BTD Forums  /  Eat Right 4 Your Type  /  Trehalose Complex Product Question?
Posted by: Harry O, Tuesday, January 28, 2014, 4:08pm
I'm curious if anyone knows why Dr. D's Trehalose Complex states to take an hour away before consuming green tea?

http://www.4yourtype.com/prodinfo.asp?number=NP067

Reason I ask is because I really wish that I could add it to my green tea that I consume (for energy and polyphenols) when I awake at 5:00 a.m. each morning an hour before I go to the gym to high intensity train on an empty stomach as I thought that on an empty stomach the trehalose would ''supercharge'' my cells simultaneously with my green tea polyphenols.

Thanks !!

Don't have the proper reference at my fingertips.

Quercitin and caffeine are two things to avoid taking at the same time as the trehalose, if memory serves.

A search on site should turn up a reference.

From what I remember of the previous discussions, the two work in different ways. One of them helps break down weakened cells, while the other helps to build up healthy cells. Taking them together cancels out the effects of both.

That's how I remember it, too, ruthie.  I remember someone saying they work against each other.  Been trying to find the answer using searches and can't find anything.  There ought to be a link on the ordering page for the product that explains it, instead of just making a blanket statement.

Quercetin, green tea, coffee all act in ways that are somewhat opposed to trehalose. Antioxidants are going to prevent the destruction of cells and trehalose is the clean-up crew promoting autophagy.

Thanks to all on this thread as I really appreciate everyone's take my question.

O.k. I now understand as green tea protects and trehalose breaks down (autophagy) and so i'll definitely not take the two of them together. One more question and that is should I not take it after my workout when I consume my protein drink (egg powder) since that helps to build up cells i.e. muscles? So when might be the best time and/or meal(s) to take it? What about before bed on an empty stomach?

I never heard the coffee bid  ..

but that aside..

Trehalose in tea is not enough for the heart to be getting the nutrients it needs for exercise.. I suggest you eat a little something... after you do some on line research about the need for 'food' before exercise.. to prevent on early morning heart attack.. early morning is the time when most heartattacks are happening.  pumping up with the stimulants is OK but the body also needs nurishment.

I also just bought trehalose complex for the first time, after reading about it for a year. The package arrived yesterday. It didn't include any information, other than "take one teaspoon twice a day." I know to start slowly with new supplements, so I took 1/8 teaspoon in a few ounces of water this morning, about half an hour before eating or drinking anything else.

What exactly can and can't I take with it? Does the trehalose interfere with anything other than green tea? How much time should I wait between them?

I believe it's supposed to be taken with a citrus juice.  I add it to my last few mouthfuls of lemon water in the morning and added it to a few mouthfuls of grapefruit juice when I was taking it at bedtime.

Ruthie,
I take it in my grapefruit juice in the morning.
I believe I remember reading that Dr. D said  that he does.  I ran out and ordered the Membrosia.  I really liked the Trehalose and need to get some more of that.  I ordered some and then left it in Louisiana a couple of months ago when I was visiting.

I don't have a whole lot of juice each day, as I'm a Gatherer with great risk of developing diabetes. I generally only have 1 or 2 ounces of juice per day, and that in my green tea (green tea creates a genoharmonic combination with a few different juices, which I alternate.)

I don't think it would  be good for me to start the day with 2 ounces of pure juice, nor do I think it would be good for me to stop ingesting juice in the genoharmonic combination with tea.

Directions: Stir Trehalose powder into water with a squeeze of lemon or mix Trehalose with a beneficial juice. Mixing in a spoonful of ARA 6 - Pure Larch Powder will increase its effectiveness. Dr. D'Adamo recommends taking Trehalose an hour away from green tea, coffee, curcumin or quercetin.
1 hour.

From C_Sharp's post (in the thread "TC plus ARA6 plus HELIX PLUS" ), which is very helpful to me:

Quoted from C_Sharp
So if time and lemons available:

I do Lemon Water with ARA6 first in the morning.

A half hour before the membrosia cocktail/fluidizer in Grapefruit juice.

I also do green smoothies later in the day

The trehalose complex is added to either the lemon, membrosia, or smoothies but not all.
(Emphasis is mine)

Since May 2012 I've been taking TC in lemon water first thing in the morning (with Redoxa, Polyflora, and Live Cell).

Today I started to take membrosia and TC together - in lemon water, first thing in the morning. I am considering taking them in cranberry juice (diamond).

I don't eat citrus because it gives me acid stomach.  The juice I drink is pineapple and I do 3/4 C in my morning smoothie.

So I add my Trehalose Complex to a glass of water with a tsp of ProBerry Liquid, a dropperful of Elderberry extract and a dropperful of Rosehips extract.

