Hi
So, money is tight right now, but I was going to buy some tuna to help me to get through. however much of the tuna in stores says soy as an ingredient. Do you think it is worth buying for purpose of protein but I dont think the soy is ok for me????

Is the tuna being packed in soybean oil?  Or are they adding soy protein to the tuna?  Is soy oil a toxin for you? You can buy tuna packed in water.

Switch brands/stores -- tuna is available without added soy.

It just lists soy in the ingredients, so not sure about how it is in there. According to btd, soy is neutral for me, but I know it isnt gmo, so I am sure it cannot be good in general, make sense?

however, I need to get the protein in. I guess it would be the lesser of the two evils, no?

We learned in an earlier thread that olive oil manufacturers sometimes cut their oils with cheaper extenders. I saw a can of anchovies once where the 3rd ingredient was cottonseed oil. The front of the tin said "packed in olive oil". Blech!

It can be a bit pricey, but really high quality canned tuna in olive oil is a worthwhile treat. If you want to eat tuna 3 times a week, that wouldn't be recommended anyway.

IMO, the single most important thing for Os is to get enough protein. Yes, it's better to get a higher-quality brand that's 100% soy-free (as well as free of other potentially unhealthy additives.) But the better quality tuna can be 2 or 3 times as expensive.

If you buy the more expensive tuna, will you end up skimping on having enough protein that month, or can you make up the budget difference by, say, eating more eggs and less fish? I personally react strongly enough to soy and other additives that I'm better off eating less fish than consuming the additives. However, you may rely on the protein from tuna and not do as badly with the additives, especially since you're a secretor and the soy isn't as toxic for you.
