I really would like to hear some comments if anyone has them. I have met several people who are type o and do not eat dairy, gluten or meat. They are very healthy which makes me wonder how this can be?


Maybe it is because they are still not eating the major avoids? I am not questioning Dr.D because I know it works, but it is mind boggling to me.

I know two type O's in their mid 50's who've been ovo/lacto most of their adult lives. They eat wheat and sugar nearly every day, and look awful. They're energetic in a static sort of way... edgy and unsettled. Scattered. They've clearly subverted their health profile. I say this not because of any particular expression of disease, but because they look like 90 year olds and their cognitive skills are becoming quite narrowed--as if relying more on stored memory than thought process. I know this is only my opinion, but if you saw them you'd agree that something was wrong.

It sounds like the Type Os you know are keeping away from two major problem food types and one beneficial type.  Immediately, that suggests that they may have less problems than someone eating from all food types...  

The only issue that I see to be a red flag in my mind is with them getting the proper amount of beneficial fats, but if they are eating good seafood with their fruits, veggies, and non-gluten carbohydrates - they may be fulfilling their needs adequately.

Over the long term, O's will suffer major diet related health issues.  This is not to say that a small percentage of O's may be unique and live a long and fruitful life on a veggy type diet.  We are all invididuals and have epigenetic differences that even make identical twins vastly different when it comes to environmental stimulus.

A vegan diet is, by definition, a diet that excludes ALL animal products- no fish, no dairy, and no eggs. Ovo-lacto vegetarians will eat eggs and dairy (ovo-vegetarians will eat eggs but not dairy, and lacto-vegetarians will eat dairy but not eggs.) Those three groups are often just called "vegetarians." Pescitarians will eat fish, but not red meat or poultry, and vary on whether or not they eat eggs or dairy. They're not technically vegetarians, although many do use the label, which confuses things.

So, when I read "type O vegan" I'm picturing somebody who eats no fish, dairy, or eggs. Is that what you meant?

If they're apparently healthy on a vegan diet, the first question I have is "are you SURE they're type O?" A type A individual may thrive on such a diet, especially a type A Warrior.

My next question is "how long have they been on this diet"?  If they've only been vegan for a few months, they may be doing fine. Vegan diets CAN be healthy in the short term as "detox diets" but aren't sustainable long-term.

My last question is "How often do they 'cheat'?" Maybe they TRY to be vegan but periodically eat some meat or fish and just don't tell anybody about it.

It's also possible that they aren't as healthy as they appear to be.

My sister was an O vegan for a long long time. Took me 20 years to convince her to change her diet.

She feels so much better. O Vegans are tough, but eventually if they are honest with themselves they will have to admit that they love meat and how it makes them feel.

It can take many years for them to realize if they ever do.

It sounds like you might have some internal conflicts. It might be better to work out those and worry less about other distractions. Decide what you are comfortable with and what you are not.

Prior to large health food stores and probably in the late '80s, right after I began following
the BTD, the manager of this local  health food store was a guy
who was a type O vegan...Once I began the diet, I used to ask everyone "what is your blood
type?  So little was known and ER4YT hadn't been written yet so I was still curious, still
learning and so much wanted to know what other people were eating.  So here was this
manager of this health food store....a blood type O and VEGAN.  He was the skinniest guy I ever saw...He was maybe 45 years old at the time (and yet, he just looked old-- he honestly could
have been 35 or 40), wiry, very into New Age stuff and wouldn't wear leather shoes or a leather belt much less consume anything that was related to animal products.......He lived on
plant foods. I found him fascinating once I learned I was an A who might do well on a vegetarian
diet and yet he was an O following a more rigid diet than I was.

...However, this is my point.  I only saw this
guy for about 5 years because he moved away...but in that time he had severe gum problems, and what I noticed mostly about him is that his hair was falling out, thin, stringy, greasy and he smelled really funky....He had patches of red blotches on his cheeks which made me wonder if his constant intake of grains rather than meat caused severe digestive/malabsorption problems.

This was the only person I ever met who claimed to be a vegan with an O blood type and he looked rather wretched....more wretched as time went on.

The most ironic part of this was that he grew up eating meat.  He told me his father was a butcher. He should have listened to his father!  He'd have likely thrived on meat, as his body
seemed to have failed him eating just plants and grains!

I agree that for a short time, it might actaully be good as a detox, but bad in the long run.
I guess most of us have heard of vegetarians who died young, & figured they were Os or Bs.

I worked at a bakery 2002-2008 & met lots of young ladies. One was a vegetarian that was an O & she had heard of the BTD & thought it was not true.  She was unfriendly & seemed to think that others owed her things. For example, there was some disagreement with her landlord that she felt offended by, but I thought the landlord was right(I didn't say it though) & she was so upset at him.  
Later this gal was found to be trying to steal from the till. The boss is smart enough to be able to catch these things. I think she & her boyfriend moved a lot & I suspect were skipping out on paying the rent!
We know about Henson of the Muppets fame who died in his 50s & was a vegetarian.

