Weird. I am not sure what is going on... but I feel really bloated today and not with it.

I did not have gluten or dairy, so I know that is not it.

I had 2 egg, veggies for breakfast.
large salad with a can of tuna for lunch and then same thing for dinner. Lots of veggies.

Seriously, is it possible that I did not eat enough? I also did 2 hours at the gym last night. But I tried some grass fed beef and felt gross afterwards... I think I ate too late and then woke up feeling too full. Perhaps, it was not good for my digestive system.

Hmmm... that was today. Typically, I eat more carrots, peppers but I just felt shaky after eating alot of carbs.

I need balance, though. I could have bought some fruit, but we know how that goes.

I don't do well with canned tuna and don't know why as it's a neutral on the BTD and I make sure the ingredients are only tuna, water, and salt.  I don't know if I get bloated but I do feel icky.  Canned chicken too but not as bad.

I would think in a different direction than fruit.  How about vegetables, such as jerusalem artichoke, parsnip, pumpkin, rutabaga, sweet potato, turnip, string beans or peas?

Then, there are garbanzo beans, great northern beans, lima beans, pine nuts, sesame butter (tahini), and sesame seeds, flax and chia seeds, almond butter.

These are all from the Superfood and Diamond categories in the Genotype book and could help you balance your diet of protein and salad.

Tuna can cause bloating in some people.

TOO MANY veggies cause trouble for me. I do very well with very few carbs and I definately eat my veggies but too many or TOO BIG of a meal never works. That's why I eat evry 3.5-4 hours 3-4x a day but they are smaller meals, like an appetizer plate and chewing your veggies alot is also very important for me.But that's just me..

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback. I wonder about the tuna now... I have only been eating the kind with no soy, just tuna, water. However, seems like I am not doing too well on digesting it. On the other hand, I am eating more veggies than before, so it might need time to adjust.

V- thanks for the thoughts. Beans are not good for me at all! This much I know.

However, the parsnips, artichokes, chia seeds, more broccoli might help.

Policy- I drink like 3-4 liters of water a day. No way can I be dehyrated!!!:)

Good point. I am considering buying a ninja chopper so I make sure my veggies are being digested properly.

Little meals work for me as well or at least moderate size!

This isn't entirely true...  If the electrolyte (sodium / potassium) balance is off, you may not be using the water you are drinking, therefore, you MAY be dehydrated at a cellular level.  

I get this way if I don't drink grapefruit juice on hot days.  I can drink water but still feel parched, but once I drink some grapefruit juice, I start utilizing the water I drank and feel much better.

There are several reasons to retain water...  

Again, it can be related to sodium / potassium balance, but also may be that the kidneys are sluggish at the time...  
It may be that your diet is changing and the gut hasn't caught up with all of the changes, etc...

I can't tell from this far away...  LOL.

Right. I think it is more about me letting my body catch up ot the changes. Also, I need to work on being mindful that what worked for me 8 years ago when I started this lifetsyle, may not work now.

What I do know: low/moderate carb works best for me
Chick doesnt sit well at all. Fish and grass fed beef sparingly seem to be ok

It appears my portions need to be reduced but not too much. It is all about balance.

I was grain free ( celiac) for so long, but lately I might need some rice or quinoa? Hmm...

Well, I would take a trip to CA in a heartbeat!! but school is number one....lol.. That being said, once I graduate, I am off to San Diego!

Few agree I'm afraid but I think 3-4 litres of water is way too much.

assuming you eat fruit and veg and decent food, which it sounds like you are. I would only drink 3-4 glasses of water and that would include green tea, and my glass of water with lemon in the morning.

one of my meals everyday is a soup of some kind also.


perhaps you could try drinking less for a few days and see how you feel.

the recommended amount of water required by the average human body is only 56 oz or something like that and includes water from food, veg, meat fruit etc. example meat is around 50 % water.

it's in the Merck manual....

I agree PC, too much water always bloats me, especially cold water. I sip room temp or warma all day. Some of my worst days were trying to chug all that water. Drinking with meals too...

