Jan, have you tried doing some yoga postures? There is no immediate effect in using them, but over time, changes do happen. For starters, I would want to work with the shoulder stand, and anything else that you encounter that will work your throat area. I did know someone who was taking thyroid medication for a long time but didn't need to continue after some years of yoga practices.
