I've just found out that I am a Nomad (B+) and I need to lose 30 pounds.  I used to eat the BTD years ago before I had my 4 children and I stayed slim.  I've tried low carb/high fat diets, but they don't satisfy me and I easily go off them.  I think the reason is also the fact that most low carb/high fat diets promote eating mostly chicken, avocado and olives.  I tried that for a week and didn't lose anything and couldn't figure out why.  Then I got my head back in the BTD and went further into the Genotype Diet and realised that those things were no good for me.  So, I guess I am wondering--has anyone been on the Nomad diet and lost weight and also eaten carbs (rice, etc?).  I don't mean going overboard on the carbs, I just mean a little here and there (I would love to eat rice cakes as a snack again!).

I follow SWAMI which says I am Nomad, but I haven't needed to / don't need to lose weight...  The best suggestion I can make is to follow the portion size and frequency recommendations while eating mostly beneficial foods and your body should heal and therefore, move toward its ideal weight.

Thank you for your reply!  I plan to purchase SWAMI...just trying to get my head around it all.  :o  Do you also take the supplements recommended for your Genotype/Blood Type?  Does SWAMI include recommended supplements?

I take supplements based on what I am healing or what organs need help.  I generally choose them from Dr. D's protocols:

SWAMI recommends supplements based on your type, etc.

I went on the regular BTD almost 6 years ago for my health.  I was also 30 pounds overweight, but I did not go on the food plan to lose weight.  Within 6 months I was off of all prescriptions (had been taking several) and almost all of the excess weight was gone.

I firmly believe that people who "go on a diet".......to lose weight will fail.  

I also firmly believe that people who follow a new lifestyle plan (I am currently following my SWAMI Xpress plan) faithfully will become healthy and their bodies will get to the proper weight.  That "proper weight" might be a few pounds more than a personal goal you would pick, or it might be less that what you think you should really weigh.  But who cares?  You will be healthy!

That's awesome!  Thank you for telling me that.  I don't want to "diet"...but rather have a better lifestyle.  And if that includes weight loss, then GREAT!  :)

All three are way bad for B's, no matter how you slice it.

Thank you! I'm extremely excited to be strictly adhering to my Nomad lifestyle. Today is Day 1. I'll let you know how I'm feeling over the next 4 weeks (and if weight loss happens--which I fully expect!)  ;)

I used to be 30 pounds overweight.  It was during a time that I ate a lot of grain, both cooked whole grain and a lot of flour products.  Also I ate a lot of dairy and sweetened foods.

The SWAMI dropped my weight fast, but I also tweaked it according to my needs, which were to avoid gluten, cow dairy and sweets.  I have gradually come to eat no dairy.  This is my own body's needs, not necessarily for all Nomads.  I don't eat flour products or cooked grains.  My grain intake is a couple of lightly toasted rice cakes a day, spread with almond butter and topped with whatever I wish.

I'm not eating low carb, by any means, though.  I love sweet potatoes, orange winter squashes, various root vegetables.  I don't eat low fat, but I stick with SWAMI guidelines for portion and frequency decisions.

13 years ago I lost 30 lbs in 3 months and have kept it off (150-120).  I vary every year by about 5 lbs.  I’m the lowest at the end of summer (115) and the highest at the end of winter (120).  I basically watch what I eat and how much.  I use portion control.  Calorie counting is too tedious.  Also I’m a big fan of exercise.  You HAVE to do both diet & exercise to succeed.  Muscle weighs more than fat so judge yourself by how well your clothes fit.
