Dear Dr. D,

I want to thank you for giving me my life back. I first started the diet about two years ago when I was suffering from the effects of multiple medication including oral, nasal, ophthalmic steroids. I was in the middle of a rigorous academic program and could not function for more than 2-3 hours a day. I ended up leaving the program due to my faculty mentors moving on to different institutions.

I have not posted as much because I had to deal with my next steps as I awaited admissions information in my Ph.D. transfer process. I recently gave my commitment to a program after being offered acceptance.

Due to the GTD improving my health drastically, I am able to continue on my journey and participate in an even more rigorous academic program as a fellow in a highly competitive scholarship program.

I literally owe you my health, life, academic career (and future career path), and well-being!

Thank you thank you thank you! I still have a lot to work on but this wonderful forum keeps me motivated. Even if I am about 80% compliant on a daily basis, my health has improved so much I am much better than when I first started the GTD!

(((((((((((((((((((((( Hugs )))))))))))))))))))))))) and BLESSINGS!

I would like to briefly describe my personal experience with the Blood Type Diet, and to thank Dr.D'Adamo one more time.

"Thank you so much, Dr.D'Adamo for your incredible research and studies. My deepest gratitude to you. I am learning so many things from your books, articles and online material, and understanding always better the connections between my health issues, the blood type and concepts that I was already familiar with".

When I discovered the blood type diet thanks to one of the Doctor's books, entitled, "Allergy, Fight them with the blood type diet" I was intrigued by this connection and astonished of the description of the biochemicals characteristics and personality profile of my blood type. I was amazed of how many similarities I found with myself.

My blood type allows a good variety of grains, for I am getting use to these substitutes, and also thanks to the "Personalized Living" E-Books, to cook new foods for myself in different ways and with more enthusiasm and creativity.

Thanks to the Swami Express now I have a more precise and reliable list of foods and meals to plan, and the possibility to "adjust my genes to myself" instead of "myself to the genes", as Dr.D'Adamo says, for I encourage everyone who follow this diet to accomplish.

In conclusion I have to say that since I am following this diet in a way more considered and taking regularly supplements for my type and genotype I do not suffer almost anymore of the variety of discomforts that were making my life sometime very difficult.

I am trying to follow all of the Doctor's recommendations for my type and I am getting always better.

Mariarosaria, Washington State

A-Positive-Secretor
40% Teacher- Genotype

My seven years with BTD/GTD

Hi everyone! I have completed seven years of journey with BTD/GTD, with more than 80% compliance. But have not yet Swamied. Results:

1.No more stuffy nose and throat, sinusitis and mucous overproduction
2.Feel energetic and alert in the morning
3.Diabetic condition is well maintained within normal range without medication or supplementation

I once shared my success story of uric acid control from around 10-11 range to less than seven (after three years' of compliance). However, I have not been able to control it permanently, as it now and then flares up and I lose track of the factors that flare it up. I have read about nine odd genes related to gout: so this stuff is genetically heavy weight. I have not given up and I am hopeful to find some dietary remedies for this in the near future. My research on this is going well and I will inform you in time once I am able to handle this problem.

My HDL has never gone up beyond 35 or so and triglyceride is also generally high (around 300-400) despite my compliance with BTD/GTD. These stuff too look like very much genetic (compare well with my mother's). Though I will carry out more research on this too, I am not worried too much for this.

Recently came to know about James Dadamo's new book (Just an ounce of prevention...) from this forum and got curious. Then decided to get one and now I am impressed with this original guy too! These days I have been busy helping families and friends find out their sub-blood groups in labs. May be for many of us who have difficulty in accessing SWAMI, this simpler method could be useful enough to tailor our food stuff and exercise regime. In my case, I did find that I have "B" influence and the food recommended are mostly in line with my genetic diet (Teacher diet) with some exceptions. James does not bother about potatoes, however, I will rely more on Peter's insights regarding potatoes.

So that is the review of my journey. I am proud of the fact that I am in touch with the ideas of Dr D (Peter) and Dr James Dadamo and will continue propagating these ideas in Nepal and abroad and helping families and friends for better health! Thank you all my friends in the forum.

Thanks 4 risk analysis saved me! Breast Cancer

Hi Dr D and All,

Haven't been on for a while because I'm fighting breast cancer. I found it early thanks to Dr D. Thanks <3

Being only 38 I'm not eligible for the mammography screening. Have had cysts for a while I'd already had the other one ultrasounded ( if that's a word!) Then there was a lump I had all year which I was worried about in the left breast growing very slowly, felt a bit lumpy with smooth parts - nothing like the cysts but I wasn't sure. In June the ultrasound said:

Quoted Text

"?degenerating cyst. A fine needle biopsy (FNAC) may be undertaken for peace of mind".

Well that just sounded just routine so I put further testing off for a few months while I moved house.
(Yes! We finally got out of that mouldy house by the main road into much peace and tranquility now (and better health!) for the whole family. )

I nearly didn't order the FNAC because finances are tight and it wasn't going to be fully covered on Medicare. Then a voice of reason in my head said, "you're an enlightened type A and you know from Dr D that you are at high risk for breast cancer. He recommends extra cancer vigilance for us Type As. Best to pay the money even if you have to use the credit card for your peace of mind." So I ordered the test. Thanks Dr D - you probably saved my life! and the voice of reason too!

