BTD Forums  /  Eat Right 4 Your Type  /  blood type versus metabolic diet*

First off, I am not trying to disapprove of dr. d'adamos blood typing versus Dr. Mercola's  metabolism diet-I just want the best of both if this is at all possible.
In Dr. Mercola's book "Take Control of Your Health" if you look  on page 16 through 19 he explains why blood typing concept from D'Adamo did not work for him because as an A blood type he was told to have a high grain and low meat diet which is the exact opposite of the protein type diet. Dr. Mercola mentioned that he listened to D'adamo's "A" blood type but he had to completely stop because of his sugar levels rose to over 126.

Dr. Mercola believes that people metabolize  the food they eat differently based on genetics. According to the Metabolic typing people can be classified as either Carb types, Protein types or Mixed types. Also, there are 2 different kinds of carb types, 2 different kinds of protein types and 2 different kinds od mixed types.
Can someone break this down in simple language to me about these doctors differences.
I have followed to the tee D'Amato's diet. I am an O type-non-secretor and also purchase his products monthly. :-/

First of all, Dr. D does not recommend a high grain diet for A's.

Second, you can't mix and match the two "diets."

Third, you failed to mention how long you have been following ERFYT and how you are actually doing.

Trivia:

If you want a diet based on Genetics, I recommend the GenoType diet.

http://www.genotypediet.com/index.shtml

If you want to combine a genetic diet with the blood type diet I recommend the SWAMI software.

http://www.4yourtype.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ED070

When you combine two different diet systems, you inevitably have some food rated differently and then you have to decide on each individual food item which diet is best for you to follow and whether if you eat this food you should change the rating of other foods you eat to be compatible with it.

If your diet universe is a hundred foood items, that can be a lot research to done.  SWAMI looks at your health profile and makes the decisions on individual foods for you so you do not have to do the research.

Looking at Mercola's plan for me. I see similarities and differences. Mercola wants me to do more dairy and less soy. I do well soy and poorly with dairy.

I actually do combine sort of. I eat my swami recommended foods as a 'protein type', which I definitely am. I don't eat from the grain, juice, or any of the high carb anything else. I eat the beneficial proteins, grains and fats from SWAMI and leave the rest. THAT is what works best for me, but that's me. I am then not eating the high lectin/damaging foods for my blood type but still eating according to my metabolic type. I am most certainly a fast oxidizer and all the carbs I get on BT are not good for me at all. Lots of O's thrive on quality protein, healthy fats and low starch veggies. They also do best with minimal to no grains and limited nuts/legumes. Sounds kind of like the protein type? I'm pretty Paleo as well. They actually all have a lot of similarities

I find any Person or Doctor who disparages about anyone elses work is doing everyone a disfavor.

Who is to believe in him or her doing everything on his eating plan just right, for how long and what other factors are suggested.  For instance ... If Dr M was testing for sugar.. is he diabetes prone?  If Yes then he should have followed the Diabetes book...

This whole idea of bashing each others work is stupid.. It only shows that different people respond differently to what they READ.  Understanding all takes a long time and much caring.

I am not even happy with NAP having so many supplements-- I wish all good health could come from food alone--- But when I read Dr M's newsletters and see the hype of this that and the other thing, I get nauscious. something new every week.. I am so tired of being sold!  Like Dr Oz... he may have good things to promote, but all together there must be 300 NEW items every year ---- who could take alllllll that stuff???

I say, take a chance to be as good as you can be... follow Dr D if you THINK that is correct, but follow anyone else as you see fit also-- I have no issues,,,,, but be honest with your self.... tell your self the truths when something is reacting differently than expected.

For instance I was constipated by BTD, then I read that OIL would help with hunger,  I took the Oil and it helped with Hunger terrifficily!   After 2 weeks of Oil I was never constipated again..     Had I taken the oil as prescribed by Dr D not in food but uncooked and alone, I would have never been constipated either....--- yet I had listened to the old view of less fat-- stupid of me--- and I constipated me/myself!    So you see there are many things that may work for one but not in the same exact way because we interppret words differently.

I looked at -Shangry-la diet just for info, and appreciated that that writer never disparaged on any other persons suggestions.. I listened to the oil thingy and got unexpected second benefits from it..   Is he therefore a genius or did it just work for me, for my own situation, for that moment in time?

Was Dr D wrong about MY oil consumption... I think not,,, but I interpreted his words my way, with what I knew for way back and I sabotaged me.... was I stupid, no ...nor are you... just the 'professionals' sales people act stupid when they suggest that they are gods gift to the world.

Dr D knows that we fail and he allows 20% Choice to do things OUR way.. so why not leave the guys work alone and do your own research ON You not on what 'they' say.

Test and keep testing every year!!!!!!!!!!!! keep testing!!!!! on You. You are the individual person important to You!

