I have read that you are truly healthy when your urine is clear. However, I, on the other hand, strive to have yellow urine so I am in a state of ketosis.

I am not sure if this is healthy, but I would like to others who have been on the diet to share their thoughts.

Also, I think that 0's are naturally made to be in a state of ketosis? Perhaps I am wrong but I feel "foggy" when I am not. I seem to focus, be more productive and have more energy when I am not water logged.

Yellow urine is a sign of dehydration and should therefore be corrected by drinking water more frequently. A person should drink 50% of their total body weight in ounces of water; that is, if you're 100 lbs. then you should drink 50 ounces of water per day. I suppose this could include some tea or beverages that don't contain chemicals or caffeine. I always tell my kids, because they don't usually keep track, to gauge whether or not they're properly hydrated by the color of their urine. A hint of yellow is probably O.K. but any more yellow is not good.

Let me add there can be supplements that can change the color of urine temporarily, such as quercetin as I have noticed.

My sons have said they notice better focus and concentration when they're well hydrated, and I have to agree.

Ketosis is the ONLY way for me. I agree, I feel "off" when I'm not.
PS, bell peppers are not low carb, especially if you're eating two whole ones at a time. Go for the salads and higher fiber veggies, like the green ones. Put a few slices of peppers ON your salad

Urine should be a little yellow, maybe brownish-yellow. If it is too dark, yes, you are dehydrated, but if it is clear, you are deficient in Vitamin C.

I'm not sure I agree with the vast amounts of water that some recommend, although if it works for them then that's fine.

Assuming you are eating a reasonable amount of vegetables, and your three cups of green tea per day and perhaps a glass or two of lemon and water, I suspect you don't need much more than that at all.

I don't drink much more than that and haven't done for quiet a while. I feel better with less too. interesting. again more of the NOT one size fits all that we are all different.

If you drink coffee you will need more etc etc. too much fruit and you will need more water, too much sugar and you will need more water. if you are following the inclined bed therapy for example it is recommended hat you have an extra glass of water a day.

"Personally" ;) the colour of mine is all over the place, totally clear at times and yellow at other times.

The link between clear urine and vitamin c deficiency is a new one on me. must look that one up

Thanks everyone. I drink too much water. seriously, some days i drink like 5 liters. more out of habit than anything else. also, i keep thinking i can drink water to pee out the fat. i really just want to lose my belly fat. i know i can do it! I need a goal and then i am good to go.

does anyone else monitor their weight by the scale or i am the only one?

i get more anxious when i dont weigh myself. just being truthful here.

If you drink too much liquid, you will be diluting your digestive juices too much to do their job efficiently.  I can see how bloating could be one result.  Possibly some loss of minerals and electrolytes and loss of food nutrients also.

Not at all sure I agree that being in a continual state of ketosis is a good thing for most people, but setting that potentially gargantuan debate aside:  just want to add that certain nutrients (like the B vitamins) can cause yellowing of the urine that is nothing to be concerned about.  Eating nutritional yeast, for example, does that.  In general/overall, though, clear urine is a good thing as your baseline.  The occasional, nutrient-induced bit of yellow is fine, too.   :)

Can you explain this in a bit more detail, as it is news to me and I can't find and links suggesting this. If you have a link that would be great thanks

I did come across this "*Vitamin C is oxidized in air. During my University studies in biochemistry, we tested a number of proprietary orange juices when freshly opened and again after 24 hours. Regardless of the Vitamin C content when freshly opened, after being left in the fridge for 24 hours, the Vitamin C content of most was about the same as mains water!"

I used to like the state of ketosis.. was the best way to drop weight.. did that for 20 years..  BUT between that and daily medications for pain, I became chronic fatigued..  I am not sure about the connection here but it might make sense..

When I found BTD early on I felt much more liberated.  And became HEALTHY.

I was reassured by BTD that calories where not the enemy.  I had more choices and much better guidelines.  I have tried many things even with BTD and yet I never (much) veered from BTD.  It is all the underlying good for me foods I eat, I only CHEAT with avoids or neutrals.

Urine should be odorless, ... when it smells like poraxide drink something, when it smells fishy get Dyflucan for a yeast infection.  Drinking water to excess will be no better than drinking to little..  I drink much of my liquids in watery vegetables.. Juices would replenish some lost minerals lost in water.

STABILITY in color might be the thing to strive for.  Smell is a good indicator ..

Some one said brownish.. I do not think so.  I would question that as blood in urine?

Mine is never perfectly clear- it always has some degree of yellow to it. If it's a darker yellow, nearly brown, then that means I'm dehydrated. I sometimes have that first thing in the morning. It's bright yellow when I'm taking B vitamins and/or eating lots of B vitamins in food. I sometimes forget to take my vitamins in the morning- when I go to the bathroom and see that my urine isn't yellow enough, I know I didn't take my vitamins yet. It's a good reminder! It's often nearly clear by the end of the day.

Good, I am not alone then. I never have it brown but definitely yellow most of the time. I am trying to cut back on the water because I think I was drinking too much, to be honest. I was up to 4 or 5 liters a day!

Never thought I would have to regulate how much water I was drinking..... usually it is the opposite.

Yellow urine could also be a sign that your body is throwing nutrients that is excess on your body. :)
