Hi

So, I am a little frustrated to be honest. I just do not understand why I am gaining weight regardlesss of what I eat. I am going to try the supplements, but at this point, I dont know what is going on.

I am striving to get to 115 again because at least I felt ok then, but righ tnow, I feel like a big fat cow...

I really do not care about the number, but feeling good is most important to me. I just dont feel "light " and energized like I did before and I know it has to do with gaining weight.

any thoughts to trigger my body back into a good state?

I could go low carb and just eat the beef, but somehow, I feel like it backfires on me.

I personally think that stress is a big part of your current problem. You can't lose the weight while your cortisone levels are always so high. And I'm not sure how you'd go about reducing stress when there are some real stressors in your life right now.

I also wonder if eating too little at times is messing up your metabolism.

Marjorie I feel for you!! How far above 115 are you now & when were you last there? Just wondering if perimenopausal symptoms (hormonal changes) as well as all that stress are causing problems?

I don't blame you. I have yet to get it off. As time goes on I become less enthused. But I've never been a healthy weight, not since I was around 5 years old.

It seems some people have to gain some weight. If I was blood type O, I wouldn't be worried about weight loss at all since you get to play an active roll. I'd say eat more good stuff, exercise harder (neither work for me).

Cortisol levels can play an important part in your weight struggle, make sure they are within normal ranges. Eating too little CAN make you gain weight. How is your fiber intake? How is your prebiotic intake? How is your exercise level? What is your body composition ( lean body weight vs. fat ), please see a professional to have this determined. If your body comp. is good, stop worrying, if your fat % is high, you have some goals to reach. If, however, your body fat% is within normal ranges you won't be doing yourself any favors by losing weight.

I know that I am alone and pretty much, I think that is why I think so much about my weight.  Seriously, bottom line is NOONE cares about what happens to me but I need to accept this and just move on. My family doesn't even reach out, so I guess I am running this race alone.

Today is the 13 yr death of my dad. He was my best friend and I am sad that noone in my family even reached out to see how I was doing after knowing this is an important day for me.

I hope things get better as I move through this phd program. One thing for sure is that I def still think I need to start focusing more on the positives and all the things I do have.

I am so tired of analyzing what to eat for heavens sake.

Fiber is good. Ordering my probiotic tomorrow. I workout about 5 times a week. I dont even know what my weight is right now but tomorrow I am getting a scale so I can monitor it. I was better when I had one and less anxious. I wonder if I am eating too little.

I am really curious about body composition. The weight number doesn't mean anything compared to it.

My body composition is fat. I don't care is the scale reads 300lbs, if my body composition would change for the better.

I care what happens to you. If your biological family isn't there for you, then you need to find a "new family"- people you care about who care about you, never mind if anybody is actually related or not. Do you have time for any kind of social events where you're currently living?

I need to just keep looking forward and not dwelling on the past or what I dont have.

On a side note, I wonder how much grass fed beef I should eat and will this play a role in how I feel about myself/moods

I agree with Ruthie that we all need a "family" of some sort, even if it´s not our biological one...indeed our biological one may often not be the healthiest to be around (on an emotional level or otherwise!) as I have found...both parents gone now and I only speak with one other family member after the "fall-out"...

But fortunately I found a wonderful husband and have lovely children whom I adore ..though they are not yet at an age where they are emotional support!

Reach out to others Marjorie, there is plenty of Love out there for everyone...but it won´t necessarily come to you if you don´t seek it or aren´t open to it..

Reading between the lines, I would think that may be your main issue of concern...the number on the weighing-scales and how we perceive it is purely a symptom of how we feel inside...Love yourself, love others...and eat well! Often extra weight is our body´s way of protecting us from stresses and emotional hurts.

We all care for you. You are not on your own on this journey!

Thank you so much for this note. And.. I am starting to feel a bit better today. I am trying to love myself:) I do love others and eating well.. not sure if I am balanced yet, but I am going to put forth my best effort to not be all or nothing... in terms of food. Of course, I feel best with higher protein, but I do think that I might have to eat more if I am going to keep going.

Great reframe! I just want to feel "balanced" again. I am too black or white... I cant be vegan for 1 month and then switch to BTD for another month.. it throws me off and honestly, I dont think it is good for my eating disorder.

