Well  in reaching about my dry mouth, bad breath, acid indigestion, nasal cloggage, extended stomach, bloating, and burping, it seems I most likely have a mild/moderate form of GERD.  I've got all the symptoms of that going on right now... so not sure if I have Candida or not.. but I definitely am going to adhere even closer to Swami.  I noticed when I did eat more of the Ghee than recommended, I would get acid reflux (too much fat causes the GERD to activate).    The last couple days my breakfast has had a high degree of fat and my symptoms have increased... so I think I'm on to something here.

I'm not interested in taking Prilosec even though I may take it today to decrease some of my symptoms which currently are awful...

I know that my compulsive overeating of JUNK probably damaged me badly and so now I have to heal from this.  I've been clean from junk and sugar today for 60 days... so now it's a matter of just getting extremely close to my Swami recommendations and continue to heal my gut.

Any suggestions to help control this would be GREATLY appreciated.

Follow your diet is first and foremost.  A mostly beneficial diet will provide the most healing, but the cleaning may be intense...  

I don't know how much cleaning and healing you have to do, but it can take some time when the body is packed full of junk and run down.  

The best we can do is persist on our diet and use any protocols to strengthen systems that are most needy - if we can determine that.

Ok.. just ate a breakfast of:

2 eggs
1 piece of dry teff toast
broccoli cooked with onions in some rice bran oil with agave
1/2 sweet potato (dry)
grapefruit juice
small amount of pineapple/mango jam

that should make my tummy happy.  all Swami indicated Beneficial foods

If by any chance your GERD is caused by H Pylori, the mastic gum in Gastro D will be helpful to
eradicate that bacteria.

How about getting good bacteria?  Are you eating cultured/fermented vegetables?  Taking any
probiotics?

I can't tell from your breakfast if those foods are all beneficials/neutrals or what.  And how about
your genoharmonic combos?  Eating any of those?

Don't blame you about not wanting to use Prilosec, but as a Hunter who is probably going to need
a decent amount of pure animal protein to give your HCL something to break down, I think if this
were me, I'd be focusing on getting adequate protein/vegetables every day and see if that makes
a difference.  Maybe go lighter on juices and fruits for a short while to see if you can find some gut balance.

I've taken pro-biotics for years, currently on a double dose.  I can't do vinegar - it's a black dot.. so fermented foods are out.  I did try some fermented foods with lemon juice but they hurt my tummy..  As I mentioned in my post all of the foods I ate this morning are beneies on my swami.  some diamonds.  Also the juice I drank was cut twice with water so there was hardly any in the glass!    :P  I cut all my juices with either seltzer or water.

I haven't had any acid reflux all morning and I'm not bloated or burping from my meal.  So that's a good sign!

I only ate eggs this morning instead of additional protein, because I eat ALOT of animal protein  throughout the day and I thought I'd cut back a bit.  

my portions on my swami don't allow for meat at every meal.

A dry sweet potato is just a potato without oils, butter or ghee.  I just ate it without all that.

I just realized you've got two threads running and I just read the other one about you taking a medication for a fungal/yeast overgrowth situation....so now confirming that you've got candida,
this is going to take some work on your part to stay vigilant and follow your SWAMI even better
than before.

As much as I'd love to say you can beat this after taking a strong drug to kill off pathogens, what you really need to focus on is making sure you're getting foods that supply good bacteria and maintain a total avoidance of foods that are going to feed candida again.  It takes a lot of focus and will power to avoid indulging in sugary foods....

I had a major issue after a long run of abx when I had Lyme disease.  Took me a long while to find
a way to balance my gut.... and the craving for sweets made me feel like an addict. I can tell I'm
way past having an imbalanced gut because I don't crave carbs in an unnatural way anymore.

I suggest you eat every few hours to make sure you're not craving the wrong foods.  Getting enough
meat and animal protein so you don't feel so much acid reflux. And maybe eat more vegetables so
you aren't eating too much fruit....Do you think the medication caused the GERD or was it a symptom before you took the drug?

Fermented vegetables are made with sea salt and no vinegar.

You probably need to check out old threads on culturing vegetables.  Lots and lots of advice for you
to make your own.

