I have had my blood drawn a few times every year the last 10 years as a routine to check my hormone panel. Every time my prolactin came back high. From 600-1300 mIE/L (Normal values: 86-324mIE/L). My doctor have sent me to the endo two times, but when I had my blood drawn at the endo the values were normal and therefore they have decided to not treat it even though I have stated that I want treatment because of my low sexdrive and occasional mild depression/low motivation. As prolactin suppresses dopamine and vise verca, I figured I have low dopamine, but don't know why. I started to self medicate with 144mg Rhodiola Rosea extract and 500mg l-tyrosine on an empty stomach first thing in the morning to raise dopamine and feel that it helps some. Are there any other herbs, supplements or methods I can try to raise dopamine/lower prolactin long term?
I'm blood type b, 29 years old male, exercise regularly and eat according to my blood type.
Any tips would be much appreciated  :) Thanks in advance :K)

You could try 500 mg tyrosine on an empty stomach.

Precursor to many hormones.

Try Tribulus Terrestris extract from NOW foods (1000mg per cap), 3 times daily. Helped me quite a bit although I didn't take it with the goal to treat high prolactin. The reason I took it was to increase my testosteron levels. However my blood levels did come up with high prolactin as well. I guess their might very wel be an inverse relation between prolactin and testosterone.

Not necessarily endorsing these ides. They are from an online search of your questions (Not checked for your type):

>Decrease your intake of sugar, alcohol, caffeine, and other drugs
>Take Phenylalanine  or tyrosine.
>Take magnesium
>Take vitamins C and E
>Eat bananas.
>Keep a regular schedule
>Get stress out of your life
>A regular breathing or meditation practice.

There were other suggestions besides these.

Rhodiola, at the proper amount is good for this.  In smaller amounts it is good but it builds up for me.  250 mg rhodiola is good to try or 500 maybe.  I started by taking 1000mg per day which was entirely too much.  A little bit goes a long way with this herb.  

Also try mucuna if you can find it.  I never tried this one.   Also can try ashwagandha,  it is good for males andworks pretty well for B as well.

Best rhodiola and ashwagandha are excellent together or separate.  You will obtain calm focus and stable blood sugar and correct hormone levels.  The best herb for regular long term use would prob be ashwagandha out of the herbs I mentioned.  Rhodiola perhaps at small amounts, I read of people taking it for years as with ashwagandha.  The best thing to do is try stuff, learn from this site and others for educated choices, and see what works for you.  Prob a little trial and error in there;)

Also, goat weed is good, but not long term.

UPDATE: rhodiola burns my butt out and makes me more irritable:)  I gave the rest of my bottle to my plants!  I give up on it for me.  I can't use any stimulants t is coming to light!  I need calming herbs.  I slept great till I started using rhodiola again.

But it prob will work for u better man!

Try a naturopath before you begin experimenting with your hormones.  You can really screw things up by trying to self medicate.  Our hormones regulate just about everything.  As a post menopausal woman who is still dealing with hormonal issues, I can attest to this.  You should see if you can find someone who specializes in hormones or who uses saliva testing, which I believe is considered the gold standard.

Does this ever effect your ability to fall asleep?   I found some and have taken 1 to 2 caps a day for one week and find it helpful except that I dont seem to fall asleep easy at night.  Yet I do not feel wired or stimulated.  

The bottle says 2 caps is one serving..  

My guess is that maybe I should refrain from taking this hetb in my case.

  It helps greatly w social anxiety and wish it did not mess w sleep for me.

I threw them out over my plants.  Maybe they will like it.  I slept no more than four hours a night the past week despite taking them at 5:30 am.

I have gone on and off them….can't tell if I need them or not…there are so many neurotransmitter issues I am dealing with (mthfr, etc.) …trying to get sleep…still don't get more than a few hours... :-/
tell me what works…pleeez! (I do the usual…mag., melatonin…)

I usually dont have trouble falling asleep unless I am stressing in some way.  I recently took a job that requires me to get up really early, so I have to go to bed earlier to get adequate sleep.

My body clock had trouble with this and I learned about ashwagandha.   This helped me to sleep and reset my body clock, and I adjusted to the change.  It is recommended for As especially.  I was doing superb with gotu kola and ashwagandha.

I dont know much about my neurotransmitter levels, but I learned that dopamine is an energizing chemical like the gas pedal for a car, the go switch.  

Mucuna felt great and really helped me except the not being able to fall asleep thing. I was starting to feel run down with it.  Maybe even 1 per day for me was too much.  I will stick to gotu kola and ashwagandha,  they both really help me a lot.

o….right…not yet because I do take melatonin…I will try  it but since it's melatonin I'm not sure it will be the key factor, but it'll probably help.
Thinking of going back to GABA….which may have helped for a time….
