BTD Forums  /  Nonnie Clubhouse  /  No Earrings For Me - Metal-Free Nonnie

I've cruised the "you might be a nonnie if..." thread a bunch, but I don't think I saw anything like this, so I'm curious:

Any other nonnies unable to wear metal?  With me it started with piercings, and has now moved to bracelets and necklaces.  The only thing I haven't reacted to is my wedding ring, and I'm assuming that it's only a matter of time before that happens.

My body would "eat" the finish off the hypoallergenic pieces I'd put in my ear piercings.  The manufacturer said "that's impossible."

Any other nonnies metal-free?

Yes...I can't wear metal. Except 24 karat gold rings don't bother me.

My wedding band is white gold...  24K, I think.

He he, same here :-)
For me it has to be YELLOW gold. I had a nose piercing made of white gold, my entire nose was really itchy.

I bought some 9 ct earrings and I don't have any problems to wear them during the day.
My wedding band is 18ct and I've got no problems at all.

I certainly can't wear silver, but I can wear gold. My class ring turned my skin green, but then I was able to wear it after coating the inside with clear nail polish.

I had a very nice Jewish star necklace on a 14K gold chain that I wore for years. When the chain broke, I couldn't afford to replace it, and I eventually bought a cheap gold-colored chain. That one irritates my neck- so instead of wearing it 24/7, I can only wear the necklace a few hours at a time. I hardly bother; it's sat in my jewlery box for years. One of these days I'll get a good quality gold chain to wear it with, but it's a very low priority in the budget right now.

I do OK on 14K gold next to my skin; it doesn't have to be 24K.

In Europe it has been forbidden for years to put nickel in cheap jewellery.
So I've always wondered what it was that gave me that reaction...
Silver does not trigger the reaction so quick, but does eventually.

I'm working on deep healing, but quite frankly "being able to wear cheap jewelry" isn't a priority. I'm fine with owning very little jewelry, all of it good quality gold, and not wearing it all the time.

I only can wear gold jewelry.  Once I wore a gold electroplated ring and it burned my fingers starting from the one it was on and spreading to the other.

amazingly this happened to me as well years ago... dearest half of mine RL.. but since about 5 years my preference is silver and here no problems anymore...only sometimes black shadows on my right fingers but not onto the left...and none as bracelets nor ear wearings... but a reaction of any other metals.... :o :-/ :B  :P
