BTD Forums  /  Nonnie Clubhouse  /  Hey!  Nonnie-Nonnie...

I just got my results back: I'm a nonnie.  My husband has been helping me put together a quick reference guide.  Red wine is apparently highly beneficial now, so maybe I'll go get drunk. :)

(I assume you know I'm joking).

Yes, welcome to Nonnieville.  It has seemed to me that there are a lot more nonnies in ER than shown by statistics - but since we tend to have more severe health problems I guess it figures that more of us have found ER and stick with it as the way to get healthy again.

You may not want to hear this, but I mix my red wine half and half with filtered water.  I started doing this when I bought a bottle of "less than wonderful" organic red wine and found it was quite drinkable when diluted.  Now I prefer even the non organic wines that way.

The benefit is that now I can drink a glass of wine every day  :K)  since I'm only drinking about 2 ounces at a time.

I think our Nons should have conventions. There is still so much we can do because we have the forums to work off of.  :)

That's brilliant.  Why didn't I think of that?!?!  I never liked the taste of wine, so it was actually really hard to start drinking it.  I kept getting the feeling even before I got my results back that I NEEDED to drink it, though.  Watering it down might make it easier.  Thanks!

You are welcome!

There are also non alcoholic wines. Some are awful, but the Ariel brand is good if you can find it.  You still get the reservatrol benefits but not the "bite" of the alcohol.

I've added grape juice to my red wine, and that makes it a geno-harmonic beneficial for me.  Or I've added club soda to my red wine.  I've never been a wine drinker either.  Any alcohol for that matter.  With ongoing liver issues I figured I don't need to put any more strain on it.

Welcome to nonnieville.   I don't drink that often (couple of times a year...usually wine with seltzer water (0% salt unlike club soda).  Also...helps the tummy with the seltzer water being beneficial.

Enjoy your new found knowledge.

J. Lohr Winery makes the Ariel brand of non-alcoholic wine, i used to work there.  Their website is http://www.jlohr.com/, you can buy the wine directly from the website or call them to see if there is a local distributor for where you live.

Good question, Ruthie!

Grape juice is "grape juice".........

NA wine is made from grape juice, but then the alcohol removed. Yes, there is a difference in the taste. Kind of hard to describe though. Probably something to do with the yeast in the grapes having turned the sugar into alcohol, so you aren't getting exactly the original juice after you remove the alcohol.  Oh heck, I really don't know!!!!

My husband drinks the NA wine from time to time but he says he really does NOT like grape juice.

The sugars in the juice will have been fermented into alcohol, then the alcohol is removed (by whatever method they use).
