I'm new to this forum and just posted a ? about Digestive Enzymes.  I just figured out how to place my avatar which is A, but I do I need to submit a test to Dr. D'adamo's web site to find out if I am A1 or the other refinements in blood type?

Greetings Patty:

A1 and A2 are blood subtypes. It can be determined using a blood test.

But before you spend money on the test, I would suggest looking at the food plan you are following and seeing if the refinements to your diet from this information would be worth the price of a test.

Both Rh and secretor status affect diet more than A1/A2.

I would pay for these tests first.

Secretor is normally the most important in terms of diet.

Rh is simple & cheap to determine (You can just donate blood -- most blood donation organizations tell you this for free)

Secretor status:

thanks.  I know I am A+   and I am getting up the gumption to pay the $70 for secretor test.  til then, I eat the more careful and "restricted" A diet.

ask your Dr if he can have your subtype checked

most are A1

There's no way to really know unless you get tested. Many people from the Arctic regions of the world Scandanavia, Russia, and Siberia are about 40% A2 in the U.S. about 20% while most others are A1. Asians are more likely A1 than A2 just to give you an idea.

There is a question on the SWAMI profile regarding ethnicity. A1-A2 probability probably plays a role in that question(?).(think)

There is a direct question on SWAMI concerning A subtypes: "Your A1/ A2 Sub Type (Group A and AB):"

In my experience changing this value effects SWAMI recommendations less than changing the value of ethnicity.

If I was wanting to improve SWAMI results, I would pay to have a male sibling test for haplotype (both mitochondrial and Y Chromsome) before spending money on the blood test for a subgroups.

If money is not a concern, one can of course do all the tests.

I wonder what role/influence ethnicity does play, since race doesn't exist on a genetic level. While there is a ??? regarding A1/A2, it's not an easy test to come by. I've done mitochondrial and Y chromosome testing and my SWAMI didn't change at all. My bro summed it up with "We're just boring everyday white people." Hahaha :D

Hi Chrissy!

Good to see you post! I saw Sunnyside post recently, also.
We need to plan our Autumn reunion. ;D I just noticed your age on your Avatar and cannot believe it! You could easily pass for under 30! And definitely not boring! ;)

I am still trying to get that test also.  :-/ The Lab I thought would do it is no longer near us. For now, due to the odds, I am assuming that I am A1. ??)
