Can someone explain in simple, not scientific, language why kefir is an avoid for O nonnies?  I believe it and I don't eat it, but I have a hard time explaining to my friends who are all making and eating their own kefir that it is an avoid for me.

flocculates serum -- Causes your blood cells to stick together.

precipitates serum protein -- Proteins in your blood come together and instead of staying nicely suspended the proteins fall out of the solution. If you had a beverage in the glass, you essentially have a bunch of water on the top and some solids that are sitting at the bottom of the glass.

We don't have a glass-but blood flowing in vessels. So flocculation and precipitations we have a bunch of little globs separated from the fluid.

So your heart is going to try to push around the fluid and the globs. But the globs and junk are getting caught up on each other and the walls of your arteries and veins.

The whole blood system does not work well with globs instead of smooth liquid.

Metabolic inhibitor-Interferes with normal operations of the body. So the body does not work as well as it would without this substance.

Thank you, C sharp!  I do believe in this way of eating so much!  Now can you explain what those of us who cannot have kefir and yogurt can eat to give us probiotics.  I guess we are just stuck with pills!

I explain to friends "I do so poorly on dairy products that I can't even tolerate kefir." I find that easier than getting into all the science behind it. I ferment beets into beet kvass and drink some almost every day. I used a polyflora O capsule to start the first batch, then I use a little from the old batch to start the next one.

I've also made a fermented  carrot-ginger slaw in the past. We enjoyed it, but I never got into the habit of making it regularly.

Oh my, I never thought of fermenting vegetables.  I never cared for beets.  What else can one ferment?

i was just going to ask if anyone has frozen yogurt by red mango. i have not tried it, but my friends keep telling me it is ok because lactose intolerant people can have it.

something about having probiotics, but i think i was using my selective listening skills:)

Red mango frozen yogurts contain milk like othe rfrozen yogurts. Red Mango's frozen yogurt contains GanedenBC30® (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086), as the probiotic. Other frozen yogurts will contain other probiotics, which depending on how they are processed may no longer be "active".

A lot of people don't understand the difference  between "lactose intolerance," "milk protein allergy" and "generalized not doing well on dairy."

That particular kind of frozen yogurt may well be fine for most people with lactose intolerance, if the produce is low in lactose and/or high in probiotics to help digest the lactose (milk sugar.) It's not, however, acceptable for those with milk allergies, or  for people on the O diet (especially O nonnies!) It's not lactose intolerance (although some O nonnies are lactose intolerant too) and it's not necessarily a true allergy. But we just don't do well on most dairy products.

It's much more subtle and complex than that- because most O nonnies can have a few kinds of dairy on GTD or SWAMI. Most of us O nonnie Gatherers seem to have quark cheese as a beneficial, so we're not allergic to milk per say.

It's probably easiest to say "I don't do well on milk or sugar, and frozen yogurt has both."
