Type A Cold/Cough help needed!

I had such great response to my friend's need that I thought I'd probe the great ether for help for myself. I've come down with cold that won't go away, and now I've got a cough. The cough is dry for now, but starting to hurt, and could get bad before long.
Any thoughts as to what I could treat this with? thanks!
