Dr. D’Adamo: On Holidays and Stress

New in Personalized Living Webzine:

Quoted Text
Studies show that end-of-year holiday time ranks very high on the stress scale—exceeded only by the death of a spouse. Many people feel depressed at this time of year, perhaps due to loneliness, lack of sunlight, or as a reaction to the inherent superficiality of many of the public displays and celebrations.

I agree, holiday time/Christmas is not the jolly time for everyone, for various reasons, best to find ways to get through, ie exercise, yoga, time in nature, favourite foods, good movie or tv show.

That's one thing I like about Hanukkah coming early. My holidays will be over in a couple of days, and then I can relax for the rest of December and watch everybody else deal with holiday craziness! We do celebrate New Year's Eve, but it's nothing major for us.

I don't like to watch other people stressing for whatever reason. It is too sad.

No, not actually watching people stress out, but I can look at everybody's last-minute holiday preparations (posting about what to buy the kids for Christmas, etc) and be relieved that I'm done!

In the Northern Hemisphere Xmas falls in the month of least light hours and most darkness, just before the number light hours starts to increase around January 17-18. Surely such time calls for some ritual/event to alleviate the spirits.

Some important Jewish holidays occur in opposite circumstances, i.e., at the time of full moon.

This week we are having in our building a couple of celebrations of another kind : Residents' meetings, in order to tackle, or at least in order to look like tackling, the problems of roof and outer walls water leaks. On the day of the first meeting I prepared myself and took 3 capsules of Rhodiola (partially compatible with Catechol) and 2 tablets of Traumeel (My apartment is in the upper floor, right beneath the roof... :P).

And some people only feel relief when they inflict pain and misery on others! Time to get away from such people and keep taking our supplements and eating genoharmonic foods!

Since we also don't do the Holidays, stress is somewhat less, however just going to the stores or to town is stressful for me, to busy, and crazy. The weather is somewhat iffy making it all the more so. Next week I will try and get all my groceries that I'll need till the first of the year. I will only need to drive to work and back, I'll also get money on my gas card so I won't have to go into Walmart.