A friend of my husband's died in 2006 at age 74. He was from Italy, but had a quiet personality. Tho his wife was an excellent cook, this guy didn't like meat. I didn't think that was so bad years ago, but at the end of his life, the wife mentioned that he had a blood transfusion of type B! By that time, I knew a lot about BTD, & then realized why this man had 3 bypasses(1st at age 54?) & eventually died of kidney cancer at age 74. The personality of the wife was such that I could never talk about diet too much & the man was not a big talker(tho a talented engineer), so I didn't give my opinion. It was too late anyway maybe!  But knowing that he was type B sure put all the pieces together about his health. I would have guessed him to be type A being a quiet Italian & not liking meat!

In 1987, I went vegan for a few months & it was fine. I ate lentils & brown rice a lot that I remember. It probably was a good detox. I was home a lot & had time to fix the food. I wonder how working moms can cook healthy vegan unless they are light eaters. Being an O, one bowl of lentil soup does not fill me up! I need time for all the bean-sorting, slicing, & dicing that good vegan diets need.
The good thing is that the cleanup is very easy - no greasy stuck-on pans to deal with!

My coworker is a vegetarian (I know, not a vegan...). At 26, she's on a bunch of immunosuppressants for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Even on Embrel, her arthritis is visible deforming her joints. Ugh.

Absolutely won't try meat based or low gluten diet. Sad.

One of my best friends is a blood type O.  Her other two closest friends have type A blood.  My friend "R" has always been philosophically drawn to the vegan way of eating and has adhered to eating more like her type A friends (who actually eat fish, although my friend doesn't) than a type O.  

"R" used to be a stunningly beautiful woman with long, lean arms and legs, thick shiny hair, bright eyes and a powerful intellect.  

Over the 13 years that I've known her, she has changed a lot.  She looks emaciated and at the age of 59, she walks stooped over, like a very old person;  her hair looks dry and dull;  She suffers from brain fog and she has become very paranoid/insecure.  She has developed intolerances for so many foods that there is very little she can eat anymore.  It is very sad.   :'(

Wow. You describe one of my aforementioned friends to a T here. Also "R". Weird coincidence. Very sad indeed.

I am sorry your friend is not in good condition, but I wonder what she eats. I think o's need protein for sure, just not convinced that meat is always the answer. However, I definitely think my issue is portion control and it is more about eating smaller portions more often to keep my blood sugar stable. Slowing down.. is so hard for me.

Thanks for sharing this though. I was vegan as you know for many years, and people always told me I was too thin... but I disagree. I am convinced that I need to make some changes.. Today I had some tofu and tuna in my salad. I felt better without  the chicken. Maybe it is the chicken that is making me feel awful. Tomorrow, when I get paid, I can get some grass fed beef and just try to go slow;)

Hi

Happy New Year! Most are in their 30's or early 40's. Why do you ask?

I know it is more about me being aware of what I am eating and how much, regardless of the food. I am working on it. and... I know I will lose ten pounds this month when I stop and really look at what I am eating and also, WHY am I eating??? Does that make sense?

I dont think I need to eat as much as I do, but I keep thinking I am O and I need protein. Kind of overrated if you ask me.

Just my opinion, though:)

My question popped in my mind the minute I read your opening post in this thread, but practically it is an echo of all the other posts sent to you before mine. Namely, the O body can cope with vegan diet and look and feel healthy for few number of decades, and then there's the danger it may just crack, as we have regretfully witnessed happening.  :( >:(  Obviously the age of 50 or 60 is not anymore the top rail which we hope or aim to reach.

IMHO, not only it does make sense, but it is one of the finest rule in life: to remind ourselves daily our deepest and basic reasons and rationales in Life.

The People of Israel (Israel = directly to God!) were ordered by our leader Moses, who lead us and showed us the way out of slavery (to the basic phase of animal urges) towards enlightment, to repeat the basics to our children. And the Jewish abide and repeat this order at least twice daily ("Hear O Israel", etc). In most cases we have also to grow and educate ourselves, as if we ourselves are our own proper children, and to invest in this throughout life.  :D  :K)

