How do you effectively avoid MSG?

I have been doing really well following the BTD and decided to have a few Hershey's Kisses thinking they weren't harmful. Minutes later I began to experience numbness and tingling in my tongue and my throat and tongue were beginning to swell! I didn't see anything questionable in the ingredients except "artificial flavoring". So I did some research and discovered the artificial flavoring is MSG! From what I read "artificial flavoring" isn't the only name used to diguise MSG. How are we supposed to avoid it if they don't identify it as an ingredient in food?

So I've been experiencing a real dark brain lately. I'm in menopause and have been reading about it and this seems to be a normal type of thing that happens. But they did mention getting thyroid tested. If so, it seems I've read somewhere that if they don't test correctly, you could receive a normal reading but still have an issue.

This morning I was really dark and decided that it had been awhile since I'd eaten good grass fed beef. So I made up some patties with olive oil, some millet bread crumbled up and added, (like my Mom used to do with regular bread crumbs), minced onions, cayenne and salt. Cooked um up nice and juicy with a little browning and ate one.

Now it's about 30 min later and my brain feels much better. Did I need some dopamine? I mean this is a distinct difference.

Any comments on the thyroid testing anyway would be much appreciated. I do take FemBalance but my hot flashes are not completely gone. It's just been lately that I've gotten the dark brain thing.

As well my body has become extremely sensitive to any wrong or off Swami limits food I might eat.

So I'm being forced to work on staying on the good path.

I have been really in the groove lately to eat soups mainly for dinner with either a veggie or a salad.

I started asking around where I could get pureed vegetable soup. No cream added. You would think in this day and age there would be plenty of places.

I had lunch with a friend recently and I brought beet soup which I never had. Beets are dark in color and "rooty" tasting.

Well it turns out that the soup was a beautiful raspberry color and had a sweetness to it I didn't expect at all. My friend loved it also. Since I got it at a health restaurant I'm not sure how they actually made it but I will find out. I just got a call from them that they will be making it this Thursday and Friday and I will put in my order ASAP tomorrow.

I went to about three other places and they didn't have pureed anything. So my thought was I can make this. I wonder how difficult it will be. Mentally I envisioned alot more work than it turned out to be.

I got four organic zucchini (sp) and microwaved them (yea, I used that machine) with a little bit of oilve oil, salt and pepper. When they were ready I put them in the blender along with some organic carrot juice, some greek plain yogurt and a few spices.

It was delicious and I had it with cooked turnip pieces with spices and a bit of butter.

So, now I know that I can make more soup. Somehow, for me, this is very empowering.

Joy
