Carbs, as I found out when I got into the Weight Loss Clinic, are what your body uses to manufacture serotonin. Serotonin is a major factor in depression. e.g.: enough serotonin=not depressed. Not enough serotonin=depressed. Which is why the weight loss Dr. prescribed evil Effexor (a serotinergenic) for me. Of course, other things such as blood sugar, insulin (the master hormone that monitors fat metabolism, serotonin levels, etc etc) and stress factor into serotonin depletion. So, your body needed serotonin, and you ate carbs.

As for craving things that aren't good for you: many times a person will crave allergens. If you're allergic to wheat, you may just crave wheat. Can people be allergic to sugar? And look at chocolate! Lots of people are allergic to that stuff, and they crave it. Think about all the little kids being diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, who are actually allergic to those "healthy school lunches" which sets up cravings as well as contributing to their bad behaviors.

I used to HAVE to have a bowl of popcorn every night. Then I started eating right and VOILA! haven't had popcorn for an age!