Hello all - for about four years, I tried eating macrobiotic diet, also vegetarian and vegan.  My health has been not good for most of that time, the changes/deteroiation took place slowly, first with weight loss, mainly loss of my muscles and bone density. As Dr D says, the grains, soy and dairy is not well digested by O's (esp the "hunter" genotype), plus the phytic acids and walls of the grains/legumes, bind with minerals, so I became malnourished, yet I was eating well.  Many people made comments about my weight; probably thought I had anorexia.  Also, as many vego's do, when they lose the dense foods of meat, dairy; they often develop uhhealthy addictions to sugar/rice syrup/agave, sweets/desserts etc as I did.  My teeth/fillings starting to weaken/fall out.  My hair became very dry despite eating plenty of oils/avocados; I went into a early menopause; I could not focus/concentrate - I had panicy feelings and more anxiety, I think the grains (even oats) were slowly causing more damage to my gut. As many vegans do, I also took supplements incl B12, and spirulina for protein, it made no difference. I ate quinoa for extra protein, yet still did not feel well or strong.  I did not feel the motivation I previously felt to excercise or get things done.
PLEASE people, think carefully and advise your friends; as I do not wish others to suffer as I have with health, and waste money on supplements.
I am a very compassionate person still, even though I do now need to eat red meat 5 times a week, and fish/poultry, animal fats, broths from beef/lamb bones. I try to buy free range, organic when I can afford it, and I don't waste much, leftovers go to my cat and the stray hungry cats that live outdoors who are always hungry.
Eating the diet we were designed to eat best I think, ie variety and balanced, although there may be an odd exception of course due to individual differences.  Some vegetarians I know are weak, not strong with stamina at all, and very edgy/not calm or balanced.  A man I knew died prematurely from cancer.
Dr D knows his work, so let's pay him some respect after his years of working in this area of nutrition/health.  I am stepping up my exercise now, and adhering more to O/Hunter diet, and starting to feel better, my weight is now 52.3kg, as opposed to 46.6kg in August 2012.

This is the newest superfood found out from Prof.Dr. M.LucĂ -Moretti and peeps I only can tell you woow.... all my O'clients deprived from aminos became like flowers flourishing  in summer... amazing amazing !!!

But it's also fine as a supstitute for peeps who want to loose weight... but here we've to go for supstitution of all other aminos and then yuk it is... :D


btw...ther's a beautiful booklet about that stuff from Lars Johansson-all about the
decouverte about the human aminoacid patterns.... :o ;D(clap)(ok)(dance)........

p.s.

also recommendable for all kidney-liver-pancreatic- gut-and inflammation related issues... why coz it only produces 1 % of nitrogen instead of over 80% eaten with every meat-fish-egg or whatever containing food of albuminous constitution ;D....... btw... a super-dooper food for all who need a bit more power (wiseman)(smarty)(woot).....more infos...come along with an e-mail.... ;) ;D

Who says they are healthy? Do they look healthy? Or are they telling you they are healthy? Maybe they feel miserable and they won't admit it. Maybe they don't know what feeling healthy feels like. Have you ever asked them anything about how they feel?

Before I started this diet, I didn't think I was feeling really unhealthy. I would say to people that I feel good and feel healthy, there was never anything wrong with me, I was never sick. I just didn't know what feeling healthy felt like and that I could feel so much better then I did. I know the difference now, and it is major!

Ooh, been there done that. After many years as a vegetarian, I went macrobiotic for a few months with the hope of increasing my too-low blood platelet level. My energy level decreased and my partner said I looked much older and emaciated. Then I got my blood tested again, and my platelets were at their lowest level ever, which I regarded as a clear sign that I need a different diet.

I'm doing better after finding this page which suggests either macrobiotic or ER4YT which are quite opposite recommendations for us Type O people.

I know some people who have done great on macrobiotics, and most of them are Type A. ::)

Thankyou Victoria and Brett650 for your comments/messages.  I forgot to mention in my last posting, that I also experienced two separate visits to Emergency Dept of public hospitals due to inflammatory reactions in my body to the macrobiotic and vegan diet, note: many seeds, nuts, grains and legumes are high in pro-inflammatory omega 6 fatty acids - maybe I was low in omega 3's??; I had never experienced back pain so severe as in September 2011, and in April 2012 I had vomiting for 3 days, that cleared up, then incontinence of solid  wastes whilst excercising in the park (colon is probably also muscle needing protein); then severe diarrohea after eating out one day (vegetarian meals that day); my whole boy was going haywire; this was real and not something I ever want to repeat, or hear about happening to others, esp my 'hunter' and type O friends on this wonderful site/forum.   My face was also sunken and thin before I came back to a more strict O diet. I do know one lady who told me she is type A, and on vegan diet, she looked physically strong; but cognitive health - not so sure; irritable, but then probably just a bad day. I know lots of people do well on vegan and macro diet, that is good, the main thing is that we find what suits our own system; to other 'hunter's out there: keep eating vegies to make system alkaline, whilst eating the animal proteins; and super veggies/fruits. Also our exercise program will keep us healthy and positive!  Wishing you the best!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It is much appreciated and it  helps to hear others who have benefited from not being a vegan "o".

Most of the time, I think I am overanalyzing things.. ugh! I still would like to just stop and listen to my body but lately, when I do this, I turn to veggies and very little meat.

HOWEVER, today I had some chicken thighs drenched in olive oil and they tasted great and I said to myself, " self, you deserve to eat what feels good, and what your body wants, so go with it".

Seriously, I have to repeat this mantra quite often or I would eat a head of lettuce everyday and not care about anything.
