So excited to see Chocolate is a beneficial since swapping from Teacher to Warrior. But what chocolate?

What do I look for when buying considering cows milk is an avoid ??

Dark (dairy free) chocolate, recommended %-age of cocoa: 72% and up.

Lindt has excellent 100 gr dark chocolate bars of 75% and 85% cocoa.

Vivani organic dark chocolates come in a variety of tastes (with chili, with cranberries, etc) and cocoa %-ages (I think I even saw 100% cocoa in the store, but I don't see it in their website. Anyway, 100% is very bitter, too bitter...)

I buy unsweetened cocoa powder and unsweetened baking chocolate. These are sold in the "baking" aisle of the supermarket, not the "candy" aisle.

I melt the baking chocolate, stir in agave and/or molasses, and let harden. Once I even got fancy and made almond butter cups (like a peanut butter cup, but compliant.) It was a lot of work though, and I haven't bothered to make it again.

I also add cocoa powder to yerba mate, or use it by itself in hot water with sweetener to make hot cocoa, or dissolve in a little hot water then add seltzer and ice for chocolate soda. I've also used the cocoa powder as an ingredient in baking.

I go through a LOT of cocoa powder. It's a staple I always keep on hand. I don't use the baking chocolate as often, as I find it harder to work with. I think I have some in my pantry behind other items we use more often.

I used to buy "loving earth" raw organic 72% cocoa bars sweetened with agave!  (made here in melbourne but available on line or in stores) Either sour cherry & acai or mint & cocoa nibs.... sadly chocolate is now a black dot :'(
They sell other organic products too, not cheap but excellent quality!

I buy the Endangered Species brand.  They have an 88% dark chocolate that I like.  Most of the rest of their dark chocolates are 72% and I buy those occasionally also.
DPN sells dark chocolate through this site.  I don't know if they ship it overseas or if it would be too expensive that way.  
I also buy unsweetened cocoa that I use in recipes.  There's a recipe on Elana Amsterdam's site for brownies made with almond butter, unsweetened cocoa, agave, egg, sea salt, baking soda and chocolate chips that's really good especially if you add extra chocolate chips and undercook it a bit so it's really chocolate-y.

I stopped buying baking blocks because I couldn't find one without substituted fat. Cocoa powder with ghee and agave + vegetable glycerine makes a nice treat, though you have to freeze it to keep it solid.

I keep cocoa pulp coins and sometimes nibble on them, sometimes with dry fruits or a little honey.

I've found similar products (perhaps even that very one?) in the HFS, but WAY too pricey for my budget. I've bought them for special occasions, like my birthday, but found them too sweet for my taste. I've really acquired a taste for non-sweet foods over the past few years.

I found baking chocolate that's just chocolate- natural cocoa butter is the only fat in the product. I think the brand is Baker's, but I have no clue about its availability outside of the USA. I still find the cocoa powder more convenient to use on a regular basis.

I use Equal Exchange cocoa--fair trade certified. Great for baking and it also makes excellent homemade dairy-free hot cocoa. They make a good 71% chocolate bar too. Endangered Species is good as well, though I find it a little sweet for my taste. Lindt makes a range of good dark chocolate bars--70%, 85%, and 90%.

How are you?  Haven't seen you in a while!  The Extra Dark Endangered Species (88%) isn't too sweet.  Unfortunately I LOVE sweets - gotten a little better after all these years (13 or more) on the BTD....but it still rears its ugly head.
I'm at work and just indulged in a couple of Hershey's dark choc. minis....They are too sweet but in a pinch...
I did find this artisanal brand called Raacha or something like that at WFs.  They have a dark choc. with rooibus.  The combination gives it a little bit of a cherry flavor - really good.

Hey Jane :) I'm doing all right, how are you? I understand about wanting sweets, that still plagues me too now and then, but when I give I try to make it at least a semi-compliant sweet, which makes me feel a bit less guilty :) The chocolate with rooibos sounds good, I'll look for it.

A little bit of chocolate is the only treat I get and I've tried several different types.  I too feel that Lindt is the best flavor.  I doubt it's the best for you.  But I don't eat a lot of it at one sitting.  

I also get a company called "Divine" and it is really good.  Bolder flavor but good.  There have been some others.  The rainforest with mint is good.  Aaaaaa.  Scharfenberger.   But yeah, I don't like to go below 70.  I used to go darker, but I prefer something the 70 range at this point.
