I had to undergo a Colonoscopy today and I feel really miserable. Had to drink a gallon of Sodium Carbonate and the flavoring was loaded with artificial flavors as were the meds themselves. I feel rather poorly and really out of it and still have some weird stuff happening. Any suggestions on how to feel better?

Ah yes, I remember it well!   :X  It took a while for me to feel normal again.  A steady diet of all Diamonds and Superfoods is one of the best things.  Also, lots of probiotics that are right for your body, such as Polyflora.

I think Deflect would only help, too.  In fact, anything you can to to rebuild the healthy environment in your intestines is a good thing.  ARA6 and Intrinsia are a couple of other helpful supplements.

Victoria, I am not sure what you mean by Diamonds. I don't seem to have the same charts that you have. I didn't see a Diamond category with my SWAMI. I guess I could start with yogurt. Thanks a lot

You have 3 categories:  Superfoods, Neutrals and Toxins.  In the Superfood section, the foods that are the very best for you have a little diamond shaped symbol after each one.  Otherwise they are Superfoods, which are second best.  :)

Can you (or someone else) make some cultured vegetables (or as others said, probotic).  I would take it easy, put a hot water bottle/heat back on your abdomen, lie down.  Maybe some warm soup from your compliant bones, ie fish/seafood stock/broth - will comfort and energise you??  I am due for a colonoscopy in the next year or so, so I empathise with you. don't worry, you will feel better soon.

As a celiac I had colonscopy in October and I had cracked lips and dermatitis, B Vitamins and fish oils helped, but the damage was very long to treat,. I plan to avoid it  for a long time as all was good according to the MDs. I use probiotics like Poliflora A all the time and I did not stop then, but I lost vitamis and minerals, when I am a bit short of them already as a celiac  with absorbtion  issues. The darned sweetener and laxatives are not harmless LOL, They should have a harmless preparation option  imho

I would say to pump up the vitamins and minerals and drink a lot of water (at least 64 oz) to flush out the medications and chemicals daily. BTW, people should always be drinking a lot of water daily.

How are you feeling now?

Still a little unsettled. My bowels didn't move until early this morning around 8AM, and were definitely not the kind I expected. Still have that feeling of fullness in my upper belly. Just one of those yucky kind of feelings. I had Green Tea with Honey when I met with my student at Starbucks and Sweet Potatoes stir-fried in 1/2 tsp of olive oil and a few onions for breakfast.

I felt really great after my colonoscopy. A friend came to stay with me during the day of the procedure, but after an hour or so I told her she was welcome to go home because I knew she had a lot of things more pressing that staying with me! I seriously felt wonderful! I think the prior three days of cleansing was very beneficial for me and was mostly responsible for the euphoria. The place where I went has a reputation for being a top notch clinic, though. I have never heard the slightest whisper of a complaint from anyone who has gone there. (They do have a very strict protocol about how the cleanse is done, though, and they depend on their patients to take it very seriously!) The doc did an esophageal dilation while I was there, too, and I didn't have the slightest discomfort from that, either. I have heard stories from people who have gone to other places, and their experiences were quite different from mine.

I think if I were still having discomfort after a few days, I would be calling the doctor's office.

Sometimes it depends on what they do.  I always feel lousy after mine but that's because I have IBD and they do a lot of biopsies.  I usually ask for decreased pain meds etc. during the procedure and sometimes I am awake for some of it.  It's the gas pains pains that get to me.  I certainly don't need someone to stay with me afterwards.  The very first one I had back in the mid 90s was a breeze.  I really could have driven myself home after that one although they certainly don't allow you to leave without someone to drive you home.

I am sorry you have IBD - no wonder you have such a lousy time afterwards. :o I guess I can say that I don't have that problem since I don't have any gas at all afterwards and no pain. If I ever do, I guess I will know that I have been doing something wrong with my diet to bring it on or old age is catching up with me!

My dad had problems with his stomach since I can remember, and the sad part was that he was pretty good at figuring out what foods were "against" him, as he called it, but he would NEVER quit eating them. Well, he would quit until he "got over" the results of his binge, then, he would be back to eating them again until the next crisis! He loved my mother's biscuits, and he would eat at least two of them every morning until his stomach would absolutely rebel. There is no telling how many times he had Xrays of his stomach and intestines because of the pain. I wonder if he thought the doctor would come up with some sort of magic to make these foods "agree" with him! I've always had a horror of having those problems so you can see why this diet, to my delight, answered so many questions for me!

I wish we could wave a magic wand made especially for people who have intestinal problems. Every known drug makes them worse, and sometimes a lot of foods that should work for people act like they came from their worst enemy.:-/
Dr. D. certainly had his work cut out for him when he took on the job of dealing with these issues.

You said it.. Many decades ago I was doubled up, in pain every day, 168 belly x-rays did nothing, until I changed doctors and the new guy told me to try his diet... haha ;D no more milk for my whatever the first doctor treated.. I was cured from the moment the new man handed me the paper suggesting : no more dairy...Yes the enemy was slain..

Later I gave up white sugar in coffee, and with it blue like (slight) depression I must have had all my life without ever knowing it / it took me three month to discover the blueness gone.. Another enemy gone by the way side...

Coffee with caffeine was a big drag, stealing my composure, making me drive 5 miles faster for every cup.. That enemy took me years of fighting to give it up.. I still like the decaf - wishing I could find another drink to satisfy the bitter taste...  have yet to find it.. but there is hope... Recently:  I am able to drink lime and Trehalose 'sugar' water in place if it.. the decaf enemy is still lurking..  but I am practicing 'Karate' on it..  8)

I might have other enemies.. like maybe banana, fruit, but they feel more like bothersome neighbors... No way to move them away totally, but a here and there visit for a small bite is ok ;).. Eggs might be in the same category, with fewer would be better...

Yes.. Dr D took on a lot years ago, when he first confirmed the 'why' I suffered my first 32 years of belly aches...

I evitate whitecoates whenever it's possible.... ok I accept dental work but then... all the rest I'm doing on my own....(smarty)(ok)(dance) :D ;D