Just to give you a simple suggestion.  I grate carrots and ginger plus chop a few cloves of garlic.
Put everything into a bowl with a few tsps of sea salt.  Use my hands to squish everything together until
I see the veggies have given off liquid.  Take a few minutes...2-3.  After that, take a clean jar with a lid
(or not with a lid but at least have some cheesecloth and a rubberband where you can cover the jar)

I then pack the veggies,liquid and all into the jar.....as tight as I can until the liquid rises above the
veggies.

That's it.  Cap or cover the jar....put it on a plate and leave it in your kitchen....3 days, taste it...It
then gets refrigerated and is fermented, ready to eat.

You can do this with any raw veggie.  If you can't have garlic, then try onion or something you can eat.

But really, either go to youtube, type in "making fermented vegetables" and watch some videos for
instructions.

You can also add some abx capsules to your jar.

Try it....You will find it so easy.  :)

Sorry, I missed reading that all your breakfast foods were benes.  Good for you!  :)  And good to hear you're
feeling better after what you ate for breakfast!~

Hey Chloe... great advice!  

I am under alot of stress right now which is not helping things.. but I DO NOT have cravings anymore for any sugar and junk. they are gone.  

I am 60 days free of eating junk and sugar and i barely eat any grains.  i eat only two extra thin sliced pieces of teff toast approx. every day and very little rice.  very little.

I just quit ghee finally as I am only allowed 1 tsp 3 times a week (I was eating alot more), and i am only eating one black dot now.  but i have flirted with a few items that were either avoids or black dots.  i.e. mayo and mustard on a sandwich.  very small amts now and again but now I am going to cut that out as well.

I wouldn't quit ghee altogether.  It has butyric acid which is great for gut health.  Maybe just try using a little bit.  

However, coconut oil might work for you too.  And it helps kill candida.  If it's on your list.  It might not be.  IDK.

Yah I might treat myself once a week or so on the ghee.  it's very sad but coconut oil is an avoid for me.

i'll try the cultured vegies sometime soon.. thank you.

today I got the digestive enzymes and some Glucosamine Sulfate and some DGL.  so i should be set to really heal my gut.

Dr. D's immediate remedy to acid reflux is the seaweed Fucus vesiculosus (Bladderwrack). Dr. D explains in the book Eat Right 4 Your Type that the H. pylori bacteria within the IG tract, that cause this misery, prefer the specific sugar in the seaweed to the sugar found in the human tissue, and immediately upon feeding them with this seaweed they switch to eat the weed and leave us in peace.

This seaweed is contained in Deflect O (200 mg per serving)

Since I read the above I've been treating my acid reflux successfully with Solgar Kelp capsules. Whenever it flares up I take one or two capsules and the acid reflux disappears. Moreover, BTD almost anulled my acid reflux fits shortly after becoming compliant.

Try to avoid or not take prilosec more than 7 days.  Extended use can make it hard to get off of the med because the stomach will overproduce acid after you stop.  I experienced this, but it may be different for your blood type.  

For me, antihistamines helped just as well or better because i still had normal stomach acid, and now i do not use anything except antihistamines at times when it comes out and gets bad (bad nasal drip into the stomach and irritates my throat and stomach), which isn't too much these days (knock on wood!)

It's definitely great. Dr. D's tip!!!

It says on the bottle: once daily, with a meal.

It surely looks a great idea to take it as preventive remedy, especially before concerts, but I don't know if it works this way. Can't harm!

I take it only as a rescue remedy, when an acid reflux fit attacks me, and then I take 2 capsules, with only lots of water. Actually drinking 2 glasses of water is the first thing I do, then I add the Fucus capsules with water.

I am familiar with that feeling!  Certain oils and just the ways some foods are prepared does that to me no matter what the food is (not near as much now, but i put more good things in my body these days).    

I don't know anything about solgar kelp capsules, but i will read about them and maybe give them a try, or keep them on hand in case i go through a period of those types of painful attacks of acid reflux.  My esophagus closes up.  I do not have  a terribly acidic stomach, or maybe now it is more normal and not out of balance.  I think for me it also has to do with the liver.  When it is strained, this happens.

I've started looking for those in the web, and OOPS!!! Fucus vesiculosus (Bladderwrack) doesn't seem to be around anymore.  >:(  :'( Solgar product is now called North Atlantic Kelp, and NOW specifies other seaweeds on its iodine product.

Last week I took 2 tablets of the NOW iodine product for acid reflux, and it worked too, but a little slower than the good old Solgar capsules, which had an "enormous" quatity of Bladderwrack, 520 mg per capsule.

