type A and vitamins

Well anyway, I have been taking centrum vitamins. I usually break them in half and take half in the morning and (occasionally), the other half with dinner.
I take half because I have heard many conflicting reports about the use of supplements. I figured that half either way is better than none or too much.
So, it seems that Peter, (you), are/is not too fond of supplements anyway. But my concern is that vitamin A and Beta Carotene is on the (avoid) list for the A type diet.
Like the rest of you, I've been trying to find the right diet for me for years. I am not overweight at all. I've always felt like I had allergies or that something just wasn't exactly right and probably like the rest of you blamed my diet since I usually felt better if I DIDN'T eat at all. The problem is that even elimination diets were of no avail to me since I am not "obviously" allergic to any one food. My case is that I usually try to keep my weight up.
I however would have no remorse or sadness about giving up any food/s that are causing me a problem. This stated; Centrum is made up of 50, (arbitrary figure), different vitamins and minerals. What is the consensus from all the different types. Are (void) vitamins and minerals, (although they may actually be a small # of the entire spectrum), enough deterant to stop taking vitamins such as "One A Days" and "Centrum", etc....altogether?
