OK, so based on the fact that O's are known for HIGH stomach acid and I happen to have low acid, isn't SWAMI assuming it's high and foods are rated accordingly? How does it know I have low acid? I know it supposed to balance it but for instance, seltzer, which I was drinking as a diamond actually lowers gastric juices which does not help with low acid. I'm not sure what to think. I'm now taking HCL but as an avid follower of my diamond foods, I'm not sure if they're based on me having high acid.

What test did you have of your acid levels?

Low stomach acid may contribute to how you answered other questions like "Hx of bowel or digestive disease" The diet is adjusted based on how you answer questions.

Do you have some ideas about why you are low in stomach acid, perhaps diet could be adjusted to increase acid levels?  (May already be done for you in SWAMI, but below are some ideas of things to adjust in diet to restore normal acid levels.

These things sometimes contribute to low acid levels.

They will not all apply in your case, but i am listing to give you some ideas:

Eating processed foods
Eating fast foods
Refined sugar
Lack of sufficient minerals in the daily diet
Excess carbohydrate consumption
Poor food combining
Zinc deficiency
B vitamin deficiency (especially thiamine)
Chronic illness
Drinking water with meals (Ice water may be worse)
Age. As you get older, stomach acid production tends to decrease
Anti-acid use
Prescription drugs
Some supplements
Candida

Thanks Csharp.
I haven't eaten fast or processed foods in eons, nor carbs (I'm veggies only for carbs), no sugar,no chronic illness (potential for blood sugar but very much under control with diet), I only combine pure good proteins with green veggies and healthy fats,no anti acids or drugs, I only take b, d, magnesium and HCL now but eat well and nutritious, no anti acids and candida spit test is pretty good and I only sip warm water throughout the day. I guess that leaves old,LOL but I'm 48.
I was drinking 2 or 3 seltzers a day for about a year. I'm thinking that may have something to do with it. I don't eat a ton of protein, 2 oz 3 or 4x a day with veggies. That may not prompt enough acid too. I did tick digestive and menopause and adhere to SWAMI VERY well. I eat the same type foods everyday.I was however on Nexium for years years ago and I KNOW that screwed me up terribly but here I am still with low acid. 5 years ago I had a major stomach thing right after they upped my Nexium to 40mg. I feel really good but I just wondered if SWAMI foods might be for higher acids as O's tend to be.

This acid thing is too tricky for me...

What do you eat every day?...... make a list - the answer is there!

When I was having stomach pain for 32 years I was on every pill and diet then.. all mistakenly suggested... nothing helped... eating right fixed it.. (milk/dairy)

Then I added a food on my new food list and promptly developed new reflux issues.

Then I stopped eating one food I had added and .. presto: no more noticeable reflux..  (almonds)

The body is much to sensitive for me to worry about acid.. I do not know if I had low or high anything- for milk or almonds, but when people here said, stop eating almonds, or peel them, I listened...   I am fine.

Where I would still adjust some food ideas is about going to the bathroom... but the ideas are not forthcoming, so far, so I just eat as I know I should with Beneficials or Diamonds.. and avoid foods that would make it worse (avoids.)  As for water retention, same thing, but occasionally a water pill is needed.

I eat pretty much the same things, lettuce, protein  and olive oil salads with a tich little onion and artichoke. Broc, asparagus and bok choy. Occasionally nuts or seeds. Pretty simple. I really don't get reflux, I just don't go to the bathroom with any regularity or consistancy, that's my issue. I've changed my entire diet thousands of times, more or less of this or that and nothing changes unless I eat more fiber, then it's days to get things moving again. I've triede it all

Taking some 1 TBS ARA-6 mixed in water at bedtime might help quite a bit