It's my understanding that too much water can also dilute your digestive processes, causing bloating (among other problems). Or is this only an issue for A's and AB's?

Too much water severely dilutes the digestive enzymes, making digestion very inefficient.

This is going to be an issue because I am addicted to it in many ways... I use as a tool to not eat as much. Hmm..

Sounds like a gut flora issue-- a breath hydrogen test might be a good idea.

I had bloating and I burped after everything I ate. My ND said it could be yeast overgrowth and she recommended taking caprylic acid and no sweets nor high carbs for a month as a test, because sugar feeds yeast. It's been working. No more bloating nor burping.

.I don't know anyone who can eat unlimited quantities of whatever they want without issue no matter what their 'gut flora' is. I understand gut flora can be a big issue but there certainlyare many other things that can cause bloating, such as too much liquid, wrong foods, too much food and the list is endless. Gut flora could be an issue for Marjorie but we know that can't be fixede over night so I'm thinking there are many things she can try that will help overnight.....

Gut flora first-- then you can deal with the other issues if you want-- ;)  Might be a case of things dying off that cause the bloating as she eats more veggies-- time will tell.

Gut flora is the underlying issue here. Going round and round will not help her but if she fixes the flora-- aaaahhh now she will feel better.

it is Ok I understand the need to try a  load of things, but many of them can make people more obsessed and crazy over everything they ingest.

I still have my fingers crossed, but this Jarrow enzyme that C Sharp recommended seems to be doing the trick for helping me digest these beans! I don't have all that bloating, etc., that so many seem to have, but these beans have been driving me nuts! I am with you about getting our stomachs "fixed" ASAP! Mine has served me very well since I got rid of corn, beef, etc., EXCEPT for these beans!

Of course, I already knew several other things I couldn't eat long before I knew about Dr. D. - such as milk products and ordinary bread. Since I was a teenager I had never eaten a sandwich with more than a half slice of bread. I just knew that I felt more comfortable eating them that way. Now I have found much more delicious things to make a sandwich occasionally!) (smile)

Healthy gut flora is really the bottom line in healthy digestion.  Without it, everything else is like putting bandaids on a hole in the dam.

Even in a garden, without healthy microorganisms, it doesn't matter how much dirt you have, how much the sun shines, how much you water the plants - they won't thrive.

Getting a steady dose of Polyflora O in Marjorie's gut might be a very pleasant surprise for her.

I dont think it is candida over yeast overgrowth... I hardly eat any sugar. we are talking under 50 grams of carbs per day... come on now? This is not a sugar issue.

I do think that eating too many nightshades might make it worse.

food- definitely not going to eat the hummus! I think that made me bloated big time.

Today, I had an intense workout which I love and not going to stop-- then had a salad with half can of wild salmon, and a little bit of chicken... i know i said I would try not to eat chicken, but it was so yummy.

I am tired, but I do think that might have to do with chicken.

well-- just going to take one day at a time. lots of broccoli too:)

I know how important gut flora is but it's not something that can be fixed overnight, so some band aids for now might help. Of course we are all trying to fix our guts, that's why alot of us are here but it's also not as simple as popping a pill, one has to do the work, which is eating the right foods in the right quantities at the right time, etc for EACH individual. Taking a probiotic isn't going to solve it all if we don't eat the foods we digest and/ or eat them in the wrong quantities or at the wrong times, etc. I love my SWAMI but there are definately diamond foods that don't agree with me.I eliminate them and all the discomfort goes away. Everyones digestive systems are very different and that's where individuality and listening to your own body comes in. Though SWAMI is well worth every penny, it still needs to be tweaked. The amount of carbs I'm allowed are ridiculous for someone with blood sugar problems so I have eliminated fruit, juices and grains. They were never good for me, even when I was young. My point is, though we all need to constantly work on gut flora there are many things we can do to help that, like cooking fruit or avoiding it and not eating things that don't work for our own systems, not drinking too much water around meals etc, so maybe Marjorie could work on those for now as well.

