BTD Forums  /  SWAMI Xpress  /  Finally!  An answer to my bout with diarrhea
Posted by: Enobattar, Sunday, November 3, 2013, 2:15pm
After almost 8 weeks of loose bowels and a loss of at least 11 pounds, what started on Aug. 8th finally stopped on Sept. 6th.  This started with a 2 week bout with a stomach virus and ended with 28 days of following Dr. D's colon health protocol.

It has taken me this long to report back to you due to experimenting with the supplement I had been taking beginning 5 or so days before this all began.  It wasn't until close to the end of the colon protocol that I began to figure it out.  Didn't want to report false findings so I took my time to do it right.

PLEASE let me thank Victoria for her advise and Lola for backing up her post to me when I was probably half way through this ordeal!  IF I HAD LISTENED (pardon the capitals but I simply have to emphasize this point), my problem would have ended almost immediately!

I was told by these well experienced people to stop ALL supplements for a couple of days and begin taking them one at a time.  (I think C-Sharp has also made this point to us on different subjects.). In my "I think I know best what is best for me" frame of mind, I barreled on ahead on "my plan".  Which worked!  But at a much greater cost!!!

Much to my surprise it turned out to be the Phytocal!  Bums me out but it is what it is for right now.  After weeks of experimenting I have found that I can handle 1 every other day, taking Calcium Lactate from  Standard Process every other day.

Anybody have an opinion to share as to whether maybe I shouldn't take it at all because within one full day my bowels begin to loosen?  I would like to take it as much as my body will allow.  Has anyone had a similar reaction to it?  It is rated by my SWAMI as a three star.  Deflect is five stars.  Each member of Teacher 3-pack is rated 6 stars.

It sounds like your body doesn't need as much of the highly absorbable minerals that are in the Phytocal product.  If you take 1 per week do you see any effects from not taking it?
The better your gut functions, the less supplementation you will need, as you will meet more of your needs from the foods you eat.

Could you look and see what is In the item.. meaning one item might give you clues, while all the others will be ok.

then again you might not need the sup no matter your wishes.. the body is telling you something... WHY do you think about needing it.

AB and Goldie, I think I need calcium in particular because the last time I was muscle tested (mid-diarrhea) my body indicated the need for four of the S.P. Calcium Lactate.  But, perhaps that need was due to losing nutrients due to the diarrhea.?

AB, my bowels go back to completely normal (pre-Phytocal days) after 3 days without it.  And that includes the elimination of the occasional internal gurgling I've been experiencing since taking Phytocal.

I experienced leg cramps (pre-Phytocal) in the past and when taking Calsium Lactate, would merely increase my prescribed dosage by one per day, which always took them away.  Last night (after taking a Phytocal that morning) I awoke with the worst cramp in my right calf muscle than I have ever experienced!  Very puzzling.

Can't wait to be tested again to see what my need for calcium is.  Perhaps since being on such better nutrition over the past few months and finally able to hold my food long enough to have the nutrients extracted, my need is less.  :)

By the way, I failed to mention in this morning's post that my reactive/infectious arthritis which severely restricted the movement of my right middle finger has all but been eliminated.  And it happened during those excruciating 7+ weeks!  I'm crediting that to first of all the fast and BRAG diet I was on, but then mostly to the 28 day colon/intestinal protocol of Dr. D's and, in particular, the Deflect.  Can't rave about that supplement enough.

Because of what I've learned, I am looking forward to all of the auto-immune symptoms to be healed!  :)

You know, you may be right.  Before Phytocal.... Even before the Teacher 3-pack, just eating my SWAMI foods, my movements were regular and with very rare constipation.

Calcium tends to be constipating. Take magnesium to loosen stools and calcium to firm them up.

Present cramping may indicate that calcium is not properly balanced with magnesium and potassium.

Thanks, C.  I'm going to go now and soak in a tub of Epsom Salt.  :)

Open the capsules in to a container and take a dash a day, you can increase it over time and see how it goes.

Just mix it in water.

Magnesium is ok, yet it is so unpredictable to when it works and how.. you can lose your insides without warning..

When I for instance had constipation issues for 15 years, I tried all sort of sups, but they stopped working soon enough..

by comparison I used oil away from food and after two weeks of doing that to stave off hunger and it worked and after 2 weeks the constipation was eliminated.

Every time or at least many time .. I have issues with sups.  very few work for what I want.

There is a -new?- Trehalose complex called Membrosia Complex.  It has these totally different items in it than the more familiarly used Trehalose complex.

You can see the ingredients on the Eat Right site.. it seems more 'complex' than the Trehalose Complex with just d-ribose..

You might wish to look at that and see what you think of it.

It is sold with some liquid (fish oil plus- I dislike) for constipation...or for detoxing... (.. man I would rather just use the extra light olive oil)

but it might be good for you???????--

Think I'll try this.  Thanks.

Thanks, Goldie, for your info, too.  If I ever get constipated again I'll give that a try.  :)

The Fluid Membrosia, which is the fluid part of the Membrosia Combo, consists of 5 kinds of different oils, mixed for promoting cellular health - flexibility and permeability of the cell walls, particularly the brain cells. Far beyond treating constipation.

:D It's great to hear that you are persisting with the mysteries and finding ways to get to the answers!

I don't take PhytoCal.  I agree that calcium is important and I believe that Dr. D'Adamo's source from clean, northern seaweed is exceptionally fine.  I buy his Clear Cal, which leaves off the other mineral supplements.  I prefer to buy my own magnesium supplement, which I get locally, and also add 1/2 tsp/day of trace mineral drops (ConcenTrace).  This works well for me and my sensitive digestive system (which reacts to anything weird by giving me loose stools).

I just had a bout of running to the bathroom for a few days... I stopped all (new) sups and decided to take only one new one every 4th day to see what is causing distress.. live and learn.
