I know that Heavy Cream / Half and Half is an unknown - just wondering if anyone is using it at all and if you have had any reactions?

opps sorry.. it's just Heavy Cream that is the one that is not rated. Half and Half is rated.

My Hunter husband has no problems using heavy cream It's better than milk for sure and I sometimes water it down to use instead of milk for him

I've tried the 18% coffee cream and it's not too bad, though I think it causes abit of congestion.

What's in the 18% and also in the flavouring? I only get congestion with avoids like milk and wheat etc

There's no flavouring in the 18%.  It's just a heavy cream.

I use heavy cream occasionally. I have no problems - unlike milk which bungs me up (with mucous).

My MIL is also a Hunter and has cream and likewise has no problem with it. We're all individuals though, so test and see how you personally get on with it.

I've tried it, and didn't do well. I'd gone 100% dairy free for a month, not even butter or ghee, and then had some cream in my coffee at my aunt's house. It made me congested. I wasn't on BTD at the time, and had regularly been drinking coffee with coconut milk, so I know it was the cream and not the coffee that caused me problems.

After another few weeks of dairy-free (so the congestion went away again) I tried butter and had no problems. So I know I tolerate butter just fine, and I later learned about making ghee.

I don't know how my body would react to cream if I was otherwise "eating clean" but I don't really want to try it. I know that cream caused congestion when that was the ONLY dairy I ingested for a month, and that's enough for me.

Still, I might have some whipped cream a  couple times a year (homemade without additives) but I don't pretend it's good for me. It's a "cheat" I can get away with if I do it sparingly enough.

Important note re cream:
Read the label.

If it's a brand that is distributed outside its own region (i.e., if it has to be transported long distances), chances are good it contains gums/preservatives.

If you stick with a local brand that isn't distributed afar, chances are better it'll be nothing but cream.

When, years ago, I side-by-side tasted a local "Organic" heavy cream and one that was just standard heavy cream, the latter tasted infinitely better! Then I read the labels. I discovered that the "organic" cream contained stuff that would keep it fresh during shipment...

And, yes, Possum - Heavy Cream is far tastier than milk. Bob Atkins used to recommend the Cream+Water formula instead of milk, too. Why? Because milk contains carbohydrates; cream doesn't.  ;)

san j I have even used 50% watered down cream in my husband's cups of tea and he hasn't complained, so it must taste ok (or he would be sure to complain, as he hates change and always notices new/different things lol)

Sometimes it depends on how the food breaks down, if a person has sluggish function in gall bladder, liver or pancreas, then the cream may be a problem esp if it has been pasteurised which most creams have been, so destroying the natural enzymes. I see some organic raw cream occasionally.
In terms of fats, for me, I choose olives, olive oil, and ghee most of the time, and of course the fats in nuts/seeds, and green leafy vegetables, as am trying to eat nutrient dense foods most of the time.
I miss cream, but sometimes may make something creamy like blending nuts and fruits, or the dairy-free egg-free egg-nogg I made recently which was delicious - just an occasional treat.
