In Response To: Birth Control Pills..... (Lauren A+)
I have read contraceptive pills can cause an imbalance in the flora of your gut,and this can of course lead to all types of health problems. The contraceptive pill leads to an overgrowth of candida albicans in a lot of females, this is the microbe which is responsible for thrush,it occurs naturally in the gut and is needed to a degree but it is very opportunistic and will run riot in your gut whenever it can. OF course this can lead to a far wider range of health probs than just thrush but lets go back to the pill.
The pill causes you to excrete magnesium and zinc,it depletes the body's supply of folic acid and this can lead to breast cancer. The pill can cause depression because it interferes with the seratonin manufacturing actions of Vit B6 (which is why B6 is so great for women who get nasty PMS on the pill)
From personal experience, I have tried many diff types and have given up the pill altogether as I like to remain human throughout my whole cycle and not turn into a raving maniac at certain times of the month. I am an 'A' so I don't know about other blood types but I think this is probably why Steve said to avoid it!
