Ok.. so I'm eating really close to Swami and I'm still having extreme pain at times... and my thumb joints never really stop hurting.  I'm also taking the supp's that are supposed to help pain and inflammation, i.e. Tumeric and others.  So I ordered, once again, the ERYT Arthritis Book, (as I've given two away), and it lists several foods that could be contributing to my arthritis that my Swami lists as diamonds, beneficials or neutrals:  Buckwheat, Millet, Oats, Rice, Chocolate, Mozzarella, Parmesan - basically all cheeses, Almond Butter, Sesame Seeds, Garbanzo Beans, Yam, Cabbage, Date, Chocolate, Arrowroot and Rice Syrup.

And sometimes the book lists foods as beneficial or neutral that my Swami says are AVOIDS.

So what's a person to do?  Are these foods in the Arthritis book known inflammation foods for O's?

I mean why did I pay for a specialized Swami and then have to go back and figure all this out?   I would assume that Swami took my Arthritis into account when putting my food lists together since I checked off the necessary boxes to indicate the issue as well as gut issues, etc.

I haven't had the funds to go to the Swami Practitioner in Eugene yet as I feel she could help me dechiper all this.

So I'm reaching out here first. What are others experiences that have arthritis in whatever form and what helped their pain?  I have read so many stories of arthritis sufferers whose pain has gone completely away!

I want that!    :B

I still have major pain due to the healing process.  It won't go away just as soon as you start eating compliantly, the pain goes away when all of the healing is completed...  In the meantime, you have to be thankful that you have found out how to make the healing happen and be glad that it is.

What have you entered in SWAMI Xpress to indicate that it should select foods to address your arthritis? SWAMI only selects foods based on what it know about. (No magic. It is a computer program.)

Did you eat according to the Arthritis book for a period of time prior to SWAMI? Were you free of pain (or at least had less pain) then, than you have now?

BluesSinger, I have some pain issues as well, and I've found that consuming certain avoids in any quantity all- even minute amounts- trigger the response.

I have too arthritis signs in my left hand fingers (swollen upper knuckles of the 3rd, 4th, & pinky), and this is a sign that an avoid, or some avoids, infiltrate into my food. I have no idea where they come from. I can make a guess: perhaps its the organic eggs that I eat in abundance, which may come from chickens that are fed on soy and corn. My country is tiny and the choice of organic food is limited. Some avoids probably reach me through beef and lamb - there's simply no supply of grass fed beef and lamb over here.

Yes like I indicated above in my first post, I checked off that I had Arthritis and gut issues in my Swami from the very start years ago.  And no I never ate according to the Arthritis book... I never even gave the Swami a full on chance until 8 months ago.

Well I wish I had your luck.  I'm following my Swami and my issues are worse.  8 months now..  some of the littler things must be bothering me because I've had not one minuscule of wheat or corn or coffee for 8 months and no dairy.  The Arthritis book says one should see big improvement by just cutting out corn and wheat - that has not happened to me. I cut out all black dots a month ago and I was only eating one.  I can look closer to see if I have any other small offending substances in my diet.

Last night I had a small bowl of salmon stew (homemade), with celery, carrots, onions, fennel bulb, wakame, tomato juice, and clam juice, chili powder, cayenne, along with two pieces of homemade flax bread (made with rice bran oil), and some roasted seaweed nori sheets. (this was a beneficial/diamond and neutral soup).

For lunch I had pan warmed sardines that had been rolled in rice flour, carrots, radishes, and an apple and tomato juice.  (diamonds and neutrals).

For Breakfast I had 2 eggs, sweet potato (is it a sweet potato if it's dark orange?), 1 chicken sausage (organic, no additives), okra cooked with onions, turmeric and a bit of agave, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and a banana.  (all diamonds, beneficials)

Upon awakening I had two cups of dark roasted organic yerba mate with a bit of carob extract, choc powder, stevia and almond milk.   (all neutral or beneficial)

I am in a period of  bloating, burping and hurting all over.  It's not just my joints.... some days my entire body hurts, aching.  It's weird and I'd like to keep hunting down the reason.

It has been fogged in here where we live.. lots of moisture in the air - anyone have more pain when moisture hangs in the air?

I am going to get on Insurance soon - Medicaid (because of no income), and plan to have a colonscopy and have arthritis tests to see if there is a connection there.  I know I have some osteoarthritis in my knees even though it does not bug me and I must have it in my thumb joints and neck because the pain in those areas is almost constant.   I also do saunas at least 4 times a week where I sweat a lot during the 2nd half of the sauna.

