Just trying to be proactive.
I felt really good last week when I started the Type 0 program. Not a huge stray from my normal way of eating.
I learned that I am really allergic to wheat and dairy --makes me foggy.
I know, being a woman, that there are days in the month were I am going to feel like some chocolate or candy. No fruit or glass of wate will squash that craving. I"ve tried on previous diets.
Any ideas on sweet snacks or some food that will squash the sweet craving?

Dr. D. says that quite often cravings for sweets is a need for protein.  My suggestion is to try eating a beneficial protein when this craving "attacks" and see if you can relieve it this way.

If that doesn't work after several attempts, I would make some beneficial dessert to use as a curb.

For most people chocolate/cocoa are rated as neutral foods it is the milk and sugar that create problems for most folks.

I combine cocoa with black beans and make various products (brownies, cookies, ...) with the combination.

If black beans do not appeal, others do different things.

My chocolate has 3-4 tablespoons of organic cocoa powder, and the same of organic carob powder (gives the chocolate a milder flavour and somewhat caramel hint). I mix in about a tablespoon of butter (haven't tried ghee, but can't see why that wouldn't work) and a tablespoon of coconut oil, then enough agave to taste. The food processor makes short work of it. Refrigeration makes it more solid, although not completely, but it is creamy-tasting and delicious.

If I were to use ghee, I would probably add a touch of salt - brings out the sweetness. Or if you can have coconut oil, why not try it with just that instead of butter or ghee.

Beneficials on my list like figs and goji berries are good enough to sidetrack my cravings. Dates are neutrals for me, and they also do the trick.
Try making yourself a fruit crumble with stewed apples and cinnamon, and a bit of macadamia nut and oatmeal crumble on the top (I whizz my macadamias and oats in the thermomix - quick and easy).

I agree with the need for protein.  Once I increased my protein and added magnesium supplements, I find myself not craving sugar or sweets anymore.  I haven't craved chocolate for almost two years.

I do this in supplementing with MAP the 8 aminos we really are in need of and no cravings anymore since  :D

When I'm craving chocolate, I either make hot cocoa or chocolate soda.

Hot cocoa: 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder and 1 teaspoon molasses in a cup of hot water, maybe with a little ghee or almond milk added for extra creaminess. Or I might brew a cup of peppermint tea, then add the cocoa powder and agave.

Chocolate soda: 1 tablespoon cocoa powder and 1 teaspoon molasses dissolved in a little bit of hot water. Add ice and unsweetened seltzer.

Either one of these is consumed after I've had adequate protein and veggies and still "want chocolate." Neither is satisfying if I'm actually hungry when I consume it- but completely satisfying when I'm not hungry anymore but still craving chocolate. It's either dessert or a mid-afternoon snack.

when i am really craving something sweet, i mix in about a Tbs of carob powder with about 1T almond butter, mix and eat. it is sweet enough to satisfy that chocolate need and reading the above comments, i guess gives me that protein boost.

well darn.. the only thing that I can't have in the Brownie Recipe is this:

1-1/2 cup (granulated) instant coffee  and I'm gluten sensitive..

suggestions for a substitute?

Molasses has a rich, dark taste. Try substituting some molasses for part of the agave called for, and omit the powdered coffee-flavored stuff.

There are non-coffee drinks--chicory, some others in the allergy-free sections in health food stores (or try the web).  Not sure whether you can have it, but the technique would be to make a strong cup of it, and cook it down to give a bitterish strong almost syrupy amount and substitute for part of the liquid in a recipe.  If no liquid, see whether you can add a teaspoon or so.

I thought I read in the book Eat Right for your Type -- that type Os can have a moderate amount of chocolate and sugar? When you have a bad craving, after eating some protein -- why not indulge in some lovely Perugina Dark Chocolate?

just wanted to mention that my cravings for sweets seems to be related to lack of sleep.  There's another thread that I started that contains recommendations for a nearly compliant chocolate bar.  The title has the words "chocolate" and "milkfat" in it.

A lot of type O's have written in the past that they keep cans of red salmon in the house and eat some when cravings for sweets hit them.  They say that it works.  :)

Only to the question of sugar cravings.. try a tea spoon of extra light olive oil and see if it works.. ... it should not be mixed with other tasty foods to work in the brain.. it works in 10 minutes most times.

I am 'sugar sensitive', and have found that any sugar makes me want more.  I usually fall off the wagon when I am at a party or reception, and all they have are cookies.  After I have something with sugar, I just want more and more - even if I've already had dinner.  I also fall off the wagon when depressed or stressed.  If it is early enough in the day, I take another Prozac.

I know that the BTD should help me get off of the Prozac, but I need to get off the sugar first.  I've always felt better when I'm sugar free, but I've struggled with this for years.  No, decades.

Thanks for the olive oil and salmon suggestions.  I'll definitely try them :)

It seems that the following verse was written specifically for Sweet Tooth:

"Sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him." (Genesis, 4, 7)

Remains ever true! Always timely.

When I began BTD, 7 and something years ago, I was working in a hospital (as a secretary). Before BTD I used to have every morning (i.e., 5 times a week) one espresso longo and a croissant. First thing to cut off then was the croissant, and the coffee I sent away 4 months later. BUT, for a very long time after that,  I'd go almost every morning by the coffee cart, or enter the cafeteria, stand there in front of the cakes display for like 3 minutes (!), actually watch the croissants, and visualize what is going to happen when I take one into my mouth (= few seconds of delight followed by utter misery throughout the rest of my IG tract).  I was utterly physically grieving the parting: it surely was a mourning ritual. That much I used to love it.

Todate I still regard croissant a genius invention. Well, some satanic device, to be honest. :'( :'( :'(  (= who wants to be honest when offered a croissant).

These days I have a similar struggle with dates (swami neutral) and dried apricots (swami diamond). I must watch myself with 70 eyes not to take more than 1-2 pieces a day, and still fail too often! (naughty) (pray) (sunny)
