This is what I read...

Why Coconut Oil is "Special" Among Saturated Fats
Now on to coconut oil; a rare gem among saturated fats, with numerous health benefits.  First, did you know that multiple studies on Pacific Island populations who get 30-60 percent of their total caloric intact from fully saturated coconut oil have all shown nearly non-existent rates of cardiovascular disease?

Coconut oil can be helpful for pregnant women, nursing moms, the elderly, those concerned about digestive health, athletes (even weekend warriors), and those of you who just want to enhance your overall health. One of the explanations for its broad health applications is because it's rich in lauric acid, which converts in your body to monolaurin – a compound also found in breast milk that strengthens a baby's immunity.

Its medium chain fatty acids, or triglycerides (MCT's), also impart a number of health benefits, including raising your body's metabolism and fighting off pathogens such as viruses, bacteria and fungi. Capric acid, another coconut fatty acid present in smaller amounts, is another antimicrobial component.

Coconut oil is also excellent for your thyroid. Additionally, a very exciting and recent discovery is that coconut oil may even serve as a natural treatment for Alzheimer's disease, as MCT's are also a primary source of ketone bodies, which act as an alternate source of brain fuel that can help prevent the brain atrophy associated with dementia.

I bought some coconut oil on the suggestion of yesterday.. now I have to figure out how to use it..
I wonder if one cooks with it, or can I use it in some kind of salad dressing??
fry eggs or vegetables?
how hot?
smoothies, but I can no longer do with fruit .. even carrots are to sweet..

If I could cut the cravings for avoids I just would love it!

I once tried eating it from a spoon and that did not work..

How long should it take to see good lipids results?? how much would I need to ingest?  guessing is ok,, my doctor will confirm or nay-say in two month..

are you eating less crabs goldie, that will help you more.

anyway if you use it on your skin, which is what Dr D thinks is better than eating it. don't wear any metal, especially stainless steel, it reacts with it and the nickel come off onto your skin and get absorbed, NOT good.

by the way anyone want to buy a stainless steel Rolex let me know.

No metal Thanks PC.. Happy Holidays.. send pictures of Emily my email.. how is she doing?.. Big girl already..

I just tried it on the skin.. smells delish.. a little goes a long way, makes up for the 12.00 I paid for it.

I cannot ingest coconut oil (an avoid), but I do use it on my lips (sometimes), and I put it in my ears when they are itchy. I love the smell.

It's one of the best body oils.  Massage a little bit into the skin of your whole body after a shower, while you're still wet.  Blot dry gently with the towel.

It's also an excellent facial cleanser - what I use exclusively.  Massage a little bit into your face, then wring the water out of a hot wash cloth.  Press to your face and wipe off the oil.  Then rinse your wash cloth and wet with cold water.  Wring out the water and press all over your face.  :)

For me Coconut oil, on my todays Swami entries, is NEUTRAL... I use it on my lips and it seems to at least not dry them out more..

Use it on my skin so far.. have been doing little cooking so no way to ingest it, but as a neutral that might be ok as is.

I will test in 3 month and see if anything changed..

The biggest fight is my weight, if I could add the oil to salad it would be nice, or make something snack like out of it.

Would be a new flavor, although I choke on coconut meat in all forms.. goes down the wrong way.. but this is the oil only..

I like the smell, even though I am 'on edge' about it.. Generally I do not like smells of any kind..

I will give this whole jar a try.. and see ... I hope it will make all kinds of differences..

Goldie, if you do decide to eat it occasionally, it is excellent to stir-fry with.  Or melt a small dab on top of something already cooked, but still warm enough to melt the oil.

Thanks Victoria.. I make stir fry all the time, so I will try..

Tonight I had a interesting experience.. I had a fair size salad but instead of having a hamburger to go with it, I asked for just smothered onions.. a little weird but it turned out Ok to eat - but I could only eat .5 of the salad.. There is no way I can finish it.  I had a piece of chocolate before, but no big deal, that never stopped me from eating..

I wonder, could the coconut oil satiate me - through skin absorption - and could the onions be so satisfying that I could eat less than half?   IF that where a recipe for Food reduction success, I would jump up and down just for the joy of it..