Dr D sells you a book or you get it free from a library.. he makes maybe 10 dollar on the book or less, and for that he has us communicate and support each other.  Give opinions, (mine are worth 3 cents) he allows for choices, he supports your efforts for the last at least 17 years.. and many of us here agree with his advice.. so where does that leave you?

A thinking human being, capable of study, trying this or that, and then Honest self evaluation..

I was tested by my doctor 17 years ago to be nonnie, last week I was retested and am Secretor!!!!!  who should i blame? who to cut his head off?

I go with what I know, I test and in a year or so I might learn which is or was better for me... ONE thing is certain....... I was very ill when I came here, and NOW I am Great!!!!!!!

How are you since you came here?  learned anything? feel anything? trust is on issue --  trust your own self!!!! You are the IT that matters.

Dr. D. formulates products to assist sick people who come to his clinic with many problems.  While the gut is absorbing very little from food, it may need supplementation, but as the healing process progresses, this need may dwindle until very little supplementation is needed.  We have to continuously listen to and account for our body's needs...

About 13 years ago I did “Body for Life”, Dr. M’s Metabolic Diet, then Dr. D’s Blood Type Diet.  The food from the 1st 2 didn’t work for me.  Dr. D’s did.  I tried to combine the best aspects of the 3.  I did exercises from BFL, % from MD, & food choices from BTD.  Now I just do Dr. D’s SWAMI.  It works best for me overall.

Goldie, well written :D...(smarty)(clap)(ok)(woot)(hehe) but as being a therpaist by yourselve.. I think we need to come along with that very easy approach: do all on your own ;)... you've all the knowledge and also the tools for it.. so far...what's up then??) ;) ;D....
I don't believe any whitecoated anymore.. ther's so much of junk in the allopathic treatments and as I saw... + - all of those aren't even aware that mankind still has a biologic body, funtioning in a sort of trinity...so what....(shrug)(mad)(hand).....
Fragmental thoughts are one of the main culprits...and then also the need for domination of people with fear and chemical bombes....which are muchmore harming then thought....I justamente was forced to take notice that a lot of libanes inhabitans were leaded to dependancies about SSRI's...they were sold without any rp nor diagnoses but just for fun similar to painkillers....(dizzy)(huh)(scared)and those people do still cotau and believe ...... :o :-/ that this should have been help... but instead they get even more into deeper troubles....

amazing...amazing in what a kind of world we all do live.... :'(

Yes no doubt that is so or no one here would have bought this or that.  Some things work in a day and show right away that it addresses on issue.  Other things take longer.

The comparison to being sold in some other venue, with one new : good for all.. is what I object to.  Dr D or NAP is discrete and very specific about promoting any item alone or in combo.

Bid difference from the screaming endless mailings or e-mailings or videos by some others can be very disconcerting.  Especially when one is not feeling well, or secure enough in trusting BTD. then one feels almost compelled to 'shop'..

For me most of the time, I am better of if I turn all such unsolicited information off.  Healing takes time. For me personally Trehalose Complex fixed more than most all other items.I took it for three month and then tapered of... ..  It was a brain saver.  Membrosia Complex is a new item for me, has not yet shown hw it works.. but I expect wonders from it as well.

I never even knew about that existing, so low is the Push to sell it, here!  I am grateful for respect shown the customer. Typical under Dr. D's or Martha's guidance.

Amazone... Yes to all you keep saying.. vigilance is so important.

I have not yet decided.. still questions to be answered.  I am drinking grapejuice, and feel very comfortable with that.

A few years ago I subscribed to Dr. M's newsletter.  It didn't take long for me to figure that he is not in the business of helping people but in the business of "selling stuff".  NOT FOR ME!!!!

The good thing is: Many are becoming wise to the fact that there are indeed different types of metabolism, different genetic strains/markers for various health processes and susceptibilities, and that there's no one-size-fits-all program anymore.
Of course, in Asia, this has been known for millennia.

Taking data and prescriptions from one program and "blending" them with those from another program can also be a good thing, an aid in discerning what works best for a given individual. I've never seen Dr. D'Adamo to have a problem with that approach. Somewhere he even advises, for example, combining the Blood Type Diet with a weight loss format that has historically worked for an individual.

Years ago, I very much enjoyed (and unintentionally lost a lot of weight on) a three-way trial of BTD, GTD (then a brand new phenomenon) and the ancient Ayurvedic diet.

Maybe this Doctor Mercola is on to something for some folks. And maybe we don't know yet why it works for them. Isn't that okay?

You have to wonder - What do they believe they stand to gain if they can somehow hurt the reputation of another?  ;)

I still wonder what Genotype Dr Mercola is, and whether SWAMI would produce a diet for him that's similar to what he's figured out on his own.

I think Mercola looks like he could be a Teacher.