True- this is not about the weight or what I am eating, it is about having a holistic approach again. I want this so bad and I know I can do it.

I thank God for the support of everyone here.

So, eating fruit is not a "bad" thing, right? And  no grains for me. But I can have lots of veggies so now it is time to start doing it and living again.

No, fruit is healthy! Some individuals (like myself) have a REALLY hard time with any sugars and don't do well on too much fruit. That's not common. My daughter's SWAMI (type O Explorer) recommends that she eat 5 cups of veggies and 3 cups of fruit per day- so clearly many Os do well on lots of fruit!

Ok, I really think I should get my swami done again. I know it recommended 2 fruits when I ran it last.

However, I think this is where balance is needed. It seems as if when I eat meat, I dont care if I eat the fruit at all. Now, when I am not eating meat, I crave the fruit and can easily eat 2 servings.

The issue is making sure I get it all in. This is always my issue. I either go one way or another... so maybe if I eat smaller portions, I will be able to have a balanced approach.

My swami says rice is good for me, but  I never eat it anymore.

Ruthie - quite a few fruits are too high in fructose when compared to glucose despite it being healthy ::)

marjorie - I remember from previous conversations~, that you don't do well on quite a few fruits?!

The fact that you crave it when you don't eat enough meat, & vice versa, (as well as your mood swings) makes me think it may well be a fructose problem, as well as a blood sugar issue? Especially when you throw in your problems with rice for good measure?

May also be a problem with fructans when you consider issues with rice as well? Is it brown rice you are no good with?

It's not unusual for a person to crave sweets (including large amounts of fruits) when they are not getting enough protein.

Eat some more beef, it won't hurt, and yes it helps with depression. (for Hunters even more so than other meats)

What you might see as worse, could be your body working out some issues with the balance in your mouth.

Beef is a great source of zinc, iron and other minerals. It also helps lift depression, that's why it feels great to sink your teeth into a juicy steak. And yes you are right a small portion is all you need just 3-5 oz.

It is so hard to have to live without people we love. I used to feel that a lot of my heart was in cemeteries, but somehow we manage to renew, eventually, and go on with living. A saying, "life is for the living," has a special meaning to me. Actually, we don't really have any other option if we want to be a productive, successful, nurturing person. Being able to adapt is something that we can eventually find in ourselves - but, it goes without saying that it is a lot easier to adapt to some things/situations than others.

Marjorie, I hope you have better days soon. Take good care of yourself.

not sure how much the food and what i eat has to do with anything.. today, i had some beef for lunch and still was tired. maybe it will just take time for my body to adjust again.

Definitely need to work on the fruit issue. I had a salad with beef which was ok, but did not love it.

then 2.5 hours later i had a pear and omg, totally, not feeling well. i always get bloated and miserable when i eat fruit. it really is annoying. i feel like the only time I can eat it is if i havent had any food in at least 4 hours.

well, now i know.

Pears (as well as apples) are of course higher in fructose :-/ And of course there is the double whammy of the fruit fermenting at a different rate to the meat & causing digestion to slow down...;)

UGH... and I kind of new something was off when I bought them, but was trying to be more flexible about this diet. I think the stress of limiting myself all the time can take a toll on me. however, the stress i feel right now because i am so bloated is not worth it.

so,... no fruit at all? ever? this seems so ridiculous to me, but i will do it if is the only way to health.

Yeah - personally I always prefer to feel less stress about limiting myself tbh, than to have to cope with the stress I feel when I am bloated or my sin breaks out etc ::) That to me is way worse, as I then also have no energy either due to what is going on inside!! :o :( My skin reactions &/or bloated feeling is a sign that my guts are not happy, so imo not to be ignored...(& I love fruit, so it's not that I am just being picky or difficult) :-/ ;)

All my life, fruit has caused pain, bloating and heartburn and yet I have loved it so much.  Finally I "got it" that I can't be eating fruit throughout the day and I can't use it as a snack food between meals.  I eat fruit only once a day and that is first thing in the morning as part of my smoothie.