:D Thank you. (((hug)))  ;D

Also, I heard that if you eat coconut oil with garlic it’s more powerful.

This is from one of the website.  It says:

"All oils are composed of fat molecules – triglycerides or free fatty acids.
Virgin coconut oil contains free fatty acids such as lauric acid, caprilic, capric and others. It contains between 45% and 57% Lauric acid, exactly the same Lauric acid found in breast milk. Breast milk contains more than 50% of Lauric Acid."

Coconut oil is my superfood in my Swami.  :D ;D

Better to take Membrosia cocktail and a uridine supplement every morning.

If it's only a neutral for you, then you're unlikely to see any special healing benefits from it. It's simply a food.

I have it as a "beneficial" but not a "diamond" on my SWAMI. I use it as a spread on rice challah (only on Shabbos.) Sometimes I use it as a cooking oil. I often stir about half a teaspoon into my mocha mate (yerba mate with cocoa powder) to make it "extra creamy" without adding any avoids or going through the fuss of making rice milk.

More evidence for the effects of uridine and membrosia in combination-- why waste your money on coconut oil Goldie? Loads of articles all over the internet here is just one--

I thought coconut oil for O's was likened by Dr D to running soap through your bile ducts?

From the comment Dr. D. made, it was that some people do better than others with soap running through the bile ducts, so I took this to mean that the CO acts like a soap in the bile duct of everyone, but that some people have a better reaction to it than others...

Coconut oil is drying out my lips  but I have always dry lips.. .. so the coconut NEUTRAL is rearing it's reason for NEUTRAL only and not beneficial.. Its neutral in look up and my swami.. so Neutral it is.. and I have maintained that NEUTRAL foods are not really good enough for me..

So now I have a jar of coconut oil, I will use to reduce some numbers.. at least that will be the test for this jar..

And elsewhere I find that: "Uridine can be isolated from sugar beet. Uridine in combination with omega-3 fatty acids has been shown to alleviate depression in rats"
And I have a good supply of the molasses made from sugar beets. And I take omega-3! And every single one of these other supplements they mention in this article! Imagine that!

Well, Goldie, I'm glad you're the one choking this oil to death to prove Dr. D. is right!  :D

Dr. D. has always been right so far!!!!!!!!!! LOL ... (I wish we could just insert a chip in his brain that transcribes all his thinking.. ) just 'listening' would be WOW!

YET, if THE FAMOUS DOC would invent lipo-suction, I would jump and wait in line... then again he could invent something that coats the foods and passes it through ::), calories free.  ;D

But this body is just toooo smart, and it speaks so eloquently.  Take 48 hours and all the proof is in, pro or con...  I got healed in 48 hours years ago of belly pain..

I wonder if I should just 'ingest' the coconut oil instead, a half spoon a day.. to see what will happen?  Sometimes its just plain fun to occupy my thinking ??) ::).

Goldie, the coconut oil is just oil. Use it for cooking or baking, in place of other food oils- unless you prefer to only use beneficial or diamond oils in cooking. You can also use it after your bath as a moisturizer when your skin is still damp.

It's not  going to have any magical healing properties for you personally, either topically or if you ingest it. It's neutral!!
Posted by: Goldie, Thursday, December 27, 2012, 9:03pm; Reply: 23
SO CORRECT! Neutrals, I hardley go near them.. There are only a few I like enough.

I am cooking dinner for a few tonight I would like to incorporate it some how.. a little to make the meat in it?  to give it a different flavor.  Add some pineapple, for extra flavor.. but one person is Diabetic 1 so will wait until they show up, and decide with his wife.

After this thread surfaced I started using coconut oil externally, just to see what it could do & I have to say I am impressed with what it has done for my skin ;) I bought the jar over a year ago to experiment with & had been too scared to try it till now!!
Also, as I was still unable to completely identify what was causing the problems with my skin,(& have it recover for a large enough length of time) I could neither really risk trying it out, nor be certain if it was doing any job (good or bad) ::) I tried it out on my feet first as I figured if it did bad things at least I could keep them covered...
