Detoxification

"First, cleanse the bowels."Hippocrates

We are living in an age of "toxic overload,"  the herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, rancid oils, artificial colors and flavors, food additives, and preservatives we use or ingest every day eventually interfere with the normal functioning of our bodies. There is danger lurking in paints, household cleaning products, cosmetics, prescription and over-the-counter medications—even clothes made from synthetic products.

The refined and processed foods in our diet pose additional threats, they say, along with our high intake of fat, caffeine, and alcohol.

The process by which the body rids itself of harmful substances taken in from the environment or produced internally is called detoxification. Naturopathic medicine often  recommends periodic fasting and the use of various dietary supplements and botanical preparations to assist the body's detoxification.

Colon Irrigation

These treatments aim to cleanse the bowel of purportedly toxic fecal matter, which is thought to build up and leak poisons into the bloodstream. During the treatments, a special colon irrigation machine gently circulates  warm, purified water into the lower bowel to loosen and remove the built-up fecal matter. Each session takes between 30 and 50 minutes.

Infra-Red Sauna

Infrared heat allows your body to produce a great deal more perspiration through your pores.  The skin is the largest eliminative organ in the body and the elimination through sweating is more passive and requires less expenditure of energy than elimination via the kidneys and bowels.

Increased blood circulation stimulates the sweat glands, releasing built-up toxins and wastes. Daily sweating can help detoxify your body as it rids itself of an accumulation of highly toxic heavy metals (lead, mercury, nickel, and cadmium) as well as alcohol, nicotine, sulfuric acid, and other organic and inorganic compounds.

The infrared sauna's deep heat raises your inner body temperature, inducing an artificial fever (mild hyperthermia). Fever is the body's natural mechanism to strengthen and accelerate the immune response, as seen in the case of infection. This enhanced immune system, combined with improved elimination of toxins and wastes via intense sweating, increases your overall health and resistance to disease.