Thanks so much for all your questions and input... hoping to figure this out and feel 100%!!!  I know it's a slow healing process but the pain should be improving I would think after 8 months and not increasing.

Just a thought: I've noticed a few brands of sea vegetables that included an avoid or two (corn starch and peanut oil maybe?) Can't recall exactly, but upon seeing it thought WTF  :o   Weird ingredients show up in the strangest places.

I also stopped using rice bran oil because I just couldn't trust that it was pure, and I can't find certified organic.

Sea Veggies Source:  SeaSnax.  Olive oil and seaweed only.

Rice Bran Oil Source:  California Rice Bran Company - not organic.  (:  But I'm wondering if since it's still a form of rice, that it's affecting me since Rice seems to affect me????

Rice bran oil should be on you Swami, but my concern about it was that it might be cut with a cheap vegetable oil. Olive oil recently went through a similar identity crisis. Also, arsenic might be an issue making the sourcing worth investigating. I recently heard  that arsenic is concentrated in the bran. Not sure of that, though.

I hope you find what's causing this problem. Arthritis pain is no fun.

oh boy.. this all sounds awful.  Aren't companies supposed to list the other oils in the ingredients?  Where would the arsenic appear?

some areas highlighted in red that are possible problem areas for you either because they are avoids or can have avoids in them - as i suspect you have some measurement or tick boxes incorrectly set on swami.

probably two much fruit, certainly tomato can be an issue.

have you actually done a secertror test, and i would also get a MN test done. i'd be surprised if all that didn't sort it out oxo

Arsenic occurs in the rice.  Usually from the growing process (It is in soil and water) but can be added after.

The company may not of tested their rice for arsenic, even if they have they are not obligated to tell you the results.

Tomato is a nightshade and can contribute to arthritis.  You seem to have a lot of tomato products.

I am an O Gatherer and Swami does not allow tomato for me.  (I indicated joint conditions).

Chili powder is also an avoid for me.

I have indicted in two of my posts that I have ticked off the correct boxes on my Swami.  I did so when I first got Swami 5 years ago.  All of the foods are beneficials or diamonds or neutrals as I have indicated. Why are you telling me they are avoids?  I don't understand your reply to me.

Yes tomatoes are an avoid but tomato juice is a neutral.

I did a secretor test back in 1990 and I exercise daily.  The sauna is in addition to my exercise.

Tomoato juice is a neutral for me.  AS I indicated I only had neutrals, beneificials and diamonds in my food above.  I only use tomato juice.  The soup had about 1/2 cup and my glass was only 1/2 cup.

Both of you are ignoring what I have said in my post and accusing me of using avoids.   :-/

I'm allowed three fruits a day.  I did not go over that.

I don't know about hidden avoids in any of the foods above.  I will look closely but I already check very carefully.... and will continue to watch for this.

One Naturalpath suggested that maybe I should watch foods on this list:
http://stanfordhospital.org/digestivehealth/nutrition/DH-Low-FODMAP-Diet-Handout.pdf

However, I checked digestive issues on my swami as well and I'd prefer to follow what Swami has laid out as many of the foods I'm ask to avoid on the FodMap are diamonds for me.

Humid weather can DEFINITELY contribute to joint pain, muscle pain, and all-over fatigue.  I don't think I'll ever get away from "feeling worse when it's yucky out" but I'm hoping to heal enough so that my "bad days" aren't as bad as they were, and that I'll have fewer of them.

8 months isn't really THAT long a time in terms of long-term healing. And sometimes healing hurts, as our bodies detox and do some deeper healing.

I guess it's a slow refining process...and I have to be the guina pig of my own healing!  ha ha.   thank you for your comment.   :K)

Even though I focus on Diamonds and Superfoods with only a few Neutrals, I was unable to be free from arthritis pain until I gave up all of the Nightshade family, which includes tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes and the entire pepper family (cayenne, chilis, bell, etc).  It also includes ashwaghanda and goji berries.  Also, I have gone dairy-free and gluten-free.

These steps were taken even if any of the foods were listed as ok on my SWAMI or in the Arthritis book.  Just my own experience, for what it's worth.

Thank you.  No tomatoes, potatoes, dairy, gluten, eggplant, goji berries, ashwaghanda for me either!  I do add cayenne sometimes.. supposedly a Diamond.

I would follow the arthritis diet and supplement protocol and ask for a refund for SWAMI.

Depending on your level of sensitivity to nightshades, watch for any connection to inflammation when you use cayenne.