The result came back Malignant and nothing that made any sense at the time. Didn't believe it until after the next pathology test. By the end of August I had a lumpectomy and they took out 11 lymph nodes. Can't fault the public system here! It was grade 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma with some DCIS and lymphovascular invasion, 1.8cm, Oestrogen +, Progesterone +, HER + (so could be aggressive - so glad I found it early) and had minor spread to one lymph node (aka to be known as Nigel - nicer than the C word). They cut Nigel all out and maybe too much but at least they got it all.

Recovery went really well with my good diet and supplements helping out. Got full range of motion of my arm and am exercising still.

Now I'm halfway through TCH chemotherapy to stop Nigel coming back. They want radiation after that and then hormone therapy. I'm thinking I'll skip Tamoxifen (cos it's linked with thickening uterine tissue and already have adenomyosis) will probably use monthly GnRH agonist like Goserelin (Zoladex) to induce menopause instead. Chemo has bought that on temporarily and I'm quite happy to be free of monthly visits from Aunty Flo! Having fatigue, mouth sores, lost hair, IBS, bone pains for a week from the Neulasta injections they give me to bring up white cells (they were wiped out after first chemo and I got a sinus infection needed IV antibiotics). Having another sinus infection now that's making my eye twitch. Just as well I don't have to shoot or anything. Overall I feel not so bad. Taking it easy. Missed you guys!

P.S. I'll be very interested to see if my high ANA (antinuclear antibodies) abate after this. They were suspecting lupus but it may have been my immune system trying to fight the cancer. Some say lupus is treated by chemo, but it makes you wonder. I hope to feel better after treatment !

Breast cancer and BTD

Hi,

I'm new to the BTD forums, but would like to share my story and maybe exchange experiences with fellow breast cancer sufferers.

I come from a long line of Type A women who all developed an aggressive form of breast cancer before they were 40 years old. I lost my mother, aunt, and grandmother to the disease. As a matter of fact, I am currently the only woman in that family line who is still alive, to give you an idea of the toll breast cancer took in my family.

At age 28 I fell ill myself, and for the last eight years I've had to deal with one recurrence after another, chemo after chemo, radiation and operations, so you can imagine I was getting a little tired of fighting all the time.

But then something funny happened: after seeing a documentary on TV about abbatoirs I decided, just like that, to stop eating meat.
And I immediately felt better. Being a Type A that's to be expected, but I didn't know about BTD at the time!
So I started looking into vegetarian food more and stumbled onto the BTD books. Read them, thought there might be something in it, and started adjusting my diet.

A few years ago I was virtually given up by my doctors: several metastases, poor outlook, general pessimism.
Now I only have one single tumor left, that'll be operated on next week, and if that one's gone, I'll be cancer free for the first time in eight years. Eight years!!!
Tumor markers are in the normal range too.
My oncologist doesn't believe the diet has anything to do with this; she likes to credit her chemo and her operations.

I will not deny they played a huge part, but let's get one thing clear: I started getting better only from the moment I started eating right for my type.

And I think, I hope, that after 8 long years, I can soon pick up my life again and start living, not surviving.

Results from yearly physical

Okay, I know I posted some of my blood work results, but I finally had my physical with my MD today. She had been skeptical (of course) when I explained that I had cut out wheat & dairy & was following the BTD. She looked at me with the typical, "You have no idea what you're doing or what you're talking about!" look of disdain that most people unfamiliar with BTD or ER4YT share. Anyway, she said my blood panel was "fantastic" and that I "couldn't ask for a better cholesterol panel." Even though my overall cholesterol is 206 (my highest ever), she said it's only because I've boosted my HDL by 35 pts. & it's now so high & my ratios are so good, she's not concerned in the least with the higher number. She asked when the last time I'd used my pro-air inhaler was (over a yr. & a half ago, thanks to Buteyko breathing & BTD), asked how my allergies were (I've only taken a handfull of allergy meds this season instead of suffering miserably for 10 months out of the year) and also told me that my WBC were actually normal, instead of low, for the first time in my adult life. She told me, "Whatever you're doing, keep doing it!" Who knew you could get this healthy eating red meat & eggs on a weekly basis? Dr. D., that's who! I can't wait to see how much better my results are next year as I've seen such an improvement in the last 8 months. 20 lbs. lighter, I can breathe well enough to exercise daily (including jogging) and I feel fantastic!!! Thanks Dr. D., for making my life a healthier place.

Trudging along....and a question

Hi, I'm back (after quite a bit).

The diet's been a little on the on and off side. Sadly things have happened to cause setbacks, mainly financial (like only having 20 bucks to buy two weeks worth of groceries. Meeps!). I've been trying to stick with the BTD as much as possible.

A few positives have happened. Just doing a bit has changed alot of my eating habits. For example: when I drink coffee, I don't even like using creamer in it. And the amount of sugar I use has decreased. What would've taken me a month to use a pound of sugar now takes about 3 months. ( I know, still bad.) After this bit of coffee I have to use, I'm going to quit drinking it.
I don't do processed foods except once in a blue moon. I can't really stand them most of the time.

I've been taking up walking in the afternoons when I get home from work. I'm trying to build up to running. If I don't don't get my afternoon walk in, I feel cranky.

I've been looking at the other books, like the GTD, but for right now, to get in better eating habits (curse of being a picky eater), I'm going to focus on Live Right for Your Type. But I do have a question about the secretor test. Is the test basically tasting a test strip and if it has a taste, you're a secretor. No taste is non?
The reason I'm asking is because in highschool my science teacher made the class try these test strips. You had to taste them. If they had a taste (and it was nasty, like horrible, powdery aspirin), there was a chemical in you. But they had no idea what it was for.
Any thoughts? Thanks!