I am going to search a bit more. Can anybody tell whatever happened to Bladderwrack??  :-/

Perhaps this has to do with the Fukushima disaster?

Ok.. so I will take one 200mg Solgar North Atlantic Kelp Cap with each meal..   maybe that will stave off the acid indigestion and help heal my poor damaged gut.   :-/

The Solgar capsules have 375 mg of weeds per capsule, which contains 200 mcg iodine per capsule.

200 mg of Fucus vesiculosus is the quantity per a Deflect O serving (2 capsules).

Hello BluesSinger, I really apologize that the info I was giving about the market source of Fucus vesiculosus (Bladderwrack) seaweed turned into messy disinformation.

This seaweed, which is recommended by Dr. D in one of his first books, was sold by Solgar in capsules until recently, and I've been taking it successfully during 7 years (!) as a rescue remedy whenever I had a GERD fit. These fits have been horrible, and this seasweed has been appeasing them in NO TIME. These fits had been even more horrible before I began blood type diet, and the minute I began BTD their number suddenly reduced aiming at zero.

Recently for some reason this particular seaweed has vanished from the market. But it is still contained in Dr. D's (DPN) Deflect O! Taken regularly at the recommended dosage, i.e., 2 capsules 3 times daily, Deflect O gives 600 mg Fucus vesiculosus daily.

This particular seaweed is not to be found anywhere else in the market - at least I don't know where.  :-/

If you could consider start taking Deflect O regularly, it would take care not only of your GERD fits, but of your overall health, as this remedy which blocks lectins is vital to promote your gut healing and general health. This is by far more than two birds in one stone.  8)

I just wanted to echo others here by saying your journey has been inspiring! I've been a chronic reflux sufferer on and off for years.

This wonderful way of life fixed that problem with only occasional flare ups when I was  'naughty'. Since I got back from a holiday at home in Australia in December, however, it has been my constant painful companion (worst in the wee hours of the morning - meaning little sleep and lots of fatigue).

After one course of napalm antibiotics and PPI's for H.  Pylori, a permanent prescription for Lansoprazole (which I refused to take), a horridly invasive gastroscopy and biopsy, a further different antibiotic napalm assault for the still present H. Pylori, here I am. I've finally started getting relief by taking back my power. Here's my current regime:

One spoonful of 25+ Active Manuka Honey before breakfast
Ginger Root extract capsule, probiotic (5 billion bacteria), bladderwrack capsule, turmeric root capsule, licorice root capsule - all after breakfast
Two mastic gum capsules before bed

I'm not sure how the mastic capsules are rated, but all the others are diamonds or bennies on my Swami. As long as I stick to this protocol I am symptom free I'm delighted (and oh how much so) to say. I don't plan to take all these supps long-term as some are specifically targeted to obliterate the H. Pylori that I believe is still present. Some of this may not be quite so relevant to you, but I thought I'd share my experiences in case they help you or others. My thoughts are with you as you continue to conquer your challenges.

Thanks Yaeli, I need to use up what I've got already first and then I need to consider my overall supplement plan. It's costing me a fortune. I know there's no price one can place on health, and I just need to rationalise it all and streamline. I really need to trim down to the best of the best in terms of supps.

Yes these are tremendous sums, a very significant chunk of my budget. I'm so happy I am alive and I pay it willingly. Not all of it goes to DPN, I also buy supps at Vitacost, at JHS Mushroom Science, at Herbal Provider, and sometimes at Dragon Herbs.

Yet it is very true, it's important to pay attention to what is truly necessary at the moment and not just to throw money in all directions.

Goldie, thanks I'll give the apple a go. So far though, no reflux in about a week. Have another urea breath test for H. Pylori tomorrow afternoon. I think all my supps are helping and I've started taking 600mg of bladderwrack twice a day (instead of just after breakfast).

Regular tap water can help too perhaps.  It has trace amounts of chlorine that kill off excess harmful bacterias and contains immune boosting organics (bacterial spores and other things) not found in over filtered water.  Also contains minerals that neutralize acid.  

The fresh tap soothes my stomach.  We have hard alkaline water here in south lousiana.

This is just my own theory and opinions.  

I have come to trust tap more than bottled water companies and all of these filters pushed out there.  Also, my fish i keep thrive in pure untreated tap we have here, even the more sensitive species that hail from very clean water sources.
