Hi. This steamy bathroom suggestion is the basic croup thing - seems like it's both diagnostic and remedial (i.e., if it works, it's croup). But you may need to go in again, or may need to bed down in there, on the floor, for a couple hours. But I'm concerned; you said "a couple weeks" for your son. That sounds like it's possible you're dealing with whooping cough, maybe, or perhaps only with a mean flu we've had around here that's almost as intense. Whooping cough is dangerous for very little ones, so you might do best to call a practioner you trust, for advice. (It's the next day, now, so this may be irrelevant, as croup tends to be worst in the middle of the night, for some parent-maddening reason. If it is croup, there's a standard trio of homeopathic remedies that are used, each following the other if the previous one hasn't worked: Aconite, Spongia tosta, then Hepar sulph.) Can you tell my type A daughter used to tend toward typically A phlegmy, croupy conditions? good luck, sc (Herbally, I always begin echinacea with her as soon as she shows signs of congestion; I haven't checked these against the list, but some soothers are catnip, lemon balm, fennel.)
