O negative friend with bad rheumatoid arthritis

I lady I know (75) has bad rheumatoid arthritis. I have tried to suggest changing her diet, but she looks at me like this is a subversive act. "Just do what the doctor says". I think that is her philosphy.
I told her about milk, she switched to lactaid. I don't think that addresses the problem, does it?
Any ideas?
