The N.E. Center for Personalized Medicine can trace its origins to the work of Dr. Peter D'Adamo's father, Dr. James D'Adamo. Beginning in a small office in Brooklyn New York in the mid 1950's, Dr. James D'Adamo attempted to discern why some types of diets worked well in some patients, but not in others. Out of curiosity, he began to blood type his patients, reasoning that since blood carried oxygen and nutrients to the cell, perhaps some variation in the structure of blood type was influencing the ability of his patients to absorb nutrients differently.

Through countless numbers of tests he concluded that type A individuals absorbed a vegetable protein based diet better than type O patients, who seemed to do better on higher amounts of animal protein. Types AB and B were considered intermediates whose diets he described as 'best of both kingdoms.'

Although James D'Adamo's descriptions were clinically valid, they still needed a firm scientific explanation. This was provided by Peter D'Adamo, who not only researched the link between blood groups and disease, but also described the links between blood group and many of the immunologic aspects of foods. He also detailed the connection between the blood group secretor genetics and diet.

Beginning in the early 1980's Peter D'Adamo tested many individual foods for blood type reactivity, and developed several blood type specific therapeutic interventions. Since the 1990's Dr. Peter D'Adamo has trained and certified over 200 practitioners in his method of blood type based clinical management. Several of his students have gone on to illustrious careers in naturopathic medical research.

In 1997 Dr. Peter D'Adamo wrote the groundbreaking book Eat Right 4 Your Type, a NY Times and worldwide bestseller that has helped millions of readers attain a healthier more vibrant life.

In July 2005 The N.E. Center for Personalized Medicine moved to a specially-designed new facility in Wilton Connecticut.

The Center can be seen as the culmination of the work of two lifetimes, bridging the empirical, observational knowledge that can only come through clinical expertise with the best of today's science and technology.
