Erections and Peanuts (One for the A's).

You know the research papers are getting boring when I post an article on erections!

This is true, however, via mechanisms which I will explain. I have mentioned before on a number of ocassions that I eat peanuts before bed time to stimulate the release of growth hormone. Peanuts also remove plaque from teeth, but this has nothing to do with the subject title.

Peanuts are very high in amino acid called arginine. Arginine stimulates the release of nitric oxide in the penis. Nitric oxide is responsible for the vaso dilation that occurs when one gets an erection. Fifteen male impotence patients received a placebo for two weeks. No improvement occurred. These same subjects were then (unbenknownst to them) switched to 2,800 mg of arginine per day for a further two weeks. Six men (40%) reported improvement in their erections and improved penetration ability. (Zorgniotti, A., et al. Effect of large doses of the nitric oxide precursor, L-arginine, on erectile dysfunction. Int J Impotence Res. 6:33-36, 1994.)

For the ladies, Arginine also facilitates orgasms also!(Block, W. Sexual enhancement available to women too. Viagra duality: better to NO? Life Enhancement. July 1998:15-18.)

Around 100g of peanuts will cover the doses stated in the journals. Obviously if you are not an A, almonds will do the same trick!!

I just know I'll get some "interesting" E-mails after this post!!

Regards, Stephen.
