My type O hyperthyroid brother's in intensive care - PLEASE HELP!

He has Graves disease. I'd posted a while back about being worried about him when I saw him at Christmas. When I didn't get any responses, I submitted an "ask Dr. D" question, but I haven't seen any response there either.

My instinct was right - he's been in ICU for 2 days now while MD's pump him full of sedation and try to get his metabolism under control. His "feeling lousey" the night he went in was probably a stroke. Dave's only 29. He went from a strapping 200 lbs. to about 135 within a year. He worked with hazardous medical waste for 5 years. He was the last of my siblings to "get out" of our disfunctional household and had a rough childhood. He was so proud when his son was born 4 years ago, and has matured with the resposibility of parenthood. His son adores him and I'd hate to see them lose each other.

My previous web search turned up little in alternative therapies besides the usual sedative herbs and Bugleweed. I'd hate to see them give him radioactive iodine. I'm going to search again but in the mean time, can anyone point me in the right direction? The type O diet emphasises hypothyroid - what's a hyperthyroid O to do? HELP!
