One reason you,,, nor I have not heard of this, is because it is simply false! If a person eats candy, deserts, soda,, even too much honey or maple syrup etc,,,,, and then eats fruit on top of all that, then they are eating too much sugar anyway.
Fruit, especially HB fruit is very nutritious. It's full of fiber, enzymes, water, and is an important part of the A diet. I can see temporary avoidance until one heals from excess sugar, and then reintroducing it later.