To that, I add 1 Tb of pineapple juice, a tsp of Camu powder and one or two capsules of Cranberry extract.

Also, ARA6, flax oil and Lecithin go into the mix.

The thing I noticed most when I was taking Trehalose Complex was that it produced a *ton* of energy.  Almost like a fat burner or speed pill.  My entire body would go all tingly and I couldn't sit still and needed to move.  We are talking here about how it is a product that "breaks down" cells, so this got me thinking that this "breaking down process" is producing energy, energy that can be used efficiently for exercise.

Also, exercise is a breaking down process as well, we break down muscle and burn fat.  During this process of breaking down, using Trehalose and exercising, I noticed that I needed water, so I'm thinking as things break down, we need water to flush them out.  I always need water while exercising, and when using Trehalose while exercising, I crave even more water.

So, I would normally take Trehalose Complex with some lemon water and ARA6, head out for some exercise, have water during my exercise, at least one liter, and then head back home for a Dr. D protein shake.  My body assimilates the shake much better than hitting it with some food right away.  Later on, then I'd eat some food.  Would also, after exercise and before the shake, drink a little more water, and try to calm myself down and reduce my heart rate.  Seems my body was still craving water as it was still trying to flush away the stuff being broken down.

A couple hours later, then I would eat a food meal.  This is then the process of "building up".  At this time, then drink green tea and eat healthy foods that feed the body and build it up properly.

Logic tells me that this seems to me to be the process we should undertake when incorporating Trehalose Complex.  Use it, exercise, and water to break down and flush out toxins, then sip an after workout shake to give the body something so it doesn't continue breaking down, and then once fully calmed down, then a food meal.

I was never able to take TC with any citrus whatsoever except what is already in it. But anyone who has read anything I had to say about TC knows that I got help from taking it. Most of the time I've taken it directly from a spoon away from any supplements or food whatsoever, only water - just in case it would interfere  someway. My best experience, and I've tried different ways, is to take it as soon as I get out of bed in the morning. Of course, I get an immediate rise in energy so it isn't hard to wait a while to eat. Part of the time I took ARA complex at noon and later began taking ARA6 along with the TC.

I am like Adama about the burst of energy.

The D-Ribose part of Trehalose Complex specifically provides cellular energy.  It should give you an energy boost short term.

The Trehalose part provides the autophagy stimulant so the mis-folded proteins are broken down to provide raw materials for additional protein building needs.

The citrus pectin portion provides a base for toxins to adhere to so they are more easily filtered out and removed from the body.

O.k. I see that Trehalose does increase energy and so I won't need the green tea for energy upon awakening at 5:00 a.m. for my weight lifting sessions however i do have one concern and that is since it's wintertime and so for example yesterday morning when I awoke it was 15 degrees here in the high elevation desert and so until it warms up come march/april does anyone have any recommendations that I could mix it with a ''hot'' beverage (rooibos tea?) in the early freezing mornings or should I just mix it with hot water from the microwave?

I had half a teaspoon this morning in a small cup of lemon water. Then I had breakfast about an hour later. I didn't seem to have a  bad reaction to it so I think I'll keep on taking that amount for a while before increasing.

I did have a decent amount of energy this morning, but I get a lot of ups and downs. I can't say anything definite about the results of the supplement yet.

For some reason, I have it in mind that grapefruit juice contains quercetin...does anyone know? I started to take the membrosia combo in grapefruit juice this morning, then wondered about this (but didn't have time to look it up), then used apple juice instead. Come to find out that apples are high in quercetin. Ugh. >:(

Grapefruit and grapefruit juice both contain significant amounts of quercetin.

So, taking trehalose or membrosia combo (which contains trehalose) in grapefruit juice would not be good...?

What juices might be good for the above? ??)

I thought Dr. D. said in an blog or "article" shortly after he released TC that he took Trehalose Complex with grapefruit juice...  I'd have to find the quote to reference, though.

Lola posted this quote from Dr. D. into the thread "Yes, Trehalose Complex is definitely Wow!"; reply #3...  So she obviously knew it at the time, as well, but didn't note where it was from.

Dr D
Here's a totally anecdotal story. I've been watching an age spot develop slowly on the right side of my nose, probably the result of sun exposure from sailing. I've been taking trehalose (1 tblsp daily in grapefruit juice for about two weeks). Yesterday Martha remarked that the spot seems to have lightened to the point of almost disappearing. I noticed another one on the back of my right hand also lightening.

I think the caution about taking TC with quercetin is only relative to supplemental, rather than food-contained quercetin...

Thanks Joe! Good news because grapefruit juice is my favorite juice, besides cherry... ;D
