Bob: I believe what Dr. D. has said is that if there is a *minor* avoid that is far down in a list of ingredients, it shouldn't kill ya. But if you see wheat starch or corn syrup ANYWHERE on there, I wouldn't buy it. I can't tell you how many times I've had to put something that would otherwise be highly beneficial (like pumpkin seeds--boy, they are coming up a lot lately, must be the season) back on the shelf because the last ingredient on the package is wheat starch or corn starch. If I ate that, I'd feel I was eating an avoid and that consuming that particular thing was out of compliance. On the other hand, if I drank a China Cola with vanilla way down on the list, I wouldn't sweat it. Get it? But level of compliance and decisions thereabout are a very individual thing and if you feel something's okay, go for it. One thing I know Dr. D. said in the book is that ER4YT is not meant to bring about rigidity, because that is the opposite of joy--which I thought was a very important concept to the sustainability of the ER4YT diet! ...........but don't eat the wheat or corn, okay? Okay.
