Hi

I have been here before, went off track followed a few other fad diets that didnt work well for me so I am back. I tried the Raw Juicing for a while and that really didn't agree with me which brought me back to BTD as I know A+ dont do well on raw and after my experience I believe this to be true.  

I have Swami, do not know if I am a nonnie or not.  From my Swami I am A+ 40% Teacher.  I am unsure and dont feel confident I have all the correct information, I had to do it by myself, there is noone in Western Australia who I can see.  I did the measurements by myself and still a little unsure they are 100%.  When I have a spare half hour I am planning on watching the link to make sure I am doing all the measurements correct again.

I have seen many Naturopaths and Kinesiologist to test for food intolerances and so many of my beneficial foods I was advised against and foods on my avoids I was told were ok, like Bananas I was told suited me, whereas apples (beneficial) I was told to stay away from.   Alot of beneficial foods dont seem to agree with me. I dont do well with nuts or beneficial beans.  Which makes it hard to find foods that I can eat, sometimes I get a little scared of eating anything.

I am finding I am becoming more intolerant to more foods and my IBS and axiety seems to get worse.  Which is a vicious circle, its a catch22, food intolerances cause anxiety and IBS symptoms and anxiety causes IBS.  

At the end of the day nothing else has worked so I think its time I give Swami 100% effort.  I dont eat red meat or tomatoes, or dairy milk/yoghurts.  I have avoided these since I first bought Swami over a year ago.

I also find some of this confussing when reading message boards there is alot of technical conversations that make no sense to me.   I guess it will all take time.

Is it necessary to get the secretor testing done ? how much is this and where can this be done?  is there anything else I should do when starting out ?

Hi Aussie!  I haven't had a secretor test so I(try) not to eat avoid foods for both secretor and nonsecretor.  If I knew my secretor status it would free up some avoids for me and I could eat them.  Like if I'm a nonsecretor I could eat mushrooms, avocadoes, and pinto beans...some would even be beneficial!  And if I'm a secretor I can have some milk products, apples, dates, sugar, cider vinegar, and other things without worry.  I think a secretor test would be very helpful.

You can also run SWAMI as a non-secretor and see how that would change your food lists. Then you can decide how important the secretor testing is. Maybe it won't make much difference. Maybe it will change the food lists greatly. Maybe the nonnie food lists will make more intuitive sense to you, and you may choose to follow that version of SWAMI until you can get the testing done (or you may choose to follow that and not do the testing at all.)

Ideal is certainly to get the test done and know for sure. But if it's hard to obtain the test, this is another way to get some information.

Hi Aussie,  are you due for a blood work anytime soon?  In Australia we can include the Lewis test(which is an alternative to finding the secretor status) and A1A2 subtype tests (good to know if you are an A to further personalized your Swami) with our annual bloodwork, provided your doctor is willing to include it and it does not cost anything extra.  Most people I know around here have been able to do that without hassle.

But, like Lola said, take it one day at a time and if you do not have  total info, do the best you can with what you have ... experiment a bit, taking notice of reactions and give yourself time ... you are into the sure path here ... Welcome!

Slow and steady.  Don't expect lots of changes in a short period of time. Your gut probably needs to heal, and that will take some time.

Thanks everyone, thats great to know Christina, I will ask for those test with my GP next visit.  I am thinking of going to my GP soon for some blood test I have high CRP levels so I want to monitor them.  Be good to get the test done soon so I can see how things go on the diet.  

Today was a good day, I stuck to it 100% only eating simple foods as I do believe my gut has a lot of healing to do.   Brown rice salad with Beneficial veggies and some chicken and veg soup.    I think I will keep in simple and one day at at time :)

Did you used to be a B?  I mean to say, did your nametag used to say B?  

I think getting your secretor status might help a good bit too.  If you can swing it.  It changes the lists quite a bit for some people if you're a nonnie. And it's a big piece of a puzzle into what genotype you are and what you might struggle with.  

One day at a time, like Lola said.  I know how you feel about being afraid to eat.  But food is good.  You just need to figure out what works for you.  It takes time.

Thanks no never B. I really am struggling as I am intolerant to most salicylates and strict gluten free diet.  So many of my benificials and allowed foods are high salicylates :( I am starting a food diary today and seeing a naturopath next week.  I am not able to find a naturopath that deals with swami in Western Australia.

Instead of using SWAMI Xpress, you may want to find someone who does SWAMI GenoType remotely.

I think I heard that Dr. Nash's practice has done this in the past. There are others as well. I do not remember them off the top of my head.

In the SWAMI GenoType product, there is a setting to strongly deemphasize foods high in Salycylic acid.  This does not eliminate the foods entirely but they are rated lower.




Perhaps an approach in the mean time would be to get a list of foods low in salicylates and check this list with your swami list and see which of the low salicylates foods rate well in SWAMI Xpress.
