What's the best way for As to take herbs?

Distilled liquor is an "avoid." So does this apply to herbal tinctures, as well? What about herbs in capsules or as tea? Herbs like astragalus or echinacea, etc. Which is best for us As? Can anyone help me with this?
PS. I've been reading the board for about a month. Great group of people! This is my first time on any board.
