours later, the same natives were back and attacking. The milk had had time to hit their systems, and they were most likely looking to drive off the invasion of "poisoners"!
