BTD Forums  /  Eat Right 4 Your Type  /  ASec/BSec: Immediate Reaction to Tomato Avoid

On another thread (about flax milk), the talk is re: tomatoes  ::).

Elsewhere there is positive/affirmative tomato-talk.

Here's a thread for those of you who experience immediate negative reactions to eating a piece of tomato (cooked or raw).

Tomato is listed as an Avoid for me, too, but when I actually ingest Tomato, I experience nothing evil or nefarious. It's just a part of the larger meal I'm eating. No immediate response to a tomato-inclusive dish that I've ever noticed. Apparently some people are intensely sensitive to them. It would be interesting if they could empirically quantify it.

Tell us exactly what negative effect the ingestion of tomato (raw? cooked?) has on your body, and how many seconds/minutes post-ingestion.

Tomatoes are an interesting food for me. When I eat tomatoes, it's almost always part of vegetable lasagna which contains lots of beneficial veggies, rice pasta (neutral), ricotta cheese (neutral, but way over my portion size for dairy when consumed this way), and mozzarella cheese (avoid.) It's delicious but a special holiday treat.

Anyway, my reaction: I feel good. REALLY good- it helps to energize me and reduce some of the muscle pain that's part of fibromyalgia. But the next day I notice that my joints start to hurt.

I'm showing Tomatoes as a neutral for all O's, according to Typebase.
But you're saying Tomatoes are an Avoid for you - I suppose SWAMI has ascertained this, due to your joint disease?
If Tomatoes aren't an Avoid for you, that's something else. I'm really soliciting answers, per the thread title, from those whom D'Adamo instructs to avoid tomatoes.
ruthiegirl: Please clarify Tomato's D'Adamo status for you.
Thanks.  ;)

San J,
My DD has an immediate reaction to tomato juice, seeds, etc...  She gets a rapidly building tension headache at the base of her head that spreads both up and down.  How much she ingests before realizing it's presence, makes the difference as to how bad the symptoms get.  She has said that sometimes she doesn't know whether it would be better to vomit or struggle through without vomiting.

I pretty much react the way Ruthie does. Any joint pain comes a day later.  If I eat a little bit of tomato now and then, like every couple of weeks, no big deal. Lots of garden fresh tomatoes with pesto on rice pasta leads to a food hangover.
eg: achy joints

My swami has tomatoes as a neutral, unless  I enter joint pain. Then tomatoes are an avoid.

Severe indigestion and heartburn occurs within five minutes of eating almost any form of tomatoes. It lasts for hours, to be followed by achy joints and swollen, aching hands. This reaction has slowly increased over time; I just consider them an avoid now.

So far: For an individual O (for whom tomatoes are Neutral on the BTD), they can be "Status: AVOID", if one is predisposed to arthritis.

The only A in the sample (and tomatoes are only an AVOID for her if she's a secretor) is the daughter of ABJoe, and she experiences an immediate headache with nausea.

I should really specifically ask for responses from Asecretors and Bsecretors, for whom Tomatoes are to be avoided on the BTD.

OK: I will. Be right back...

Just changed the title of the thread, adding "ASec/BSec:"  :)

She is A(-) Secretor, Explorer via SWAMI.

Thanks, ABJoe. Your daughter is the first "respondent".

Nothing against those beautiful O answers, above.
But I'm seeking examples of the immediate negative physical reactions to the ingestion of this particular item on the part of those for whom Dr. D'Adamo's blood type guidelines counsel avoidance.

Well I have really no reaction to tomatoes UNLESS i eat them with wheat ( black dot)
- then I get heartburns
But I eat tomatoes alone nada... ::)

In one of my earlier swami tomatoes was actually superfoods but then I filled some family history in and they became avoids again.

It is one of the avoids I eat fairly often :B- mainly in july-october.

I'm an A secretor and tomatoes are avoid for me. When I eat raw tomato, even one drop of the juice, I get the most horiffic aftertaste in my mouth that I can only imagine must be what roadkill tastes like. The taste will linger in my mouth for maybe 15-20 minutes. :X Cooked, however, I don't have as intense of a bad aftertaste, but will almost immediately experience stomach cramps followed by considerable bloating and gas lasting for several hours.
To me tomatoes are little morsels of evil, complete with fangs and horns(verymad)

I am an A+ secretor and my swami says tomatoes are an avoid.

I was 100% compliant for 3 months, during a "wash out" phase, then added foods back slowly to see reactions. I haven't been more than 95% compliant since.

Avoids/black dots I eat sometimes; tomatoes, tomato sauce, red peppers, yams, pears, peaches, apples, grapes I don't react to any of these foods. ??) At least not in any way I know of!!! ;)

Daily avoid; one cup black tea (added to my green tea)