But the way I make this work for me is once a week I cook a big pot (enough for a week or two) of diamond or superfood fruit until it is reduced down to 1/4 to 1/3 of what I started out with.  So for breakfast, I take my day's allowance for fruit, which is 3 servings or 3 cups, and is now reduced down to about 2/3 C.  That goes into my blender with ground flax and ground chia, some pineapple juice and water and a number of my other supplements (such as ARA6, Proberry, Chlorella and Camu Powder- for vitamin C)  I blend it into a great smoothie which has proteins, fats and my fruit carbs.  It sits real well in my stomach, lasts for hours and is very satisfying.

This sounds great. I am going to start a more strict regimen with the fruit. No, I cant just eat it whenever I want like others.. it makes me moody!

So, I will start making small portions of pineapple or bluberries that I can grab for one per day.

V- thanks, I want to start planning and preparing more foods for the week so i can just not obsess about what to eat so much.

Yep, I might be one of them honestly. Everytime I eat fruit, I am mad.

However, I still struggle with being ok with eating grass fed beef... why do so many people say that I will lose weight if I just switch to veganism again?

Marjorie, I'm sharing with the best of intentions here: you've been asking about eating meat or not eating meat for some time now. Many O's have suggested they feel better in many areas eating meat, yet you keep asking if it's right for you. You are the only one that can decide if you will feel better by following a path. If you feel you will lose weight and feel better by going against the advice set forth here for you from so many of the caring folks, then try it for yourself. But please report back about how you are doing, and don't just fall off the grid. We genuinely want to help you.

First, these people are probably not aware of the knowledge that Dr. D. has provided to you.

Second, Even Dr. D. has said that Type O people may feel better short term by going vegetarian or vegan, but long-term do damage without the meat.

Third, about fruit - it is possible that the specific sugar in the fruit you are eating is stimulating cellular detox, which is making you feel so bad.  It is also possible that without doing this "cleaning", you will never lose the weight you think you need to lose...  Also, some of these things don't happen within a month or two...  Food for thought...

Right. Dr. D does know best. I also think listening to my body is going to provide answers.

Hmm... I remember I was 100 percent compliant about 2 years ago and fruit was ok in moderation. Great thought! Thanks Joe... you are so supportive.

Thank you for your comments and I value your feedback. I have tried the veganism and yes, I did lose weight. However, I struggled with energy and staying focused. On the other hand, I felt lighter and "cleaner" per say without eating meat. I guess it is about finding a healthy balance which is my goal here:) I think getting feedback is a good thing.

Maybe you felt better on the vegan diet because you stopped eating dairy, or maybe because you stopped both dairy and eggs? Eggs are fine for Os in general, and are a very inexpensive source of protein, but some individuals simply don't do well on them.

There are a few reasons why you may not be losing weight.
When your body fat ratio exceeds your muscle mass ratio, it will be extremely hard to lose unwanted weight in the right areas.
You must add muscle in order to lose weight faster, that simple.

As diet is concerned, you need carbohydrates in your diet. When you go 3+ days without carbohydrates the thyroid is becomes confused and body goes into starvation mode. At this point your body starts to break down muscle tissue and store fat.

Carbohydrates are good alone not mixed with protein. When you mix carbohydrates and protein directly, you create a large insulin spike in the body which equals again fat storage. Control your insulin spikes and do not eat carbs 3 hours before bed time.

Gosh, this seems so complicated as I get older. I feel like all I do is try to figure out how to lose weight... and I dont even know if I am overweight anymore!

I know I felt better with less weight on me, but who knows.


I thought carbs were the best for us o's.

hm... I think the eggs are ok. Definitely not the dairy though. IDK, I am tired of analyzing it:)

I agree it is confusing.  And a lot of information may be really good but not work for everyone so you have to just try different things and see what works for you.  I would think that the fact that you are only 5 pounds overweight shows that a lot of what you are doing is beneficial for you.  If you feel beef makes you feel heavy try other compliant meats.  I seem to do best with eating beef less and turkey and cod more but that's just me personally and may not be true for you.  If you think nuts might bother you cut your servings in half...over time that would probably take care of the 5 extra pounds.  And your feeling better weighing less may not be because of your diet but some other factor.  My Mom had RA and felt much better when she weighed less.  When you get feeling overwhelmed sometimes a brisk walk or some other physical activity can really help ease the anxiety.  I hope you can find some answers that work for you and not feel so perplexed anymore.

