I am trying to help a friend who has been diagnosed today with osteoarthritis.

pretty clear what to do but always keen to get other peoples ideas.

Blood type O +, mid forties female, small frame, short, terrible hip and back pain.

but also upper leg. loves wheat. not that keen on dairy.

not that keen on red meat but loves fish.

looks very young for her age. does a fair amount of walking.

at a guess explorer.

I believe I read that all forms of arthritis are linked to 'leaky gut syndrome'.  It may have been stated in Dr. D's book on arthritis...??

Fixing the gut is always a good place to start solving any health issue I have read.

Does she eat a lot of potatoes?  They are supposed to be related to arthritis in Os.
Arthritis does not run in my family, but due to eating lots of potatoes for years, I noticed in my early 50s that my knees crackled(no pain) when I bent down. After no potatoes for several months, that went away.
I avoided them for several years, but more recently eat them when out or traveling. It is almost impossible to get satisfying food when traveling, so I added spuds! They also have a substance that helps me sleep better, too. I think it helped to avoid them all those years & if I start crackling again, I'll have to reassess the occasional cheating!

what?  leaky gut syndrome?  I never heard of this connection!

My husband has arthritis, which is getting worse. I have been doing a lot of reading lately on the subject. Some references say leaky gut could be a factor. Some references say avoid the night shade foods ... white potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, and eggplant. Some references say avoid the common allergens for a period of time, esp. corn, wheat, eggs, dairy, pork, nuts,etc. After you feel better, add the foods back one at a time and see how you feel. For 2 weeks he avoided the nightshades and wheat, and cut way back on some other foods. That Didn't help. Now we are going to avoid the things on the common allergy list. I'm thinking he will have to go for blood tests to see what is causing inflammation in his body, such as the IgG test.

I was wondering about this also. My husband has hip and upper thigh pain and his flexibility is limited. He has the hardest time putting on and tying his shoes. His blood type is B+ like me, and he eats what I eat, then eats everything else afterwards. I managed to get him to avoid chicken for a month, and last night he ate hot wings. Today,  he has been complaining that his upper thigh and hip are aching more than normal. Im going to research leaky gut.

I would get her the Arthritis book, and encourage her to either follow the diet in that particular book or go for  a SWAMI.

I have issues with autoimmune reactions whenever I eat avoids..

So if the person wishes to keep eating the same things, no changes should be expected.  Giving the O dioet a one week try, will show imflammation go away , enough so that future decisions should be easy.  There is no getting away from what is wrong with us, diet is the 96% answer.  I have posted on my situations many times, and I have not changed those findings even tough I have tested my 'eating' mis-deeds many time and always feel over night miseries..

We are that much exposed to environment toxicity, including food toxicity, that if we are 100% aware of it, there's a danger that we won't be able to sleep a wink from worrying and get ill just from the fatigue!

My understanding is that blood type O do not have a choice in the matter.

If you like, they (we) are doomed to red meat, but it doesn't matter what way you put it. It doesn't matter, as long as you have a few times a week (3? 4? 5?), say, a rare-medium-rare entrecote steak. For starters. you immediately get better.

all maladies in the endings with itis are of inflammatory issues... and triggered by invadors or lacks of.... ??) :-/  if you understand how it came f.e. the name of osteoporose.... it means *bones with little holes* so far this is due to lacks of minerals....it doesn'0t need hardenings of the bones with calcium but gentle help for osteblasts and clast to come along with silicea;)..... the todays medicine are great inventors of names and sicknesses... the best also to be seen and for me very(scared)(scared) became the nomenclatur of so called *psychatric* specialities which were invented to get more possibilities to manipulate the whole mankind :-/

I think wheat is a major problem in cases of osteoarthritis.  I wish I had more information on this, but I read something which I think came from Dr. D.  Our bodies naturally have some substance (enzyme? ) that protects the joints from breaking down.  Something in wheat prevents our bodies from making or using this naturally occurring property from preserving the joints.  

If anyone knows more accurate detail on this, please share.  :)

So glad I found this thread & great comment Victoria!! The man above, sounds just like my Hunter husband's problems (except my Mr P is obviously an O)
While he embraces most things BT and knows that cutting out wheat and other avoids is the answer, he is not 100% committed yet! Nor is he convinced that he can't still indulge several times a week, or when traveling, when he has to eat out!!
He loves bread, hot chips/any potato dishes, cornflakes, chocolate and cakes and pastries... I have managed to get him to drink cider rather than beer, but he is finally acknowledging that he really needs to cut out avoids more, if he doesn't want to end up with the arthritis which has crippled his Dad!!
I am even suspicious that tomatoes (which I can't eat!) may not be helping his hip & thigh pain either, as since I stopped putting them in his salads, things do seem to be improving slightly... At least he is now determined to beat this and has even committed to giving up chocolate??!!
