PROBLEM! Swami recommendations do not meet my needs for my  now.

I have not bought Dr. D's "fight diabetes with the BTD" But this is an example of what I have to do with my SWAMI to arrange protein according to Dr. Lam's writings:

Breakfast: red meat 2x wk, poultry 2x week, fish 3x wk  (= 7 days utilizing "Eat a Breakfast Like a King")

Lunch: fish 2x wk, 2 eggs 3x wk, cheese 2x a week ( = 7 days but this is sounding wrong already with the cheese by itself because the eggs are running out!!)

Bedtime or emergency blood sugar snack: nuts, 5x a week, cheese 1x a wk ( !!!??? sounds GREASY and undigestible! Is this where I have to add BEANS?)

I complained about this a long time ago when I first got my Swami report and noticed the lopsidedness. Nobody gave me an answer except to say to read it carefully and use what was there. I was still mad. But back then I was still used to eating meat a pound at a time, like any other mis-eating A.

I don't feel like I can trust this yet. Let me tell you why: If I move all the beans and nuts to the evening to "eat like a pauper" even if I cut the beans down to 1/4 cup, just to make sure I am not overloading, won't that still trigger low blood sugar at 3AM??? Or will I sleep through the night, as long as my GI is within balance avoiding high GI Swami foods?

I WAS eating beans happily with veggies in the evening and someone who was an O couldn't figure out "why I was managing my bulimia that way."

I'm mad. >:(  I'm back into that "it's all my fault" kind of feeling. (dizzy)  :'(
It's 5Pm and I just ate a can of chicken out of blood sugar frustration - because I already ate my peas this morning because I was feeling so good I forgot my protein snack at 2pm. Now I feel like a "Loser". Like I'm going to gain 10 whole pounds by tomorrow because of the cardinal sin of eating a meat at 5pm with type A blood. Like tomorrow I'm going to bust out into full blown diabetes with just this one mistake today, and like every drop of my happiness hinges on this "one thing" I just didn't get right. Like I should "self destruct out of kindness to others" (!!!!???? feelings of annihilation must be leftover from growing up with a Borderline Personality Disorder Mom......nobody who likes themselves willfully wants to self-destruct and not see "tomorrow" or feel better.)

Won't somebody address the beans issue and the 3AM blood sugar drop? :/

Beans actually raise my blood sugar. I cannot eat them alone way too many carbs. I have to eat meat and or fiberous crudités to prevent this. Turkey and cheese and or avocado will also help before bedtime as well as afternoon. You might try cottage cheese with a fruit or veggie. Casein stabilizes blood sugar over night.

Ok so definitely veggies but also casein would help stabilize things when I eat beans, unless I crash at 3AM anyway.

CJ, what is the latest you have ever eaten your meats? Plz ??)

I have eaten a piece of turkey meat with a bite of cheese as late as midnight, but this is mostly because I did not have enough time to eat a regular meal at dinner combined with teaching an evening class. Satisfies hunger and stabilizes insulin spikes overnight. I have been reading Mike Geary author of the Truth about flat Abs. He and some other nutritionists have said that the casein in cottage cheese provides the right amino acids to satisfy hunger and prevent insulin spikes overnight. Whey protein on the other hand supposedly does the opposite. Perhaps this is why whey protein is an avoid on my SWAMI but I can still have ricotta cheese as a diamond superfood and it has more whey than casein. I guess the ricotta is ok combined with other foods.

This all may just depend on the individual. I usually eat more meat at lunch or dinner between noon and about 7pm. I say experiment and do what works for you

I am wondering who or what for Dr. Lam's writing?  will it not be confusing? adding stress?

Hello Goldie; I'll remember that as I wait for a phone appointment with him/and or his clinicians. (ok) I hope your surgery went well!

Breakfast and lunches host the main proteins for us: meats (if any), poultry, fish, eggs and beans (choices: tempeh, tofu, lentils, other sprouted beans).  All of these with tons of veggies from beneficial lists.  Sometimes, not often, use rice or quinoa as side dishes.  