I agree it is confusing.  And a lot of information may be really good but not work for everyone so you have to just try different things and see what works for you.  I would think that the fact that you are only 5 pounds overweight shows that a lot of what you are doing is beneficial for you.  If you feel beef makes you feel heavy try other compliant meats.  I seem to do best with eating beef less and turkey and cod more but that's just me personally and may not be true for you.  If you think nuts might bother you cut your servings in half...over time that would probably take care of the 5 extra pounds.  And your feeling better weighing less may not be because of your diet but some other factor.  My Mom had RA and felt much better when she weighed less.  When you get feeling overwhelmed sometimes a brisk walk or some other physical activity can really help ease the anxiety.  I hope you can find some answers that work for you and not feel so perplexed anymore.

5 lbs is not very much; I can fluctuate within 5 lbs quite easily. I mostly go by how my clothes fit and what I look like without clothes.

I am mesomorphic for sure. Maybe more on the leaner side, but I see athletic in me.

Skinny legs, moderate waist, broad shoulders. however, I am only 5'3 so I can easily show a few pounds.

Legs are the most muscular part on me. Friends are constantly saying they wish they had my legs, and here I am complaining.. I want a flatter stomach and lose the chest for heavens sake.

It's not just about height. I'm only 5'1" tall but my "ideal/healthy adult weight" is 132 pounds. I was 128 at my first wedding, and I was underweight. My ribs were sticking out- I was very clearly 5 pounds underweight.

At 132 pounds "ideal size", I'd look darn good at 138 pounds. I just have a much larger build than you, even though I'm shorter. I've got "peasant stock."

Gut healing, beginning with Polyflora O, may be the greatest factor in getting back on track. It was for me. Bloat, inflammation... I know how awful this is.

I have to keep in mind that eating fish on Dr. D recommendations is a good thing! I dont have to eat red meat if my body does not want it right now.

I would not stray from the lectin profiles or avoids.. I have seen a huge difference in my life since I have cut out avoids. Now, I just need to work on getting more of the beneficials in!

I eat primarily fish, olive oil and veggies, but TOO many or TOO large causes bloating. Bloating stops weight loss. Eat smaller and more frequently, like 4x a day and no more then 2 cups of food max. Just make them all nutritous. Too much fiber for some people (me) causes trouble. Fiber bloats and constipates the begeezers out of me

IMHO, nutrient dense food matters far more than calories. I have tried upping calories as I am thin however this backfires on me. I simply cannot eat a large quantity (bulk) of food and feel well. The ONLY way I can eat enough calories to fuel me for the day is to add healthy fats, protein and SOME (not a ton) of veggies. Try this if you want. Have 3-4 oz protein,a regular handful of veggies and 1-2 Tablespoons of healthy fat 3-4x a day. I make my lunch and snack salads at the same time I make my breakfast so I'm only in the kitchen once until dinner. They are 2oz tuna/salmon/whatever, 1 or 2 romaine, green leaf or bibb lettuce leaves chopped small with onion and artichoke,  and a T olive oil on the greens and 1T mayo on the fish. Sometimes I throw 3 or 4 slices of celery/radish/carrot in for crunch. Dinner is also 2oz protein but I usually have another veggie like broc/asparagus/bok choy instead of salad.Salad and an extra veg is too much. Eating the same size meals 3-4x keeps me going all day. Now, if I make it too large, I get a slump instead of energy. Sometimes, especially when I first started this, it felt like I didn't even eat. However, to my surprise, it fueled me perfectly without causing any slumps or bloating. Just know you get to eat again in 3 hours.Too large is known as the restaurant effect. You can eat a whole head of iceburg lettuce for about 20 calories but it will fill your stomach so full that you will get a huge insulin spike and feel stuffed and bloated but didn't eat any calories. Filling your stomach is not the answer, fueling yourself with usable nutritous food is. You are right, too much of any food is not good. This also keeps my hunger and blood sugar VERY stable.

have you heard of the ninja chopper? I might get one... then I will stop buying the salad bar items already chopped up.

