I have just discovered gelatin!!  Such an exciting product!!  I am an O, so no problem!  But my DH is an AB.

I ordered a can each of the gelatin and the collagen hydrolysate....both from Great Lakes grass-fed cattle.  My question is...can my DH take the the collagen hydrolysate?  Yes, it is beef-derived, but only from the hide and he will not have to digest the beef.  It is a derivative and not the meat itself, and gelatin has so many benefits...healing leaky gut, aiding digestion, healing / strengthening connective tissue, etc.....so I can't imagine that it would have the same effect on him as eating a piece of beef?  I can't imagine that it could hurt any blood type...

I have only taken it for less than 2 weeks and see a difference in my skin and hair!  And I feel less allergic to my environment, too!

Lloyd, are you saying that the end product is unhealthy because of the processing? Is gelatine alone a better choice?

Just asking because my wife has been noticing brittle nails lately, and was considering gelatine supplements. Narnia's post sounds promising, but...

The process sounds yucky...but gelatin is a neutral for us Os so it must be OK for us to use.  My question is about other blood types since the process makes it sound even more like a product as far removed from the meat source as possible.

I am in particular, talking about the grass-fed beef gelatin.  Not all those other animals.

I'm not sure that you can infer anything from the gelatin rating. For a variety of reasons mostly about what we don't know - rather than what we do know.

Beef is generally beneficial or neutral for O and B. Collagen is not rated and presumed to be neutral, but I would personally tend to be more cautious if I were an A or AB. Ultimately the decision is yours and there really isn't much to go on.

It's a bit like trying to predict the rating of butter based on the ratings of whole milk and ghee. Not really something that can be done with confidence. Maybe not the best example but it makes a point.

Britten nails can be especially in AB's a lack of zink but merely copper which is the antagonist to zink ...haaaaa... ;) ;D

being a warrior, it seems that P.D. won't agree with your wish... ;)(hehe)(hehe) :X oops sorry couldn't resist ;) all gelatin products should be related to *vegetarian sources*... so far obeisance is demanded here... lock your head...amigo mio ;)  :X :K) some lekker mushies can do the trick as well.... 8)

I would stay away from anything hydrolated.......too processed for my taste, but that s just me

Thanks, but it's my type-O wife's nails that have become brittle. My nails have never been healthier.  :)

The type base rules gelatin neutral for O's, but also mentions that commercial grade is often derived from pig skin. If it can be determined that it's bovine sourced, I'll get her some (unless there are better treatment options for her). If there are choices- a healthier process for obtaining gelatin that results in a cleaner end product- I would be grateful for that information as well.

Of course, bone broth would be best, but not nearly as convenient.  We have begun to eat more brothy foods but have begun to add gelatin to the diet to increase our intake.  The results have been marvelous!!!

What is your understanding of "hydrolated," Lola?

Is hydrolated and hydrolized the same thing? Is it MSG? If so, it's neutral for type O nonnies.

I agree!  It is SO good for your hair, nails and connective tissue.  It has a neutral flavor (i.e., basically no flavor *lol*) so it is very flexible (pardon the pun) and can be used in savory and sweet dishes.  You can put it into everything from smoothies to soups to sauces to traditional gelatin-type desserts.

It is hard to find a non-porcine-based commercial brand of plain gelatin, though.  My health food store sells beef gelatin in bulk.  Anyway, it definitely rocks.

I am using Great Lakes Kosher Beef Gelatin in one pound boxes.  I ordered it from Amazon.  

Gelatin is supposed to heal leaky gut, so I am excited about that!  Their website states that the cattle are raised in Argentina and grass-fed....no hormones, antibiotics, or pesticides.

I could tell a huge difference between the Knox and this one, in terms of how I felt after ingesting it!

OK...so  now I am troubled!  ER4YT app on my phone said that gelatin is neutral for Os.  So, I have been taking it, as it has helped me greatly with delayed emptying of my stomach and have been excited about healing my gut.

The troubling part, is that I took a look at my SWAMI report and it has plain gelatin listed as a black dot avoid!!!!  OMG!!!  What am I to do now???!!!

I have been soooooooooo confused about all the discrepencies between the Eat Right list, then the secretor/non-secretor list, and now the SWAMI!  So many contradictory things!

Take for example, lentils.  It is listed as a worst offender for Os in the LR4YT book, but then it is a super food on my SWAMI!!  I will never understand how a blood-type specific diet can change food choices to turn a worst avoid into a super food within the same blood type!!  

I have been doing the BTD for over 4 years now and I do feel better, but I am really confused as to which way to go, due to these discrepancies.  I think that the only valid diet is one where each individual has the whole entire list of foods checked with their own blood to see what is best for their particular body!  In that case, it would not be a blood type diet at all, but a personlized analysis.

I feel better in many ways, but now I have developed a magnesium deficiency, which led to this stomach condition, where I have to supplement with Mg on a daily basis.  That, combined with gelatin, is the only thing that seems to be helping the food flow from my stomach into the small intestine.  But now, since it is a black dot, I am at a loss and very frustrated!  

I would love to know WHY gelatin is an avoid for explorers when it is a neutral for Os in general?!  These types of things do not make sense to me, and although I have defended the BTD against all naysayers, now I wonder about the validity of the BTD due to these types of huge discrepancies.

Here are two ways to end the confusion.

1. Choose one diet and stick with it. Ignore the other diets.

2. Understand that the ratings change from one diet to the next because a different set of factors are considered. In other words, they are different (but related) diets. Then do step 1.

That does not end my frustration and questioning the premise of the BTD and SWAMI.  If SWAMI is blood type based, and each blood type has specific allowables and avoids, how can a worst avoid like lentils be a super food for any type O??

I can certainly understand a narrowing down of the same list of foods on the BTD to be customized for a genotype, but to allow a worst avoid as a super food...I simply can NOT understand!

"Choose one diet and stick with it?"  Supposedly, SWAMI is deemed to be "superior" to the blood type diet.  Most of the time when there is some question, we are told by the moderators to "get SWAMI."  Well, if I am to choose BTD over SWAMI, isn't that supposedly going backwards to the inferior, generic diet??  What good is paying for a customized SWAMI just to throw it out?  On what basis?  How do  I know WHICH one is more valid for ME??

You can choose not to understand.

BTD is ER4YT. It is also LR4YT (secretor). It is also Health Series (several flavors).

There are multitudes of contradictions within the BTD if you choose to see it that way. Or you could choose to see that they are slightly different and more refined approaches.

SWAMI does what it does. There is plenty of information available, especially if you decide to enter the IfHI program.

Mostly it's up to you. The archives here on the site have discussed your frustrations many times over. That info is still here.

Choose whatever you are happy with and works for you.

I'm also certain that Dr. D cares less about whether or not you spend money on SWAMI than whether or not you find something that works for you.

Certain health conditions checked off on my SWAMI give me a few total avoids as a diamond!
So, if the gelatine is benefiting you, that is all that matters. Follow your intuition. You never know, if you saw Dr. D'Adamo at the clinic, it could change and become a diamond or beneficial for you.  :)