Evening is the lightest meals.  For us that means yogurts with sprinkle of the protein powder or carob or raw cacao and some nuts and dry fruits.  Or some light miso soup with leek and ghee rice cakes.  Or some rice cakes with ghee miso spread.  Or oats and yogurt ,,,

Hardly have snacks, but if I do, I may have rice cake and peanut butter or sourdough bread and peanut butter.  Fruits could also be part of snacks, particularly in the afternoon, in very hot days I love my super bene red grapefruit (so cool and refreshing).

King, Queen, pauper is our motto too ...

Yes, do the maths with Swami portions and frequency to guide you, but balance it over the course of the week. Take the figures as in weekly rather than daily, then it becomes easier ... Like eggs, I have 6 a week, but many days go by in the week when I do not have any, but then I make a single omelett with 3 as a meal for lunch one day,  and use another two or three on a veggie loaf made with leftovers for lunch another day.

Do not be so hard on yourself,  have fun with it ... trust the system you adopt and grow with it ... You are doing great!

When I read the last post I was getting frightened thinking I would starve, but that might be because somewhere in my mind I still am freightend of being hungry... I wish I could just eat yogurt for dinner... I would starve, I wish I could cut all the portions to minuscule, but the thought still messes with my mind... I think my insides would just up and march up and demand more food... what a silly way to live... I am going to post your A sheet on my O fridge and look at what is possible and no ambulance is coming with sirons blasting... haha....    

I tested my bloodsugar 3 am just for info purposes, and again at 10  am and the numbers differed by 10 am - being 30 points less/// and because I was up half the night I went back to sleep by 4am until 10... So what does the 3 am number mean?  ...

How do you experience your 3 am low or high??

Could dreams make a difference?  What makes us vulnerable?  Who else in the family has the same issues as you do?  What is your oxygen level at that time?  Would a glass of water or something by your bedside be enough to make a difference?

I am just meandering; I only know Blood sugar issues as pre-cursers to diabetes.  I used to be and am still hypoglycemic, and so do not like the feelings of los blood sugar.  I am O so I have no A info, but “I” needed more food then is in the list above.  Is low sugar a feeling or is it real?  Real as in: are you testing (my new mantra= finger stick: Test your Sugar) Maybe we should pay a lot more attention to our sugar IF we feel differences to begin with.  I say that because I think I should have paid attention 30 years ago or even more…  I might have suffered fewer fears and or fluctuations, and I might have done myself a good turn, by learning more about my body’s workings.  Just saying.

Having the heaviest and biggest meals during the day (breakky and lunch), stabilizes the sugar for me and there are no hunger episodes, day or night.  

I understand your comments of thinking being hungry with my spread of meals during the day, but you must also understand that this is just an example from an A type point of view (Seraffa is A type too, hence my post) and I do not have sugar issues.

My meals are big with lots of veggies, the type of rutagaba, pumkin, parsnip,onion ... they fill my plate and then the fish, or meat, or turkey .,, eat that and I do not want to eat nothing else for the rest of the morning.  

Then is lunch, again something similar, with fish, or poultry or beans (never red meat for lunch if I can avoid it, unless there is a special family do, I want to give the likes of lamb lots of hours to digest before bedtime) and again lots of veggies or salad.

That is already two big meals in the day to digest ... I feel very full and satisfy for the whole day ... plus all the water drinking, some juice and some fruit ...

I always look forward to the night time meal, from the point of view of being the easiest one to prepare, after feeding the animals, putting them to bed or attending to the gardens, it is nice to just come in, showers, grab whatever we fancy as a light meal or snack and watch a movie, or interact with forum friends and by 8:00pm or 9:00pm we are usually back in bed.  We do start the day at 4:30 or 5:00am ...

Unless of course we have the kids staying over ... then the sleep time routines may get a crumbling ...

I totally understand your point of view Goldie and I respect your needs for something totally different to what my actual regime is now ... I was just sharing my way of fitting my Swami requirements in my daily routine, trying to give Seraffa the King, Queen and Pauper type of eating she ask examples of ... :)

Yes I totally understand.. it is just that today I had a meal that stuffed me and then on hor later I ate a spoon of potato and a spoon of turkey as if I was starving.. but I do know that the foods for you are way different, but not the three in the morning.. feeling,.. of a drop.. in actauality I have a higher number at that time interesting.. but even more confusing..
