I had to take an antibiotic for a tooth implant this past week-- I was dreading it knowing that my gut garden would be damaged by it--

I took it for 5 days just couldn't do the 7 days due to severe diarrhea. Thankfully I had purchased two bottles of polyflora just for this purpose. So once I stopped the antibiotic I started the polyflora, with great results within 24 hours. I did add some ara 6 and deflect to the mix as well.

One should take the antibaciotics for the full term as otherwise you create resistant strains which could caouse bigger issues later in life.

Yet, as you had the Polyfloraand and had ara 6 in the house, I would have taken both simultaneous, or started them even before the implant or any surgery. That way you might have prevented the intestinal upset.

Also, it might depend which antibiotic they gave you.  Keep track of which is causing what.

Implants and each tooth root hase a specific relationship to organs, and the prevention of deep tissue infection is more important than the worry about the intestines.  Taking antibiotics  for a tooth that had to be extracted mostlikely already, already had the makings of deep root infection.  Preventing infection damage will protect the teeth on either side and the corresponding organs.

Rinsing/swisching the mouth with water and Peroxide will also be good for a while (six weeks) to release oxygen.., for at least for the weeks in which you may have any discomfort or swelling.

Are you using a water pick?  they are helpful after the crown is on.

Great to hear how well Polyflora worked for you Andrea.....Goes to show you how healthy you must
be to recover from abx so quickly!  :)

How many Polyflora per day did you take?

They did a number on me for months after my dental implants.  I just ended up fighting off a lot of sinus related infections.  Before BTD, I used to get sick a lot and for years on BTD, hardly ever got sick.  In the couple of years involved with getting the 2 implants I got sick more than I had since starting BTD.  I took Polyflora and Deflect (I always do) but maybe not enough.

"In a small but provocative study published in the June 10 issue of the British medical journal BMJ, Dr. Prins and colleagues from nine hospitals suggested that even some cases of pneumonia — a potentially life-threatening disease — could be treated with a three-day course of antibiotics, rather than the conventional 7- to 10-day treatment."

And since mine was preventative not curative I'll bet I could have done even less.

Follow your doctors instructions always! ;)

So, how many Polyflora A did you take to restore your gut?

I agree.....for preventative abx, a week seemed ridiculously long!  Maybe 3 days would have been
plenty.  I think you used good judgement. :)

Thanks Chloe for the vote of confidence. I just did 48 hours and things are much better.

Two in the morning with live cell and deflect and two in the pm with ara6 live cell and deflect.

Added some phytocal A for the bone health.

One thing for sure, the more antibiotics we take the more of a beast they become. I can't even remember the last time I took a round of them. Oh, I do remember taking them for a few days when I was bitten by a tick many years ago. People with heart valve problems need to be extra careful, though. We have a friend who was a wonderful dentist until he had dental work done not knowing he had a valve problem, and he was nearly dead before they finally diagnosed his problem. He was dreadfully disabled and had to quit his practice in him prime. A horrible thing to happen to such a good man.

I wish Dr. D. made deflect without using crab shells. I do take vegetarian Glucosamine - 500mgs. and NAC, though.

Jane, how long did it take after your surgery for the sinus infections to stop? (or did they? )

instead of antibiotics I'd go for bee pollen called propolis... works exactly the same, no problems with your gut flora then and no other side effects ;) ;D...(smarty)(ok)(clap)(hehe) especially as being an A secretor and btw.. I'd go for 4-6 grams daily for a short period of about 6-10 days.... then drop down to 3000mg's daily....
for prevention about 5-10 days.... :D wish you quickest recovery (smarty)
