Becky,
From what I understand, Cortiguard and L-glutamine have opposite effects...Cortiguard lowers your cortisol levels where L-glutamine raises them. Yoga also lowers your cortisol levels, probably also meditation. I've been working on keeping my cortisol levels lower because I was experiencing too much edginess, hyper-sensitivity to EVerything, raw nervous energy, then I would crash and be exhausted, feeling depressed. Have you been experiencing any of that? I'm guessing I was lowering my cortisol levels the hard way. I used to keep the edgy feelings away with sweets, lots of carbs. Since I quit that behavior (blood sugar problems), I've been learning to use yoga and meditation, and I've used Cortiguard. What I'm finding is that my energy is becoming much more balanced and I'm learning how to see the signs of imbalance a little earlier on, so I don't have to fall completely off the track anymore (most of the time).
I don't know if any of that helps with the summer heat/depression/fatigue dilemma. I have noticed that since my energy is more on an even keel now, I can focus better on generating MUCH more positive energy through meditation, and I'm working on the yoga. That seems to be what works for me, but I tend to live more in my head. Hard, physical exercise causes me to crash. I think it raises my cortisol levels too high.
If someone else can help explain the cortisol connection, please do. I think I've figured out the basics of how it works, but I'd love to hear it from someone who really grasps it.