I totally agree with you here, Mother. When we had the other diets, and everyone knew what everyone else was "supposed" to eat, it caused a lot of friction when people started telling other people what all they should be eating, and it didn't matter whether it was bothering them or not. Thank goodness, we are delivered from most of that stuff now. Marjorie is working on a lot of different fronts right now about her health, besides everything else. Considering all that, I think she is doing pretty well. At least she is able to keep going! I remember only too well when I started taking probiotics the first time, I thought I was going to lose my mind with the worst headache I had ever had in my life! I was literally walking the floor. It was impossible to even THINK about food, let alone try to fix anything to eat! Eventually, things leveled out, and I was able to construct meals that were healthy. I have been taking probiotics for many years. Never missed a day since I took that first one.

But don't get me wrong, I know that Victoria is one of the smartest people around and has helped untold numbers of people! I am using several products she has recommended right now that I would be ready to fight for almost if I thought I couldn't get any more!

Just one other thought, maybe Marjorie's body is begging for a good cleaning out. I wonder if that would have helped me when I was going through all that initial suffering!

Marjorie is doing a great job, especially all things considered. And Victoria certainly is a wealth of wonderful knowledge. I believe evryone is just offering up things that they have found works for them and hopefully may work for her too. I had been told over and over that O's can't eat too much meat of fat, well yes, they sure can. Beef does not sit nearly as well with me as lamb, elk or venison and I don't need them often, only 3 or 4 meals a week and  I need more fish. Chicken is a bennie on SWAMI but not in my gut. I think everyone offering there ideas gives Marjorie a lot of different things to try for herself. Sometimes we get in a rut and some simple thing makes all the difference. For me, eating small 4x a day and cutting way back on beef helped a lot. She has to listen to her own body but everyones ideas will give her things to try. I also hear "eat alot of this or that", so I did-bad. Now I eat them often but not alot. That type of thing. She will figure it out and this community should be able to help. BTW, I never meant to suggest she shouldn't take probiotics if she wanted to, just that other things may need to change as well.

This is very true.  Generally, we all suggest either things that have worked well for us, or things that we have good reason to believe will be appropriate for someone else.  And ideally, when any of us recommend something, we never intend to come across as negating something another person has suggested.

Ladies--

I appreciate all of your thoughts, feedback and help so much. I think my body is changing, and letting nature take it course will help.

yes, different options help however, in the long run, I will need to listen to myself. However, when I have been dealing with eating disorder, stress of school and just pure isolation of a phd program... I get hung up on what is "suppose" or "should" be. At least I am aware of it, and thanks for the encouragement. I wont give up on my health.

This is the healthiest I have been in terms of psychology with regards to weight and following some guidelines. It is who I am, I have spoken to others about having some structure when recovering from ED and it helps alot if it is the right structure.

Everyone has shared great thoughts, but I have to admit, smaller portions and eating more frequently seems to be the best option. Looking back, I was most content, at peace and focused with this lifestyle. now, I just have to implement it back into my life with my new school schedule.

I am going to look at this as an opportunity to PLAN and have fun with it as much as I can.

For me, I need simple, easy to prepare meals. I get anxiety in the kitchen (and start freaking out about what to eat or cook or make) not because I will eat too much but I get overwhelmed.

Great attitude Marjorie,
Just for now, for a week or two, if you love TJ's salmon and cod, just plan on salmon salads for breakfast and lunch (and snack/ another meal) and cod with salmon and broccoli or whatever veg for dinner. Eat that everyday for a few weeks. That will do two things, take out the guess work of trying to figure out what to eat AND act as an elimination diet.Nothing wrong with those foods, I could eat them everyday, and often do. Then as you add foods back in, you can look for reactions. If your body craves red meat or poultry in the mean time, switch out a meal and see how you do. I know when I need red meat so I eat it. Variety is good but sometimes too much can send us out on the wrong path and we don't know what's causing what reactions. For a few weeks, simplicity might help you figure things out.

Just keep in mind that this supplement is available in case cutting back on water doesn't help, or doesn't help enough.