Today, I posted on another thread.. i had a good workout, then a large salad with half can of wild salmon, veggies and some chicken... probably too much food in one sitting which why I am tired now, but I keep doing this to myself.

so, I ended up chopping more veggies and i feel better that i am good to go for the rest of the day, in general.

fish is my favorite with some veggies, but again, not too many.

back to studying for statistics midterm... ugh! :)

For me, I would be bloated with that. I would have a small to med salad with half a can of salmon and a piece of celery. Later I would have some veggies and some chicken. Certainly not all in one meal or I'd be tired too. It seems you either starve yourself or gorge, try spacing it out with lady like portions and always know... you will eat again. You don't need to fuel or refill all in one meal

It varies with school schedule. I am definitely an hour a day.

I walk to and from gym which is about 2 miles. The classes are either on eof the following: weight training/endurance because it has some cardio in it, kickboxing, hi-impact aerobics, step aerobics.

I aim for 6 days a week which most often happens.

I do eat breakfast... egg whites and veggies typically.

going to try hot yoga again, but not my fav.

I thought they might help me get this ratio, "To ensure proper recovery following exercise the National Strength and Conditioning Association recommends consuming 0.8 g. of protein per kg of body weight and 1.8 g of carbohydrate per kg of body weight".

I know that stress can make our bodies hang on to and store fat but I also wondered if a lot of exercise does that too.  Do you know?  The fight or flight thing with the body trying to save up energy for future needs.  Oh well, just me pondering here.  ;D

I assume it is more stress, and that your body is working on other things. It'll probably go away when it gets fed enough, and creates gut flora balance. (red meat is a probiotic for Hunters)

Keep going, perseverence will get you there.  Medidate to tune in and your body will tell you what it needs.  I think it harmful to be concerned about weight, we don't know if you are really overweight.  don't just eat beef, we need fibre and preferabbly raw veggie fibres with smaller amount of fruits.  You will destroy your colon if eating lots of beef or fibreless foods.  Eat at regular times if possible, chew well in a relaxed environment.  Read the live food / living cuisine sites, rawsome diet which is helping so many people.  My dental problems only improved when I stopped eating all cooked food and animal proteins, cooked foods turn into starches and sugars very quickly in some people's systems. So does baked flour products.  Also, don't eat too much fruit esp dried fruits.  Lots of greens good ie spinach, sea veggies, kale, avocado for good fats, soaked almonds.  Fast one day per week, which I am doing again; feels great! Keep in touch.

Right, eating beef actually is likely to help save the colon for Hunters... Although some grains are good because they have a few anti-cancer things in them. Phalaytes or something... have to look it up again.

There is truth in benefits from fibrous things, plants, as bacteria converts some of it to butyric acid. But frankly veggies have nutrients meat does not. Several Type O have done well with some raw veggies and meat (not raw).

But again what is a vegan doing trying to pout on a non-vegan forum? I've found some vegan forums to be overally nazi, and full of depressed people guzzling Cyno B12.

yep, everyone different, and should not matter whether one is vegetarian, vegan, ex-veg or mixed eater, we all have something to learn from other people and are all on this journey together so best to keep an open mind, Not all vegans are taking supplements, there are many different types of plant-based diets out there, it can take time to find out what works well for our systems/health issues. So long as we find what works for us, while also trying to consider reducing waste and animal rights/welfare, environment - that is important too!

that is good some people can tolerate baked flour products, I personally have done two deep thorough colon cleanses in the last couple years and with my biological mother dying from colon cancer at age 37, I have chosen to not have/eat flour of any typed, esp baked/cooked flour.  I saw the huge amount of mucoid plaque which came out of my body, just as happened with autopsies of Elvis Presley and John Wayne.  I don't want to treat my body/stomach like a garbage/trash tip/dump any more so I took responsibility and made changes in my life to achieve good health/vitality which I've never really had. It is an ongoing journey and I support others trying to learn and do better. Today, I made a nice simple sweet - fresh young coconut flesh, vanilla extract, almond butter, dates - that's it, is in fridge right now - good for my sweet tooth in small quantity.  I enjoyed raw blended soup for lunch today and yesterday - full of vitamins/minerals - I've reduced supplements as well, and increased my raw juices every day.
