I am looking to start incorporating some whole foods smoothies into my diet using compliant fruits and veggies, and am looking for any recommendations on blenders to use for this...In a perfect world, I would order a Vitamix, but they are fairly spend, though I don't doubt their value; I have recently heard of some other blenders and am wondering how they stack up (i.e. The Ninja, NutriBullet, Blendtec, etc.) Thank you in advance for any advice or recommendations you may have!!

This was in today's newspaper. I'm going to first post it as is then suggest a few changes.

Sweet Potato Salad

6 cups peeled and cubed sweet potatos
1/2 teaspoon dried ginger
1/2 teaspoon dried cumin
3 tablespoons olive oil divided
1/2 cup chopped green onions
1/4 cup dried cranberries
1/4 cup chopped toasted pecans
2 tablespoons orange juice
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon lime juice
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Preheat oven to 425F. Line baking sheet with foil and spray with cooking spray. Toss sweet potatos with 1 tablespoon olive oil, ginger, and cumin and spread out on sheet. Roast 30 minutes or till potatoes are crisp. Cool and transfer into a serving bowl. Add onions, pecans, and dried cranberries. In a small bowl add 2 tablespoons olive oil, maple syrup, orange juice, lime juice, and nutmeg. Toss with the potatos

My changes: tangerine juice for orange juice and instead of cooking spray, line the tray with parchment paper, maybe use sweet vidalia onion instead of green onion.

Original source: "Too Hot in the Kitchen" by Holly Clegg

Okay, so I have recently lost a load of weigh due to a water urinary retention issue

I now can see that I have a bit of fat around my tum. to be honest its not that bad really but seems a bit of a waist not to go that extra mile while I am at it.

so today I though I'd have a little look at what calories (not that I count them or intend to normally) but just to see.

so this today, so far, I had the following

12 Kcal 8 oz glass of water with whole lemon juice

41 Kcal 1/2 grapefruit with

00 Kcal 1 Cup of water

250 Kcal 750 g water melon.

00 Kcal 1 Cup water

139 Kcal 1 cup pomegranate juice

2-4 Kcal 8 oz cup of nettle tea

250Kcal 750g watermelon

1000 Kcal shepherds pie with veg, mash and gravy

133 Kcal packet of crisps

110 Kcal Cadbury's fudge bar

500 Kcal 100 g of chocolate

It soon adds up to a lot doesn't it. I haven't actually eaten these sweets but i would like too and i often do

I wonder how many people eat less good food so they can eat more bad food? easy trap to get into when calorie counting!

BBQ ideas

We just got a new barbecue last week, after not having one for over a year. Prior to that, we only used the BBQ about 2-3 times a year.

It occurred to me that it would be very convenient to cook on the BBQ on days that Hannah is working in the yard, whether it's "yardwork" or "homework while sitting on the grass." I could see us wanting to use the BBQ several times a week in nice weather.

Last Thursday, I baked whole sweet potatoes for the Os, a whole white potato for Jack, plus beef burgers and turkey hot dogs (not 100% compliant) and a salad. This was a tasty meal, but not one I'm willing to make more than once a week. If I'm going to cook dinner on the BBQ 3-4 times a week, we'll need some more variety.

Remember that we keep kosher, so the BBQ can only be used for meat meals (since we've already put meat directly on the grills.) We've got a few Os and a B in the family. And my kitchen is a flight of stairs away from the back patio, so I need foods that don't take a lot of kitchen prep, or can easily be carried downstairs after prepping and before grilling.

I'm also used to having grains with dinner, and I'm not sure how to easily incorporate grains into a BBQ meal when I'm not eating corn on the cob nor eating my burger on a bun.
